At Rinnoji, visit Sanbutsudo's large wooden hall and Taiyuin's mausoleum architecture and lanterns commemorating Tokugawa Iemitsu. Choose Sanbutsudo for the hall alone, or add Taiyuin to see the mausoleum.

Admission
Adult admission is JPY 400 for Sanbutsudo and JPY 550 for Taiyuin. The combined ticket costs JPY 900; the Treasure Hall and Shoyoen Garden cost extra.
Opening hours
Rinnoji opens from 8 am to 5 pm from April to October and from 8 am to 4 pm from November to March. Ordinary admission closes 30 minutes before closing. Combined Sanbutsudo and Taiyuin ticket sales finish earlier: 2.30 pm from April to October and 1.30 pm from November to March.

See the architecture and lanterns of Tokugawa Iemitsu's mausoleum at Taiyuin. It has a separate entrance from Sanbutsudo, so follow the temple map when visiting both.

How to get to Nikkosan Rinnoji
Take a Tobu bus from Nikko's stations to Nishisando-iriguchi, stop 9. Follow signs for the western and main approaches to Sanbutsudo. If visiting Taiyuin, use the official temple map to reach its separate entrance.

Before you visit
Dates when Sanbutsudo cannot be visited
Sanbutsudo is closed to visitors all day on 3 February and 2 April, from 11 am on 1 April, and in the morning on 14 December. Check official event notices if your visit falls on these dates.
Restricted access inside Taiyuin's worship hall
Events restrict access inside Taiyuin's worship hall at certain times on 18–20 April, 17 May and 14–15 July. This does not mean the whole temple is closed. Check separate notices for regular closures of the Treasure Hall and Shoyoen Garden.
Questions about Nikkosan Rinnoji
Can I visit only Sanbutsudo?
Yes. A separate ticket covers Sanbutsudo alone. Choose the combined ticket if visiting Taiyuin. Combined-ticket sales finish earlier than ordinary admission.
