Standard adult fenced-area admission is JPY 700, distinct from free worship in the grounds. Peony garden visits, prayers and charms cost extra.
Opening hours and closed days
Free worship starts at 09:00, closing at 16:30 from October to February or 17:30 from March to September. Paid fenced-area visits start at 09:30 and finish at 16:00 or 17:00 respectively. Seasons, weather, events and temporary closure notices may change hours.

How to get to Ueno Toshogu
Leave JR Ueno through the Park Exit and walk about 10 minutes to Toshogu inside the park.
Before you visit
Paid visits finish before free worship
Free worship begins at 09:00; paid fenced-area visits begin at 09:30. Paid visits finish at 16:00 from October to February or 17:00 from March to September. Free worship continues to 16:30 or 17:30 respectively. Arrive earlier for the fenced area.
If you want the peony garden too
The peony garden is separate from fenced-area admission. Check opening and fees for your date. Prayers and charms are also excluded from standard admission.

Does paid admission let you enter Toshogu’s buildings?
No. Interiors are closed. The paid area lets you see building exteriors and fences from within the enclosure. The peony garden is separate.
