Stay one night near Okaido to see inside Matsuyama Castle's keep and bathe the next day. Visit the castle and hot springs on separate days, returning to Okaido after your bath before departure.

Day 1: Go up to Matsuyama Castle

Stay one night near Okaido. Visit Matsuyama Castle's keep on the first day and Dogo Onsen Honkan on the second.

  1. Matsuyama Airport or JR Matsuyama Station → Okaido stop

    If arriving by JR, take city tram 5 bound for Dogo Onsen from JR Matsuyama Station and get off at Okaido. From the airport, collect your bags and choose a limousine bus that stops at Okaido. Some airport departures skip Okaido, so check stops in your date's timetable. Arrival transportation is excluded from the sightseeing subtotal below.

  2. Okaido stop → Shinonomeguchi lower ropeway station

    Walk from the Okaido tram stop to Shinonomeguchi lower ropeway station. The official walking estimate is about five minutes.

  3. Shinonomeguchi lower ropeway station → Upper station and keep ticket counter

    Buy an adult round-trip ticket for ¥520 at the lower station and take the ropeway. From the upper station, walk through the main enclosure to the keep ticket counter. The operator's approximately 30-minute estimate from the lower station's first floor to the keep ticket counter excludes time inside the keep.

  4. Keep ticket counter → Matsuyama Castle keep

    Adult keep admission is ¥520, separate from the round-trip ropeway ticket. Regular visiting hours are 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with last admission 30 minutes before closing. Hours differ in August and December–January, so check your date's cutoff before entering.

  5. Matsuyama Castle keep → Lower ropeway station and Okaido shopping streets

    Return to the upper boarding area and take the ropeway down. Walk toward Okaido from the lower station for a meal or rest.

If you arrive too late for the keep's admission cutoff, have a meal in the city instead. Before moving the castle visit to the next day, recalculate time for bathing and departure travel. If both will not fit, leave out one attraction.

Day 2: Bathe at Dogo Onsen, then return to Okaido for departure

  1. Okaido hotel → Dogo Onsen Honkan

    At Okaido, take city tram 3 bound for Dogo Onsen. Get off at the last stop, Dogo Onsen Station, and walk along Haikara-dori to Honkan. Honkan's Kami-no-Yu bathing-only course costs ¥700 for adults, operates 6:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m., accepts entry until 10:30 p.m., and allows 60 minutes. Reservations are not accepted. Allow separate time for the station-to-bathhouse walk and on-site waiting.

  2. Dogo Onsen Honkan → Okaido stop

    After bathing, return to Dogo Onsen Station and take tram 3 toward Matsuyama City Station. Get off at Okaido for a meal or rest in the shopping streets. For departure, choose the airport or JR route below according to your destination. For a morning departure, move bathing to another day.

Stay one night in Dogo if you want to rest at a nearby hotel after bathing. The next day, enjoy city views from Matsuyama Castle's main enclosure. This itinerary uses the ropeway round trip without entering the keep.

Day 1: Bathe at Dogo Onsen Honkan

Stay one night near Dogo and bathe at Honkan, then enjoy views from the castle's main enclosure the next day. The ropeway round trip is included; visiting inside the keep is excluded.

  1. Matsuyama Airport or JR Matsuyama Station → Dogo Onsen Station stop

    If arriving by JR, take city tram 5 bound for Dogo Onsen from JR Matsuyama Station and get off at Dogo Onsen Station. From the airport, check that your chosen limousine bus leaves after you can realistically board and stops at Dogo Onsen Station. Not every airport departure serves this stop. Arrival-day transportation is excluded from the sightseeing subtotal.

  2. Dogo Onsen Station and Haikara-dori → Dogo Onsen Honkan

    From Dogo Onsen Station, walk along Haikara-dori to Honkan for a hot-spring bath.

  3. Dogo Onsen Honkan → Dogo hotel

    Honkan's Kami-no-Yu bathing-only course costs ¥700 for adults, operates 6:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m., accepts entry until 10:30 p.m., and allows 60 minutes. Advance reservations are not available. Waiting or temporary operating changes may delay your bath. Afterward, eat at an open restaurant on Haikara-dori and return to your Dogo hotel. The distance from Honkan depends on the hotel's address.

Day 2: Visit the castle's main enclosure via Okaido, then return

    From Dogo Onsen Station, take tram 3 toward Matsuyama City Station and get off at Okaido. Walk about five minutes to Shinonomeguchi ropeway station and buy an adult round-trip ticket for ¥520. Take the ropeway up, then walk to the main enclosure plaza. The operator's approximately 30-minute estimate covers ropeway travel and walking from the lower station's first floor to the keep ticket counter. Allow additional time in the main enclosure. Access to the enclosure is free; visiting inside the keep is excluded from this itinerary.

Does a Dogo hotel stay include bathing at Honkan?

Dogo Onsen Honkan is a public bathhouse separate from your hotel. This itinerary uses Kami-no-Yu bathing-only, ¥700 for ages 12 and older, operating 6:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m. with entry until 10:30 p.m. and a 60-minute visit. Advance reservations are not accepted, so reception waits may occur. Check Honkan admission separately from your hotel rate. Other courses with access to relaxation rooms cost different amounts.
