Admission

Fares for junior high school students and older are JPY 500 one way or JPY 700 return. Elementary school children and younger pay JPY 250 one way or JPY 350 return. One preschool child per accompanying guardian travels free.

Opening hours

Regular services run every 15 minutes from 09:00 to 17:15. There is no regular closing day, but bad weather or maintenance may suspend services. Extended hours for events apply only on the stated dates.

What to see at Senkoji Ropeway

Onomichi from the hilltop

Look out over the sea and islands from the hilltop. Ride the ropeway up, enjoy the views, then walk down the steps or take the ropeway back.

How to get to Senkoji Ropeway

Walk about 15 minutes from JR Onomichi Station to Sanroku Station, the lower ropeway station. The ride to the summit takes about 3 minutes. For a bus alternative, take an eastbound bus to Nagaeguchi (長江口). This is a different route from buses starting at Shin-Onomichi Station.

Visiting tips

Avoiding the steps downhill

Choose a return ticket if the steps downhill would be difficult. You will still walk around the summit after taking the ropeway. Services may stop for bad weather or maintenance, so check the operator's notices for your visit day.

Getting the JR pass discount on a return ticket

A JR-WEST RAIL PASS holder who presents their own pass before purchase can buy an adult return ticket for JPY 630. The regular return fare is JPY 700; showing the pass after purchase does not qualify for the discount. The pass does not provide free ropeway travel.
