The roughly 600 m historic street is free to walk. The preservation centre (八日市・護国町並保存センター) is also free to enter. Shopping, house or museum admission and paid guides cost extra, with individual prices.
Opening hours
The historic streets are public roads with no separately listed business hours. The preservation centre opens 09:00–16:30 and closes Tuesdays, public holidays and during the year-end holidays. Shops, houses and museums have individual opening and closing days; check the places you want to visit.

Take a train via Uchiko from JR Matsuyama Station and get off at Uchiko. The historic area’s southern entrance is roughly 1 km or a 15-minute walk away. Trains to Ozu via Iyo-Nagahama skip Uchiko; check stops and the tickets required for your train category.

How much time should I allow for Uchiko’s historic streets?
The tourism association suggests 1–2 hours for the streets and area around Uchiko-za, or about 3 hours with a café stop or lunch. The southern entrance is about a 15-minute walk from Uchiko Station. Allow separate time for both station walks and train waits. Uchiko-za’s main interior is closed for construction.
