Two days in Fukuoka: which route should I choose?

With limited time between arrival and departure, choose one route: Hakata and Tenjin, Ohori Park and the Science Museum, or Momochi and the tower. These plans assume one night near Hakata Station and a late-afternoon departure on day 2.

After arriving at the international terminal, take the free shuttle to the domestic terminal and the Airport Line to Hakata. Leave your bags at your hotel before deciding how much time you have to go out for dinner.

Sightseeing and airport travel on departure day

How much sightseeing can I do on departure day?

Start with your airline’s recommended arrival time at the international terminal and its check-in deadline. For a morning flight, skip sightseeing. Even for a late-afternoon flight, you need time for the attraction’s return journey and collecting your bags at the hotel.

From Hakata, take the Airport Line towards Fukuoka Airport and get off at the final stop. The airport station connects to the domestic terminal. Use the ticket gate marked for the international connection bus and follow entrances 1A or 2A up to the 1st floor. Take the free international shuttle from domestic stop 1. Allow separate time for waiting, the ride and walking to the airline counters on the international terminal’s 3rd floor. With a wheelchair or pushchair, check the route via the ticket gate marked for the domestic terminal and the south-side lift.

The two-day Science Museum and Momochi routes return to your Hakata hotel after sightseeing on day 2. Confirm post-checkout luggage storage and collection times with your hotel, and reduce sightseeing if departure formalities would be tight. The aquarium is scheduled mid-trip in itineraries of at least two nights; keep it on a separate day rather than moving it to departure day.

Can I add a park or beach walk on the last day?

To add a park or beach, reduce other sightseeing in the main itinerary and work from your flight time first. Do not add a walk before a morning departure.

For Ohori Park, take the Airport Line towards Meinohama from Hakata or Tenjin, get off at Ohori-koen and follow the park map. For Momochi, follow the tower’s official walking route from Nishijin Station and return the same way afterwards. Check the walk from the station to the beach and any local access restrictions separately.

If there is not enough time to collect your bags and complete the Airport Line journey, international shuttle connection and airline formalities, move the walk to the previous day. A beach-only walk does not add another tower observation deck charge.
