For a hotel near Aomori Station or the waterfront, take the JR bus from airport stop 2. The ride to Aomori Station takes about 35 minutes and costs JPY 980 one way for an adult. If you are catching the Shinkansen at Shin-Aomori, change trains at Aomori Station or take a taxi directly from the airport: the airport bus does not stop at Shin-Aomori.

Aomori Station · 青森駅 is the station for the city centre and waterfront. Shin-Aomori Station · 新青森駅 is the Shinkansen station. Check both your hotel address and the station printed on your rail booking before choosing transport.
These are on-board journey times. They exclude immigration, baggage collection, walking to the stop, waiting, rental-car collection and rail transfers.

From arrivals to the Aomori Station bus
- Finish arrival formalities and collect your bags, then enter the 1F arrivals lobby. Bus stops and the taxi rank are outside the ground-floor entrance. Domestic arrivals also use the stops outside 1F; follow the official floor plan.
- Prepare cash or a supported transport IC card. You pay on the bus when getting off, rather than buying a separate ticket at a counter. From 1 October 2026, JPY 5,000 and 10,000 notes cannot be changed on the bus. Carry small notes or coins.
- Go to stop 2 and check “Aomori Station / 青森駅”. Stop 1 is for the Konan Bus to Hirosaki, a different destination.
- Take a numbered ticket for cash payment, or tap your IC card on entry. On exit, put the numbered ticket and cash fare into the fare box in that order, or tap the card again. Aomori Station costs JPY 980 for an adult and JPY 490 for a primary-school child.
- Get off at Aomori Station, stop 11. Collect your suitcase, then head towards the station’s east-side square. Your next step depends on your hotel address or waterfront destination.
Seats are unreserved. Luggage space is limited, and a busy bus may be unable to carry all bags. Contact JR Bus in advance to arrange skis, snowboards or a folding bicycle; a folding bicycle costs JPY 500 extra. For enquiries call 0570-000448.

Changing for the Shinkansen at Shin-Aomori
Stay on the airport bus to Aomori Station, then take a JR Ou Main Line train that calls at Shin-Aomori. Check the departure time and platform before buying your ticket. At Shin-Aomori, follow the Shinkansen transfer signs, marked 新幹線のりかえ口.
The airport’s access guide gives about 6 minutes between the two stations. Together with the 35-minute bus journey, that is about 41 minutes on vehicles, plus the walk into the station, ticket purchase, transfer and train wait. A short rail journey does not mean the next train leaves immediately.
A taxi directly to Shin-Aomori removes the transfer. The estimated ride is about 30 minutes and the taxi association gives roughly JPY 6,600 for a standard vehicle. Snow and road congestion can extend the journey, so leave a margin before your booked Shinkansen.

From the bus stop to your hotel or attraction
Hotels near the station and Shinmachi
Shinmachi 1-chome · 新町一丁目 extends into the city from the station’s east side. Check your hotel address from the square: a hotel beside the station and one further along Shinmachi have different final walks.
The bus also calls at Shinmachi 1-chome, Kencho-dori and Shinmachi 2-chome. Choose an earlier stop only after checking its location against your hotel. With heavy luggage or difficult snowy pavements, compare a taxi to the hotel.

Head towards the waterfront from the station’s east-side square. WA RASSE’s official guide gives about a 1-minute walk from Aomori Station; the walk from bus stop 11 and any crossings are extra. Snow can slow the final stretch. Check opening times and luggage storage before heading straight into the museum.

A-FACTORY is near WA RASSE on the waterfront east of the station. Its official guide gives about a 2-minute walk from Aomori Station. Walk towards the water and check the entrance; the bus-stop approach is additional time.
Its own parking area closes from December to March because of falling snow from the Bay Bridge. If driving, check the current parking notice and opening hours before you set off.

Use the official taxi rank outside 1F. The taxi association’s reference fares are about JPY 6,200 to Aomori Station and JPY 6,600 to Shin-Aomori, per standard vehicle. Metered fares, a 20% surcharge from 22:00 to 05:00 and a 20% winter surcharge from 1 December to the end of February, traffic and vehicle type can change the total; ask the operator for a quote rather than treating these as fixed fares.
Before boarding, show the driver your hotel address or Shin-Aomori Station, confirm space for luggage, and ask about the total and accepted payment methods. Do not assume every taxi accepts bank cards. A pre-booked fixed-fare taxi is a separate service. Confirm the covered area, vehicle, passengers and luggage, meeting point, flight-delay waiting policy and cancellation terms with the company before booking. The taxi association lists Aomori Taxi (017-738-6000) and Sanpachigo Kanko Taxi (017-742-2211). A missed booking does not automatically move to another vehicle or qualify for a refund; contact the provider.
For a rental car, go to the airport’s 1F counter and follow the provider’s collection or shuttle instructions. Confirm a licence valid for driving in Japan, opening hours, payment conditions, winter equipment and the return location. The Times branch’s own page lists its collection arrangements and winter hours; do not assume a late arrival can collect a car after closing.

The last bus and a delayed flight
The airport-to-Aomori Station timetable shows 21:30 daily, arriving at Aomori Station at 22:05 as the final departure for both 1 September–24 October and 25 October–30 November 2026. Recheck the official timetable for later dates or a revised schedule.
JR Bus says a departure can be delayed by a late aircraft or busy baggage reclaim, but also warns that a delayed flight may miss the connection. This is not a promise that the last bus will wait for you. Ask at arrivals which bus you can actually catch.
After service ends, use the official taxi rank or contact your booked taxi provider. If connecting to the Shinkansen, also check the last Ou Main Line train and your onward departure. Contact JR or your ticket retailer about changes before the booked train leaves, and tell your hotel about its check-in deadline and your revised arrival.

Going to Hirosaki?
Hirosaki · 弘前 uses the Konan Bus from airport stop 1 to Hirosaki Bus Terminal. The airport lists about 55 minutes and JPY 1,600 for an adult. This is a different route and fare from the stop 2 service to Aomori Station.

How do I get from Aomori Airport to Aomori Station?

Can I travel straight from the airport to Shin-Aomori Station?

The bus and train take about 35 and 6 minutes respectively; allow extra time to transfer and wait. A direct taxi takes about 30 minutes before traffic or weather delays.
