At Rinnoji, visit Sanbutsudo’s large wooden hall and see the architecture and lanterns of Tokugawa Iemitsu’s mausoleum at Taiyuin. Choose Sanbutsudo for the hall alone, or add Taiyuin for the mausoleum architecture.

Admission
Adult admission is JPY 400 for Sanbutsudo and JPY 550 for Taiyuin. The two-site combination ticket costs JPY 900. The treasure hall and Shoyoen Garden cost extra.
Opening hours
Open 08:00–17:00 from April through October and 08:00–16:00 from November through March. General admission closes 30 minutes before closing. Sanbutsudo–Taiyuin combination-ticket sales end earlier: at 14:30 from April through October and 13:30 from November through March.

See the architecture and lanterns of Tokugawa Iemitsu’s mausoleum at Taiyuin. Its entrance differs from Sanbutsudo’s; follow the temple map when visiting both.

How to get to Nikkozan Rinnoji Temple
Take a Tobu bus from Nikko’s stations and get off at Nishisando Iriguchi, stop 9. Follow signs for Nishisando and Omotesando to Sanbutsudo. For Taiyuin too, use the official temple map to reach its separate entrance.

Visiting tips
Dates when Sanbutsudo cannot be visited
Sanbutsudo is closed to visitors all day on February 3 and April 2, from 11:00 on April 1, and during the morning on December 14. Check official event notices if your visit falls on one of these dates.
Restricted access inside Taiyuin’s worship hall
Events restrict entry inside Taiyuin’s worship hall at certain times on April 18–20, May 17 and July 14–15. This does not mean the whole temple is closed. Check separate notices for regular closures of the treasure hall and Shoyoen Garden.
Questions about Nikkozan Rinnoji Temple
Can I visit just Sanbutsudo?
Yes. There is a ticket for Sanbutsudo alone. To visit Taiyuin too, choose the two-site combination ticket. Combination-ticket sales end earlier than general admission sales.
