Visitor information
Admission
General adult admission inside the wall is ¥700. This differs from free shrine access in the grounds. The peony garden, prayer services and amulets cost extra.
Opening hours
Free shrine access starts at 09:00 and closes at 16:30 from October to February or 17:30 from March to September. Paid viewing inside the wall starts at 09:30 and ends at 16:00 from October to February or 17:00 from March to September. Seasonal, weather, event and temporary closure notices may change hours.

Walk inside the wall to view the gold-covered building and surrounding wall. The interior is closed to visitors; this visit views the exterior.

How to get to Ueno Toshogu
Leave JR Ueno Station through the Park Exit. Toshogu is about 10 minutes away on foot within Ueno Park.
Visiting tips
Paid viewing ends before free shrine access
Free shrine access begins at 09:00 and paid viewing inside the wall at 09:30. Paid viewing ends at 16:00 from October to February and 17:00 from March to September. Free access continues until 16:30 and 17:30 respectively, so arrive earlier to see inside the wall.
If you also want to see the peony garden
The peony garden is separate from viewing inside the wall. Check opening status and admission for your date. Prayer services and amulets are also excluded from general admission.
