Traditional Yokagura takes place at each village's kagura-yado, announced for that year's host. Takachiho Shrine is only a map reference point for the region; its tourist performance is separate.
The directions below use one representative location, not every venue entrance or the complete procession route. Use the official venue map for your ticket or programme.
Getting there by train or bus
Take a bus towards Takachiho from Kumamoto or Nobeoka. Arrange the onward journey from the bus centre and the late-night return for the actual village venue.
Planning your visit
Choose a village’s published offering date before arranging transport. The Takachiho Shrine map point does not identify every overnight ritual location.
This is an editorial travel suggestion, not a claim of a personal visit or a guarantee of the programme. When travelling from Canada, use your Japan arrival date to select the festival day.
