Kyoto city sights, Uji or the northern coast?
Consider Kyoto Station as your base for city/Uji visits. Arashiyama and Uji use different lines and suit separate days. For an Amanohashidate overnight, check trains back to Kyoto alongside Monju accommodation.
Palaces, gardens or coastal walks?
Choose Nijo Castle for palace wall paintings/carvings, Tenryu-ji in Arashiyama for leisurely gardens, or Byodoin in Uji for Phoenix Hall pond views and cultural treasures. Compare Fushimi Inari for worship beneath red torii or northern Amanohashidate for seaside pine walks. Sight guides explain admission areas and access.
Itineraries by trip length
Choose between one Kyoto Station hotel for city/Uji returns and a Monju overnight. Select viewing areas, then compare admission separately from rail/subway costs.
2 days / 1 night
Visit Nijo on day 1 and Arashiyama on day 2, or Uji on day 1 and prepare for departure near Kyoto Station on day 2. Choose around return time.
3 days / 2 nights
Give Nijo, Arashiyama and Uji separate days, or leave day 2 for Phoenix Hall interior waiting. Check whether final-day Uji returns fit departure.
4 days / 3 nights
Divide three areas from one Kyoto hotel or spend 2 Kyoto nights followed by 1 in Monju. Returning from the north must leave time for your final departure connection.
5 days / 4 nights
Remaining in Kyoto gives Fushimi Inari its own day. Choosing a northern overnight gives a final Kyoto night after returning from Monju, then departure the next day.

Arashiyama
Consider accommodation here if you want to spend the evening in Arashiyama after garden and riverside visits.
JR, Randen and Hankyu stations serving Arashiyama are in different locations; check the route from your hotel to the station you will use.
Around Amanohashidate Station
Consider accommodation near the station for sandbar walks and a night on the northern coast.
Distinguish Monju on the station's southern side from accommodation across the sandbar. Check whether your hotel needs boat or bus access.
Separate day trips from Kyoto Station
Nijo-jo Castle · 元離宮二条城
Spend a day visiting the palace and gardens. Distinguish Ninomaru-inclusive admission from separate Honmaru tickets, and check Nijojo-mae-to-entrance access.
Arashiyama · 嵐山
Visit Tenryu-ji garden and eat in the area. From Kyoto Station, use JR Sagano to Saga-Arashiyama. Similar Randen/Hankyu station names have different arrival locations.
Uji · 宇治
Combine Byodoin garden/exhibitions and meals on one day. For Phoenix Hall interior too, allow first-come same-day admission time. Interior viewing is separate from basic admission.

Choose meals in the area you visit
A meal in Kyoto City
Explore tofu dishes and obanzai for Kyoto food. Eat near Arashiyama on its sightseeing day or Kyoto Station before a train departure. Check each restaurant's menu, prices and reservation conditions.
Uji and northern overnight days
After Byodoin, choose a Uji restaurant along that day's route. For a Monju overnight, check whether dinner is included and the required arrival time first. Find Uji and Monju restaurants within each area.

Compare admission separately from transport
Route subtotals cover the listed facility admission. Add accommodation, meals, JR and subway separately. Optional viewing changes admission costs too.
Nijo Castle
Castle/Ninomaru-inclusive admission is 1,300 yen. Honmaru needs a separate ticket and reservation.
Byodoin
Basic garden/Hoshokan admission is 700 yen. Phoenix Hall interior adds 300 yen after first-come same-day admission.
Hashidate returns
The October 2026 table gives 10,000 yen ordinary-car reserved-seat returns when both dates are regular-season days. Recheck seasonal fares and seats for actual dates.
Kansai Wide
The adult 5-consecutive-day pass costs 12,000 yen. Compared with the 10,000-yen regular-season return above, northern travel alone does not make it cheaper. Check eligibility, coverage and seat reservations together.

Will a northern overnight change my Kyoto hotel stay?
The 3-night northern route spends 2 nights in Kyoto then 1 in Monju south of Amanohashidate's sandbar. The 4-night route adds a final Kyoto night. Monju and Fuchu across the sandbar have different access; choose hotel location and reserved Hashidate returns first.
