At Oya History Museum, descend into the vast underground spaces left by stone quarrying. Walk through them to appreciate their scale. It is cooler underground than outside, so bring a light layer even in summer.

Admission
From April 2026, individual admission is JPY 1,000 for adults and JPY 400 for elementary and junior high school students. Preschool children enter free. Payment is cash only.
Opening hours
Open 09:00–17:00 from April through November, with last admission at 16:30. From December through March, open 09:30–16:30, with last admission at 16:00.

Underground spaces left by stone quarrying
The large underground quarry is Oya History Museum’s main attraction. Descend the stairs and explore the spaces left by stone extraction to appreciate their scale.
How to get to Oya History Museum
Take an Oya–Tateiwa-bound bus from bay 6 outside JR Utsunomiya Station’s west exit. The ride to Shiryokan Iriguchi takes about 30 minutes, followed by a walk of about five minutes to the museum. Return from the station-bound side of Shiryokan Iriguchi on a bus to Utsunomiya Station.
Visiting tips
Stairs and mobility assistance
Wheelchairs, strollers and walkers cannot be used for ordinary admission. Paid golf-cart assistance requires an advance reservation on an available weekday; same-day requests are not accepted. Long holidays or group use can limit availability, so contact the facility.
Winter Tuesday and New Year closures
Closed Tuesdays from December through March, or the following day if Tuesday is a public holiday. Also closed December 26–January 3. Temporary closures or operating changes are possible.

Can I enter Oya History Museum with a stroller or wheelchair?
Strollers, wheelchairs and walkers cannot be used for ordinary admission. If you need mobility assistance, ask the facility about available dates and advance booking conditions for the paid golf cart. Same-day requests are not accepted.
