A first visit to Fukuoka in 3 days

This itinerary assumes arrival at Fukuoka Airport's international terminal, 2 nights near Hakata Station and departure in the afternoon or later on day 3. Adjust the order if you have an early flight or stay in Tenjin. Morning and afternoon headings show the order of travel, not train departure times.

Day 1 · Airport → Hakata → old town

  1. International terminal → Domestic terminal

Complete immigration on international-terminal floor 2, collect your luggage on floor 1 and clear customs. Go to free-shuttle stop 5 outside arrivals. Get off at the south side of the domestic terminal and use subway entrances 1A or 1B. The shuttle ride takes about 10 minutes; waiting and walking are extra.

  2. Airport station → Hakata hotel

Hakata is two stops away on the Airport Line. Leave your luggage at your hotel; ask in advance about storage before check-in. Use the hotel address to find the nearest Hakata Station exit.

  3. Hakata hotel → Old town or Tenjin

If you arrive late, keep dinner near Hakata Station. If you have more time, choose either the area around Kushida Shrine or Tenjin. The Hakata Station camera shows the street outside; use station and operator information for train services.

Fukuoka City tourism: Kushida Shrine Station

Day 2 · Park walk and city exhibitions

  1. Hakata Station → Ohori Park

Take the Airport Line from Hakata to Ohori-koen Station and walk to the park. The lakeside path is about 2km; you can walk only part of it. Check opening arrangements and admission separately if you also want to visit the Japanese garden.

  2. Ohori Park → Science Museum in Ropponmatsu

Have lunch around Ohori, then head to Ropponmatsu. Your restaurant location will determine the bus stop or walking route. The Science Museum is near Ropponmatsu Station exit 3. Adult admission to the fifth-floor Basic Exhibition is 510 yen; check Tuesday closures before leaving.

  3. Ropponmatsu Station → Tenjin or your Hakata hotel

After the museum, take the Nanakuma Line from Ropponmatsu towards Tenjin-minami or Hakata. If you plan to visit a yatai in Tenjin, leave large luggage at the hotel and check each stall's location and payment methods.

If the museum is closed, spend longer in either Ohori Park or Momochi. With children, you could switch day 2 to the Marine World itinerary. If long walks are difficult, skip the full park circuit and check the walks between your hotel, stations, stops and attractions.

Day 3 · Finish in Hakata before your flight

  1. Hakata hotel → Meal or walk near the station

If time allows, eat near Hakata Station or take a short old-town walk. A return trip to Momochi or Uminonakamichi can leave too little time for the airport. Marine World requires a JR transfer at Kashii, so visit on a different day.

  2. Hakata Station → International terminal

Take the Airport Line from Hakata to Fukuoka Airport Station, then the free shuttle from domestic-terminal stop 1 to the international terminal. Allow separately for collecting luggage, walking to the station, shuttle waits, airline check-in and security.

For a morning flight, go straight to the airport. Fit in a meal or short walk near the station only after allowing for the Airport Line, travel and waiting for the free shuttle from domestic stop 1, and international departure procedures before your airline's check-in deadline.

Take the free shuttle from international arrivals stop 5 to the south side of the domestic terminal. Use entrances 1A or 1B and take the Airport Line two stops to Hakata. Immigration and shuttle waits are additional to the train ride.

Admission and hours

How much should I budget for admission on a 3-day Fukuoka trip?

Admission depends on which of the three routes you choose. Adult admission is 510 yen for the Science Museum, 2,500 yen for Marine World or 1,000 yen for the Fukuoka Tower observation deck. Transport, flights, accommodation and meals are extra.

Is the subway one-day pass cheaper?

The adult one-day pass costs 640 yen; single tickets cost 210–380 yen by journey. Assuming only the shortest 210-yen fare, three rides cost 630 yen, which is 10 yen less than the pass. Frequently asked questions

How much travel time should I allow for Marine World on a 3-day Fukuoka trip?

The JR ride from Hakata to Kashii takes about 11 minutes, followed by about 20 minutes on the Kashii Line to Uminonakamichi and a roughly 5-minute walk to Marine World. These are train-riding and station-to-aquarium walking times; transfers and waits are extra. In the aquarium itinerary, visit on day 2 and check your return train.

Marine World: official access map for 2026

Can I use the subway one-day pass to reach Marine World?

No. This route uses JR from Hakata with a transfer at Kashii, so the subway one-day pass is not valid. Budget separately for return JR fares.

One-day passMarine World: official access map for 2026
