Aomori Airport to Aomori and Shin-Aomori

For a hotel near Aomori Station, WA RASSE, or A-FACTORY, take the Aomori Station-bound bus from airport stop 2. The ride takes about 35 minutes and costs 980 yen one way for an adult. If you are catching a Shinkansen, you need Shin-Aomori Station instead. The airport bus does not stop there: transfer to a train at Aomori Station or take a taxi directly from the airport.

Should I go to my accommodation or transfer to the Shinkansen?

Aomori Station · 青森駅 serves city-center hotels and waterfront attractions. Shin-Aomori Station · 新青森駅 is the Shinkansen station. They are separate stations, so check both your hotel address and the station printed on your train booking.

The times below are approximate times after boarding the bus or train. Immigration inspection, baggage pickup, waiting for the bus, picking up the rental car, and train transfer/waiting time are not included.

Take the bus to Aomori Station from the arrival lobby

After immigration, baggage claim, and customs, enter the first-floor arrivals lobby. Domestic arrivals also reach the bus and taxi stands from the first floor. Follow the bus signs and the official floor map rather than looking for an unverified exit number.
Have cash or a supported transit IC card ready. You pay onboard when getting off rather than buying a ticket at a separate counter. From October 1, 2026, the bus cannot change 5,000- or 10,000-yen bills, so prepare smaller bills and coins.
Go outside to bus stop 2 and look for JR Bus Tohoku bound for 青森駅 / Aomori Station. Stop 1 next to it serves Konan Bus toward Hirosaki—not Aomori city.
If paying cash, take a numbered ticket when boarding and put it in the fare box with your fare when getting off. With a supported IC card, tap the reader when boarding and again when exiting. The Aomori Station fare is 980 yen for adults or 490 yen for elementary-school children.
Get off at Aomori Station stop 11. After taking your suitcase, go to the plaza on the east side of the station. The route to the accommodation and the route to WA RASSE on the waterfront are separated below.

Seats are unreserved; this is not a reserved-seat bus service. Contact JR Bus in advance to arrange skis, snowboards, or folding bicycles. Even ordinary suitcases may not fit when baggage space is full.

If you take the Shinkansen from Shin-Aomori Station

Stay on the airport bus to its last stop at Aomori Station, then transfer to the JR Ou Main Line. Choose a train that stops at Shin-Aomori and check its departure and platform before buying your ticket. At Shin-Aomori, follow 新幹線のりかえ口 to the Shinkansen transfer gates.

Official airport information puts the train journey between the two stations at approximately 6 minutes. Combined with the 35 minutes for the bus, the ride time is approximately 41 minutes, plus the time to get off the bus and enter the station and the time to wait for the next train. A short train ride does not mean an immediate connection. Leave enough time to reach the platform and wait for the next train before your booked Shinkansen.

If you want to save on transfers, you can take an airport taxi directly to Shin-Aomori Station. The ride time is about 30 minutes, and the current taxi association reference price is about 6,600 yen. Taxis can also be delayed on snowy roads, so leave a buffer before the Shinkansen departure.

From Aomori Station to hotels and attractions

Accommodations around Aomori Station east and Shinmachi

When you get off the bus, check your accommodation address based on the square on the east side of the station. Shinmachi 1-chome · 新町一丁目 side is the area that runs from the east side of the station to the city.

The walking distance is different between lodgings in front of the station and lodgings inside Shinmachi. Enter your hotel name as the destination to check the final route, and compare how to take a taxi from the airport to your accommodation if you have a large suitcase or don't feel comfortable with the snow.

The bus also stops at Shinmachi 1-chome, Kencho-dori, and Shinmachi 2-chome, but you must check the addresses to determine whether the stop is close to your hotel. Don’t get off at the ‘downtown’ stop without knowing the location first.

If you move from the square on the east side of the station toward the waterfront, you will find WA RASSE. The museum’s official access guide lists about a one-minute walk from Aomori Station. Travel time from bus stop 11 to the front of the station is separate, and may take longer due to snowy roads or waiting at traffic lights.

If you plan to visit right away upon arrival, check whether you can store your suitcase and what the admission times are on the day.

A-FACTORY · エーファクトリー

A-FACTORY is also located on the waterfront east of the station, close to WA RASSE. A-FACTORY’s official access guide lists about a two-minute walk from Aomori Station. From the plaza east of the station, head towards the coast and find the entrance on the facility map.

The two places are connected by a short walking section, but rather than dragging large luggage and exploring right away, it is worth considering leaving it at your accommodation and then returning.

If you are going by rental car, decide on a parking lot first. A-FACTORY closes its own parking lot from December through March because snow may fall from the nearby Bay Bridge. In winter, please use the designated alternative parking information on the official page.

For taxis and reserved vehicles, please specify the address of your accommodation.

Go out from the arrival lobby on the 1st floor and go to the official taxi stand. You do not need a bus ticket to use the taxi stand.
Please show the driver your accommodation name/address or ‘新青森駅’. There should be a clear distinction between Aomori Station and Shin-Aomori Station.
Before boarding, check the vehicle size, luggage capacity, estimated total amount, and whether cash or card payment is possible. You should not assume that the card works in all vehicles.
For reserved vehicles, please go to the meeting location and driver contact information provided by the company. When making a reservation, the flight, arrival time, number of people, and number of suitcases are provided, and in case of delay, waiting, change, and cancellation conditions are also checked.

