What to see at Ueno Zoo
Walk the East and West Gardens to see the animals
Animal exhibits are divided between the East and West Gardens. Start with the area containing your preferred animals, and leave time to move between gardens and rest if visiting both.
How to get to Ueno Zoo
Leave JR Ueno Station through the Park Exit. The zoo's main gate is about 5 minutes away on foot.
Visiting tips
Entry closes at 16:00
The zoo closes at 17:00, but ticket sales and entry end at 16:00. Arrive with enough time for the exhibits you want rather than just before last admission.
Monday and year-end closures
Normally closed Mondays, or the following day when Monday is a public or substitute holiday. Also closed 29 December–1 January. Some Mondays are calendar exceptions, so check whether the zoo opens on your visit date.
