Which Fukuoka attractions should I visit?

Kushida Shrine
櫛田神社
Stop at Kushida Shrine if you want to explore Hakata’s festival culture during an old-town walk. The shrine is associated with Hakata Gion Yamakasa, and you can see a large ginkgo tree in the grounds. Nearby restaurants and shops keep different hours from the shrine.

Ohori Park

Visit Ohori Park for a leisurely walk around the lake. The Japanese garden and art museum have their own admission fees and opening hours, unlike the park paths.

Fukuoka City Science Museum

The Science Museum offers indoor exhibitions on a rainy day. Entry to the building is free, but the standard exhibition hall and planetarium each require a ticket.
- AdmissionAdmission to the standard exhibition on the 5th floor costs JPY 510 for adults, JPY 310 for senior high school pupils and JPY 200 for primary and junior high school pupils. The planetarium and special exhibitions cost extra.
- Opening hoursThe building opens 09:30–21:30. The standard exhibition on the 5th floor opens 09:30–18:00, with last admission at 17:30. It closes on Tuesdays and 28 December–1 January. If Tuesday is a public holiday, it opens and closes on the next weekday instead. During school holidays it opens daily except over New Year. Also check the closure calendar for your visit.
- Getting thereGet off at Ropponmatsu Station on the subway Nanakuma Line and walk to the museum. Ask about tickets for your chosen exhibition at the information and ticket counter on the 3rd floor.
Fukuoka Tower

Fukuoka Tower’s observation deck overlooks Momochi Beach and Hakata Bay. You can choose a beach walk, a paid deck visit, or both.
- AdmissionStandard admission to the observation deck costs JPY 1,000 for adults and senior high school pupils, JPY 500 for primary and junior high school pupils and JPY 200 for preschool children aged 4 and above.
- Opening hoursOpen 09:30–22:00, with last admission at 21:30. Admission may close earlier on busy days. The tower is closed on 28–29 June 2027; check the official notice for your visit date.
- Getting thereYou can take a bus from Hakata or Tenjin. Boarding stops and routes can vary by date, so use Nishitetsu’s search to find a bus that stops at Fukuoka Tower Minami.
Momochi Beach
Momochi Seaside Parkシーサイドももち海浜公園
Momochi Beach is north of Fukuoka Tower. After exploring the city, walk along the shore or take a break by the water. A beach walk has different costs and opening arrangements from Marizon’s shops and activities.

- Opening hoursThe official tourism page does not give opening hours for the beach as a whole. Check individual hours for nearby shops or water activities.
- Getting thereThe official tourism guide suggests getting off a Nishitetsu bus at Fukuoka Tower Minami. Walk from there towards the beach north of the tower.
Marine World Uminonakamichi
マリンワールド海の中道
At Marine World, you can explore marine life with children. Leave enough time to watch the animals in the tanks. With the JR transfer and time needed for a visit, a day in the middle of your trip is more relaxed than departure day. Nearby Uminonakamichi Seaside Park has its own admission charge.
- AdmissionIndividual admission costs JPY 2,500 for adults, JPY 1,200 for primary and junior high school pupils and JPY 700 for preschool children aged 3 and above. Transport is extra.
- Opening hoursUsually open 09:30–17:30, or 10:00–17:00 from December to February. Hours are extended on specified Golden Week and summer dates. Last admission is one hour before closing. Closed on 18–21 January 2027. Show-pool works suspend sea lion and dolphin shows and close the seating area from 12 January to 9 April 2027. This period includes contingency days for the works, so check the reopening notice before visiting.
- Getting thereTake JR from Hakata, change to the Kashii Line at Kashii and get off at Uminonakamichi. The subway one-day pass does not cover JR services.

Dazaifu Tenmangu
Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine太宰府天満宮
Dazaifu Tenmangu is a shrine to the deity of learning. Explore the grounds and their large trees, and walk from the station along the shop-lined shrine approach. It is outside Fukuoka City, so allow at least half a day for the return journey and visit.
- AdmissionWorship in the grounds and main hall is free. Museums in the grounds and nearby facilities have separate charges.
- Opening hoursThe gates open at 06:00 or 06:30, depending on the season. Closing time is 18:30 from December to March, 19:30 from June to August and 19:00 in other months. Last admission to the shrine’s museums is 16:00.
- Getting thereTake the subway from Hakata to Tenjin, then walk to Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station. Check whether your Dazaifu train runs directly or requires a transfer at Futsukaichi. From Dazaifu Station, follow the shrine approach to the shrine.
