4 days in Kyoto: spend a night on the northern coast?
Keep your Kyoto hotel for separate Nijo, Arashiyama and Uji days and a station-based departure day. For a northern night and next-day pine walks, compare 2 Kyoto nights followed by 1 in southern Monju. Return by Hashidate for final departure on the last day; choose the city-based route if connections leave insufficient time.
Choose a 4 days / 3 nights itinerary
A day each for Nijo Castle, Arashiyama and Uji
Give Nijo's palace/gardens, Arashiyama's garden and Uji's Phoenix Hall separate days. Stay 3 nights at one Kyoto Station hotel, then prepare for departure near the station on the last day.

Do I need a pass for northern trains?
You can take Hashidate with ordinary base-fare and limited-express tickets. JR's October 2026 table gives 10,000 yen regular-season ordinary-car reserved-seat returns; Kansai Wide's adult 5-day pass is 12,000 yen. A northern return alone does not make the pass cheaper. Compare other eligible journeys within validity too, checking Temporary Visitor/passport conditions and advance seat reservations. City subway, facility admission, accommodation and meals cost separately.

Frequently asked questions
Can I go straight to the airport after returning from Amanohashidate?
Search Hashidate returns to Kyoto and airport travel around your actual flight. If train arrival leaves insufficient airport time even after shortening walks, choose 3 nights near Kyoto Station for city/Uji visits. For another Kyoto night after northern travel, compare the 5-day route. Hashidate arrival alone cannot guarantee a flight connection.
Can I compare Kansai Wide for Hashidate travel?
Kansai Wide covers eligible JR limited-express/ordinary trains and Kyoto Tango Railway for 5 consecutive days. All Hashidate seats are reserved; reserve before boarding. A non-Japanese passport and Temporary Visitor status are required. Kyoto city subway, facility admission, accommodation and meals cost separately. Ordinary tickets are also an option.
