Visitor information
Admission
Individual admission is JPY 1,600 for adults and high school students and JPY 550 for elementary and junior high school students. These rates apply to parties of 1–34. The ticket including the museum is a separate option.
Opening hours
Open 09:00–17:00 from April 1 through October 31 and 09:00–16:00 from November 1 through March 31. Admission closes 30 minutes before closing time.
What to see at Nikko Toshogu Shrine
Yomeimon Gate and animal carvings
Look for Yomeimon Gate’s elaborate decoration and the Three Wise Monkeys and Sleeping Cat carvings in the grounds. Alongside the buildings, take time to notice the smaller carvings.
How to get to Nikko Toshogu Shrine
Take a Tobu bus from JR Nikko or Tobu Nikko Station and get off at Nishisando Iriguchi. Follow signs towards Omotesando to Toshogu’s entrance. The operator’s detour map gives a walk of about 10 minutes from the stop; admission queues take extra time.
Visiting tips
Expect stairs within the grounds
Walk from the bus stop to the entrance, then climb stairs during your visit. If arriving late in the afternoon, allow for the approach walk and seasonal admission cutoff. Check the official notices for temporary closures or events on your visit date.

No. Toshogu and Rinnoji have separate admission tickets. Toshogu’s shrine ticket and museum combination ticket are also different, so choose according to the facilities you want to visit.
