Day 1 · Kansui Park walk

Walk along the canal and waterside at Kansui Park, north of Toyama Station.

    Walk about nine minutes from Toyama Station's north exit to Kansui Park. Allow extra time to reach the station from your accommodation, move through the station and wait at crossings.

  2. Kansui Park waterside → Tenmon Bridge and observation towers

    Walk along the canal in the afternoon. Park admission and waterside walks are free, and the park itself is always open. Tenmon Bridge and its observation towers are landmarks, but the towers are open from 9 am to 9.30 pm, separately from the park. In good weather, spend time by the canal and bridge; shorten the walk in heavy rain or strong wind. Cruises, cafes and meals are outside this free walk.

    Return to the station's north exit in the evening, then go to your booked accommodation. The walk from the park to the station takes about nine minutes. Leave time for dinner and your station-to-hotel journey. Visit the museum exhibits the next morning; the first evening is for the park walk and a meal.

Day 2 · Museum collection, then depart Toyama

See the collection at the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design, then return to Toyama Station.

  1. Toyama Station, north exit → Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design

    Walk from the station's north exit to the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design. The museum's official access guide gives about 15 minutes. To arrive for the 9.30 am opening, leave your hotel early enough for that walk plus station walking and crossings. Museum-bound buses also leave from north-side stand 1; get off at the museum stop. If taking a bus, check its fare, waits and walk from the stop separately from the 15-minute walking estimate.

  2. Museum entrance → Collection exhibition

    See the collection after opening. Usual hours are 9.30 am–6 pm, with last admission at 5.30 pm; standard adult collection admission is JPY 350. This plan allows about two hours, depending on exhibition changes and your pace. Special exhibitions cost extra. Entry to the building is free, but the collection exhibition is paid. Check opening or weather conditions separately for lunch or the rooftop.

Day 2 · Zuiryuji Temple and Amaharashi Coast

Visit Zuiryuji Temple, then travel to Amaharashi Coast.

  1. Toyama Station → Takaoka Station south side, then Zuiryuji Temple

    Take a westbound ordinary Ainokaze Toyama Railway train from Toyama and get off at Takaoka. This differs from Shin-Takaoka Shinkansen station. The adult single fare is JPY 390. Leave on Takaoka Station's south side and walk about 10 minutes to Zuiryuji Temple.

  2. Zuiryuji Temple → Takaoka Station and JR tickets

    Visit the temple from 9 am, then return towards the station. Standard adult admission to Zuiryuji is JPY 500. Allow time for an early lunch and buying JR tickets. Before the visit, check both return rail sections so you can continue to the coast afterwards.

  3. Takaoka Station, JR Himi Line → Amaharashi Station, then the coast

    Take a JR Himi Line train towards Himi from Takaoka and get off at Amaharashi. The adult single fare is JPY 240; walk about five minutes to the coast. Mountain views depend on the weather. Choose your return Takaoka-bound train first and leave time to walk back to the station.

  4. Amaharashi Station → Takaoka Station

    Return from the coast to Amaharashi Station and take a JR Himi Line train to Takaoka. Check travel-day timetables and suspension notices. Choose both return sections, as you will change at Takaoka to Ainokaze Toyama Railway for Toyama.

  5. Takaoka Station → Toyama Station

    Change at Takaoka to an eastbound ordinary Ainokaze Toyama Railway train towards Toyama. The adult single fare is JPY 390. Leave time after the JR Himi Line to buy an Ainokaze ticket and reach the platform. If delayed, check station information for the next Toyama-bound train.

Frequently asked questions

Can I return from Amaharashi and leave Toyama immediately on day two?

Yes, if both return rail sections connect with your Toyama departure and leave enough time to move through the station. Take the JR Himi Line from Amaharashi to Takaoka, then Ainokaze to Toyama. Check long-distance train or airport travel times separately against your actual departure.
