Okaido stay for castle and baths

Stay one night near Okaido for the castle keep and next-day bathing. Visit them on separate days, returning to Okaido after the final-day bath before departure.

Day one: climb to Matsuyama Castle

Stay one night near Okaido, visiting the castle keep on day one and Dogo Onsen Honkan on day two.

  1. Matsuyama Airport or JR Matsuyama Station → Okaido tram stop

    For a JR arrival, take Dogo Onsen-bound city tram 5 from outside JR Matsuyama Station to Okaido. From the airport, collect luggage and choose a limousine stopping at Okaido. Some airport buses do not stop here; check your date's timetable. Arrival transport is excluded from the sightseeing subtotal.

  2. Okaido tram stop → Shinonomeguchi lower ropeway station

    Walk from Okaido tram stop to the Shinonomeguchi lower ropeway station, officially about five minutes.

  3. Shinonomeguchi lower ropeway station → Upper station and keep ticket office

    Buy an adult JPY 520 return ticket at the lower station and take the ropeway. From the upper station, walk through Honmaru to the keep ticket office. The operator's roughly 30-minute journey from lower-station Level 1 to the ticket office excludes keep-interior viewing.

  4. Keep ticket office → Matsuyama Castle keep

    Adult keep admission is JPY 520, separate from the return ropeway. Usual viewing hours are 09:00–17:00, with admission ending 30 minutes before closing. August and December–January hours differ; check your date's cutoff before entering.

  5. Matsuyama Castle keep → Lower ropeway station and Okaido shopping street

    After viewing, return to the upper boarding point and take the ropeway down. Walk towards Okaido for a meal or rest.

If a late arrival misses keep admission, eat in the city today. To move the castle to tomorrow, recalculate whether bathing and departure travel still fit; if not, omit one facility.

Day two: bathe at Dogo, return to Okaido and depart

  1. Okaido accommodation → Dogo Onsen Honkan

    Take Dogo Onsen-bound city tram 3 from Okaido to the terminus, then walk Haikara Street to Honkan. Kami-no-Yu bath-only admission is JPY 700 for adults, with 06:00–23:00 operation, reception until 22:30 and 60-minute use without reservations. Allow the station walk and on-site waits separately.

  2. Dogo Onsen Honkan → Okaido tram stop

    After bathing, return to Dogo Onsen Station and take Matsuyama City Station-bound tram 3 to Okaido. Eat or rest in the shopping street, then choose the airport or JR route below for your departure. For a morning departure, move bathing to another day.

Dogo stay and castle views

Stay one night in Dogo to rest nearby after bathing. Next day, see city views from the castle's Honmaru grounds. This course uses return ropeways without entering the keep.

Day one: bathe at Dogo Honkan

Stay one night near Dogo, bathing at Honkan before next-day Honmaru views. Keep-interior viewing is excluded; return ropeways are included.

    For JR arrival, take Dogo-bound city tram 5 from outside JR Matsuyama to Dogo Onsen Station. From the airport, check a limousine departing after your actual arrival and stopping at Dogo. Not every airport bus goes here. Arrival transport is excluded from sightseeing subtotals.

    Walk Haikara Street from Dogo Onsen Station to Honkan for bathing.

  3. Dogo Onsen Honkan → Dogo accommodation

    Honkan Kami-no-Yu bath-only admission is JPY 700 for adults, with 06:00–23:00 operation, reception until 22:30 and 60-minute use without advance reservations. Queues or temporary operating changes can delay bathing. Afterwards, eat at an open place on Haikara Street and return to Dogo accommodation. Its distance from Honkan depends on your address.

Day two: visit Honmaru from Okaido and return

  1. Dogo accommodation → Matsuyama Castle Honmaru grounds

    Take Matsuyama City Station-bound tram 3 from Dogo Onsen to Okaido. Walk about five minutes to Shinonomeguchi and buy an adult JPY 520 return ropeway ticket. From the upper station, continue on foot to Honmaru square. The operator's roughly 30-minute estimate covers the ropeway journey and walk from lower-station Level 1 to the keep ticket office; time at Honmaru is extra. Honmaru is free, and this course excludes the keep interior.

  2. Matsuyama Castle Honmaru grounds → Dogo Onsen Station

    Return from Honmaru to the upper boarding point and take the ropeway down. Walk to Okaido, take Dogo-bound tram 3 and alight at Dogo Onsen Station. Choose the airport or JR departure route below.

Questions before departure

Does Dogo accommodation include Honkan bathing?

Honkan is a separate public bathhouse. This course's Kami-no-Yu bath-only use costs JPY 700 for ages 12+, operates 06:00–23:00 with reception until 22:30 and allows 60 minutes. No advance reservations means reception queues are possible. Check admission separately from accommodation prices. Other lounge courses change fees. Facility conditions checked 9 October 2026.
