Admission
Standard adult viewing inside the enclosure costs JPY 700. This differs from free worship in the grounds. Peony garden admission, prayer services and charms cost extra.
Opening hours
Free worship begins at 09:00, ending at 16:30 in October–February or 17:30 in March–September. Paid enclosure viewing begins at 09:30, ending at 16:00 or 17:00 respectively. Season, weather, events and temporary closure notices may change hours.

Gilded buildings and walls
Walk inside the enclosure to see gilded buildings and walls. Interiors are closed to visitors; you can view the buildings from outside.

How to get to Ueno Toshogu
Use JR Ueno station’s Park Exit and walk about ten minutes through Ueno Park to Toshogu.
Before you visit
Paid viewing ends before free worship
Free worship starts at 09:00; paid viewing starts at 09:30. Paid viewing ends at 16:00 in October–February or 17:00 in March–September. Free worship continues until 16:30 or 17:30 respectively. Arrive earlier to see inside the enclosure.
Also visiting the peony garden?
The peony garden is separate from enclosure viewing. Check opening and admission for your date. Standard admission also excludes prayer services and charms.

Does paid viewing include entering the buildings?
