5 days in Fukuoka: separate days for the aquarium and Dazaifu

This itinerary assumes international arrival, 4 nights near Hakata Station and an afternoon or later departure on day 5. Allow a day for city walks, then visit Uminonakamichi by JR and Dazaifu by Nishitetsu on separate days. Dazaifu is outside Fukuoka City. If you stay in Tenjin, check the morning departure station and evening return route against your hotel address.

Day 1 · International arrivals → Hakata → old town

  1. International terminal → Hakata Station

Take the free shuttle from international-terminal floor 1, stop 5, to the south side of the domestic terminal. Use entrances 1A or 1B for the Airport Line to Hakata. The airport's approximate 10-minute shuttle ride and two subway stops exclude immigration, baggage collection and shuttle waits.

Leave your luggage at the hotel, then walk around Kushida Shrine or have dinner near Hakata Station. Avoid travelling far if you arrive late. You will use JR on day 3, so also check the walk from your hotel to Hakata's JR gates.

It closes on Mondays and at year-end; when Monday is a public holiday, it closes the next day. Check the calendar for your visit. Day 5 · Prepare to leave Hakata

  1. Hakata Station → International terminal

Travel from Hakata on the Airport Line to Fukuoka Airport Station, then take the free shuttle from domestic-terminal stop 1 to the international terminal. Do not plan your departure around the two subway stops alone: add time to reach the station gates, wait for the shuttle, check in and clear security.

Airport: official boarding-point mapStandard subway fares

Start with your airline's check-in deadline and the time you need to reach the international terminal. Have lunch or shop near the station only if you have allowed for the Airport Line, the free shuttle from domestic stop 1 and international departure procedures. For a morning flight, go straight to the airport. Do not add Dazaifu or Marine World to departure day.

Subtotal for the items listed below: 3,010 yen (adult admission only)

Included: Science Museum Basic Exhibition: 510 yen; Marine World: 2,500 yen

Costs not included: Subway, bus, JR and Nishitetsu fares; accommodation, meals, flights and shopping; and optional paid visits such as the planetarium, special exhibitions and museums. Remove the admission charge for any attraction you skip.

If you also want Momochi, do not squeeze it into the same day as the aquarium or Dazaifu. If the coast matters more, replace Dazaifu on day 4 with the Momochi route in the 4-day itinerary. If you prefer the observation deck to the aquarium, replace Marine World on day 3 with Momochi. Either way, swap a destination rather than add another day's activities. With the Science Museum Basic Exhibition and Marine World, adult admission is 510 yen + 2,500 yen = 3,010 yen. Dazaifu Tenmangu's grounds are free. Replacing Marine World with Fukuoka Tower's observation deck gives an adult admission subtotal of 1,510 yen for the two paid attractions. Neither subtotal includes subway, JR or Nishitetsu fares, museum admission, flights, accommodation, meals or shopping.

What time should you take the trains and buses? Departure times can vary by travel date. Search for JR and Nishitetsu departures, transfers, last trains, Momochi buses and fares for your date. Recheck attraction admission before your visit.
