Day 1: Takayama Station → Jinya → city streets
- Takayama Station → Jinya
Leave Takayama Station around noon, have lunch and walk to the Jinya. The official station-to-Jinya walk takes about 10 minutes. Visit inside first, then walk around Nakabashi and the city streets. April–October last admission is 16:30 and closing 17:00; November–March last admission is 16:00 and closing 16:30. Choose arrival transport that leaves time for the interior.
- Jinya → Travel to the station and hotel
In rain, shorten outdoor walks and focus on the Jinya. Eat dinner in the city, then go to your hotel near the station.
Pay admission and remove your shoes to visit the Jinya interior. Check last admission and temporary closures for your date, then follow walking guidance towards the old town or station afterwards.
Day 2: east side of Takayama Station → Takayama Museum of History and Art → station
Finish with free exhibitions at Takayama Museum of History and Art, then return to the station. Check that you can catch your train or bus after visiting and lunch.
- East side of Takayama Station → Takayama Museum of History and Art
From Takayama Station’s east exit, follow Chuo-dori to the town museum. The city’s official walking time is about 20 minutes. Explore exhibition rooms in 14 former storehouses in the morning to learn about Takayama Festival, machiya houses and castle-town history. After yesterday’s government buildings, today focuses on town life and culture.

- Town museum exhibition rooms → Exhibitions and garden
Exhibition rooms open 09:00–19:00 and the garden opens 07:00–21:00; admission is free. There are no regular closing days, but check temporary closure notices. In rain, shorten street walks and focus on exhibitions. Arriving during the earlier garden hours does not allow exhibition entry before 09:00.

- Takayama Museum of History and Art → Takayama Station and departure preparation
After visiting, retrace Chuo-dori towards the east exit and have lunch in the city. The walk from the museum takes about 20 minutes. Allow separate time for sightseeing, meals and reaching the boarding area before an afternoon train or bus. Do not add a Shirakawa-go return trip today. An early-morning departure leaves no time for the museum.
The town museum is a separate free exhibition facility from the Jinya. Check the Chuo-dori walking route from the station’s east side and temporary closures. Choose a departure that lets you reach the boarding area after sightseeing.
Included: Jinya individual adult admission 500 yen; town museum free.
Extra costs and conditions: One night’s Takayama accommodation, meals, luggage storage, arrival and departure transport from outside the prefecture, and separate activities.
Based on general adult admission and the selected ticket types, checked 8 October 2026. This is not a whole-trip budget including accommodation and meals.
Hida Folk Village and Jinya
Stay one night in Takayama to visit traditional houses and former government buildings on separate days. Visit Hida Folk Village first, then the Jinya. Choose arrival transport that leaves time for daylight sightseeing and the return bus on day one.
Day 1: Nohi Bus Center stand 1 → Hida Folk Village → Takayama
- Takayama Station and Nohi Bus Center stand 1 → Hida-no-Sato stop and entrance access
At Nohi Bus Center east of the station, check how to buy or exchange the Hida Folk Village combined ticket. Take the Sarubobo Bus from stand 1 to Hida-no-Sato. Choose your return departure before leaving. Follow entrance signs from the stop to the ticket office; walking and ticket queues are additional to bus ride time. Explore relocated houses and outdoor grounds, with lunch and a rest. Check the restaurant’s opening on your date.

For the return, board the Sarubobo Bus towards Takayama Nohi Bus Center at Hida-no-Sato. The circular timetable lists Hida-no-Sato twice: read its departure row and the center arrival row in the same column. After reaching the center, check in at your hotel and eat in the city. Reorder visits if a late arrival prevents daylight sightseeing and return buses. In heavy rain or snow, ask the center about services and consider postponing. This route visits in daylight, without separate evening events.
