Opening hours

Usual hours are 09:00–16:30. Closed on the first and third Mondays each month, or the following day when a public holiday, and December 29–January 3. A notice extended opening to 18:30 on August 4–14, 2026. Those extended hours apply only to that period.

What to see at Bunshokan

Staircase stained glass and auditorium ceiling

The landing’s stained glass features laurel decoration. Restored plasterwork on the auditorium ceiling depicts local products such as safflowers and cherries; look up to find the patterns.

How to get to Bunshokan

Walk about 30 minutes from Yamagata Station to Bunshokan’s main entrance. For a bus, use an ordinary service via city hall and get off at Shiyakusho-mae. Walk about one minute from the stop to Bunshokan.
