Admission

Ordinary worship in the grounds needs no admission ticket. Meiji Jingu's garden and museum each charge separately at 500 yen.

Opening hours

The grounds open year-round, with monthly gate hours following sunrise and sunset. October hours are 05:40–16:40. Internal facilities such as garden and museum may keep shorter hours; check separately.

What to see at Meiji Jingu

Walk through the woods to worship

Use the Harajuku-side southern entrance and walk to the main sanctuary. The station is close to the entrance, but the sanctuary requires further walking within the grounds. Allow time for the wooded return walk and worship.

How to get to Meiji Jingu

Go to the southern entrance from JR Harajuku or Meiji-jingumae exit 2, about 1 minute from the station. Then walk at least about 10 minutes more to the main sanctuary.

Questions about Meiji Jingu

How long is the walk from Harajuku Station to the main sanctuary?

Allow about 1 minute to walk from the station to the southern entrance, then at least about 10 minutes more to the sanctuary. From Meiji-jingumae subway station, use exit 2 for the southern entrance.
