Visit Hokkaido University Botanical Gardens for a walk among trees and flowers in central Sapporo. Alpine plants, lilacs and autumn colours give it different seasonal views.
Close to JR Sapporo Station, it can be combined with city sightseeing. Visit on a spring-to-autumn opening day for the outdoor garden.

Admission
During the outdoor opening season: ages 16 and older JPY 420; ages 7–15 JPY 300; ages 6 and younger free.
Opening hours
29 April–30 September: 09:00–16:30, admission until 16:00. 1 October–3 November: 09:00–16:00, admission until 15:30. Closed Mondays, or the following day when Monday is a public holiday. See the notes below for winter garden and glasshouse access.

How to get to Hokkaido University Botanical Gardens
Leave JR Sapporo Station through the south exit and walk to the main gate, about 10 minutes away. Enter there during the outdoor garden’s opening season.
Visiting tips
The outdoor garden closes in winter
The outdoor garden closes from 4 November to 28 April. Existing facility information also lists the glasshouse as closed to the public. Check reopening before planning it as a winter alternative.
Questions about Hokkaido University Botanical Gardens
Are the university campus and botanical garden the same place?
No. The garden is a separate paid facility from the campus. Use the garden’s main gate for outdoor visits.
