Five days in Fukuoka: separate days for the aquarium and Dazaifu

This itinerary assumes international arrival, four nights near Hakata Station and departure on the afternoon of day 5 or later. Spend a day on city walks, with separate days for Uminonakamichi by JR and Dazaifu by Nishitetsu. Dazaifu is outside Fukuoka City. If you stay in Tenjin, use your hotel’s address to check your starting station each morning and your route back each evening.

Day 1 · International arrival → Hakata → old town

  1. Airport international terminal → Hakata Station

Take the free shuttle from stop 5 on the international terminal’s 1st floor to the south side of the domestic terminal. Use subway entrance 1A or 1B and take the Airport Line to Hakata. The airport’s roughly 10-minute shuttle ride and two subway stops exclude immigration, baggage collection and waiting for the shuttle.

Day 5 · Prepare for departure in Hakata

  1. Hakata Station → Airport international terminal

Follow this route: Airport Line from Hakata → Fukuoka Airport Station → free shuttle from domestic terminal stop 1 → international terminal. Allow for reaching the station and ticket gates, waiting for the shuttle, check-in and security, rather than planning around just two subway stops.

Official airport boarding-stop mapStandard subway fares

Decide when you need to reach the international terminal based on your airline’s check-in deadline. Have lunch or shop near the station only if there is enough time for the Airport Line, the free shuttle from domestic stop 1 and international departure formalities. Go straight to the airport for a morning flight. Do not add Dazaifu or Marine World to departure day.

Subtotal for the items listed below: JPY 3,010 for adult admission only

Included items: Science Museum standard exhibition: JPY 510; Marine World: JPY 2,500

Costs excluded from the subtotal: Subway, bus, JR and Nishitetsu fares; accommodation, meals, flights and shopping; and optional paid visits such as planetarium shows, special exhibitions and museums. Remove an attraction’s admission fee if you skip it.

To include Momochi, replace another day’s destination rather than combining it with the aquarium or Dazaifu. If the coast is your priority, replace Dazaifu on day 4 with the Momochi route from the four-day itinerary. If you prefer the observation deck to the aquarium, you can replace Marine World on day 3 instead. Neither option adds a day. In this itinerary, the standard Science Museum exhibition costs JPY 510 and Marine World JPY 2,500 for an adult, totalling JPY 3,010. Dazaifu Tenmangu’s grounds are free. If you replace Marine World with Fukuoka Tower’s observation deck, the two paid admissions total JPY 1,510. Neither subtotal includes subway, JR or Nishitetsu fares, museum admission, flights, accommodation, meals or shopping.

Which train or bus should I take? Departure times can vary by travel date. Search for the date of your trip to confirm JR and Nishitetsu departures, transfers, last trains, Momochi buses and fares. Recheck attraction admission before visiting.