Please distinguish quoted reservations from metered rates. If you miss a reservation, you must contact the company first as the next ride or refund is not automatically provided.

For regular taxis, according to the association, there is a 20% surcharge for late night and early morning driving from 22:00 to 05:00 the next day, and a 20% winter surcharge from December 1 to the end of February. Please check with the company for the final price, including surcharges, tolls, and reservation fees.

Rental cars are picked up at the rental car terminal next to the airport.

The airport's official list includes Toyota, Nissan, Nippon Rent-a-Car, Times, and Orix. Make sure it is the Aomori Airport branch of the company you reserved, and then go to the rental car terminal. Times directs customers out of domestic arrivals to the rental car terminal on the right, about a one-minute walk away.

For other companies, please follow the pickup location and procedures on the reservation confirmation.

After completing the arrival procedures, go to the company you reserved. Please prepare a reservation confirmation, valid driving qualification document in Japan, and payment method required by the company.
At the counter, you check the contract, insurance, vehicle condition, and winter equipment and then pick up the car. Payment instructions at the Times Airport Branch are by credit card.
Enter the exact address of your accommodation and parking lot entrance into your navigation and set off. According to the airport's official standard, driving to Aomori Station and Shin-Aomori Station is approximately 30 minutes each, and contract and handover times are separate.
In winter, check equipment conditions, including winter tires, and road regulations. If you are staying at hotels in the city and only sightseeing on foot, it is a good idea to compare rental car parking and return costs as well.

Check your rental company’s seasonal hours as well as the airport’s general listing. For example, Times lists regular hours from 08:00 to 20:00 and December to March from 08:00 to 19:00 (excluding the New Year holidays). If your flight is late and you think you will miss the pick-up time, please contact the reservation office and check the change/cancellation conditions.

The last airport bus and late arrivals

The last bus to Aomori Station is from the airport at 21:30 → Aomori Station at 22:05. JR bus timetables for September 1 - October 24, 2026 and October 25 - November 30, 2026 are all marked as daily operation. For December onward or a revised schedule, check the timetable for your travel date rather than relying on these departures.

The operator informs you that bus departure may be delayed due to aircraft delay or baggage congestion, and that if the aircraft is delayed, you may not be able to connect to the bus. If your flight is late, it doesn't necessarily mean that the last bus will also wait.

After leaving the arrival hall, ask which bus departures are still available, and if the service has ended, use the official taxi stand or reservation agency outside the first floor.

When going to Shin-Aomori Station, you must check not only the last airport bus, but also the train and Shinkansen that will transfer at Aomori Station. If you think you will miss the Shinkansen you have booked, please contact JR or the sales office for change conditions before departure. Winter travel: where to check service and road conditions

Snow doesn't mean all transportation will stop. You must check the conditions of flights, airport buses, JR, and roads respectively. Check airline announcements before arrival, and bus announcements and actual boarding point information after landing.

Save the walking route from the station to your accommodation in advance. In snowy and icy areas, the time spent walking with a suitcase may increase. Use the official pick-up point late at night, and if walking to and from the entrance to your accommodation is burdensome, consider taking a taxi to your accommodation.

Continuing to Hirosaki

If you are going to Hirosaki · 弘前, take the Konan bus bound for Hirosaki Bus Terminal at platform 1. The airport lists about 55 minutes and an adult fare of 1,600 yen. This is a different destination and fare from the stop 2 bus to Aomori Station.

How do I get from Aomori Airport to Aomori Station?

Take JR Bus Tohoku toward Aomori Station from bus stop 2 outside first-floor arrivals. The ride to Aomori Station stop 11 takes about 35 minutes and costs 980 yen for an adult. Pay onboard when getting off with cash or a supported transit IC card. Allow additional time for immigration, baggage claim, and waiting.

Are Aomori Station and Shin-Aomori Station the same place?

No. City-center hotels, WA RASSE, and A-FACTORY are near Aomori Station. Shinkansen trains depart from Shin-Aomori Station. The JR Ou Main Line connects the two stations.

Can I go directly from the airport to Shin-Aomori Station?

The Aomori Station-bound airport bus does not stop at Shin-Aomori. Transfer to the JR Ou Main Line at Aomori Station or take a taxi directly from the airport. The bus ride takes about 35 minutes and the train ride about six minutes, plus walking and waiting for the connection. A direct taxi takes about 30 minutes, subject to road conditions.

What if my flight is delayed and I miss the last departure?

In the 2026 timetables from September 1 to October 24 and October 25 to November 30, the last bus to Aomori Station departs from the airport at 21:30 every day. If your flight is delayed, you may not be able to connect, so do not assume the bus will wait for you. After bus service ends, use the official taxi stand outside the first floor or contact the reservation company, and notify the accommodation of your late check-in.

Can I take the bus with a large suitcase?

There is space for luggage, but it may not be possible to carry it depending on the size, number, and congestion. Please check with the driver before boarding if you have large luggage, and for skis, snowboards, or folding bicycles, please call JR Bus 0570-000448 in advance to make a reservation. For folding bicycles, an additional 500 yen is added to the fare.

Where can I check driving conditions in winter?

Please check JR Bus Tohoku operation notices, Aomori Airport flight information, JR East Japan Tohoku operation information, and road regulations on the Aomori Prefecture Disaster Prevention Portal. You cannot determine bus suspension or flight cancellation based on snow forecast alone.

Can I walk from Aomori Station to WA RASSE and A-FACTORY?

Yes. Both are east of the station toward the waterfront. Their official access guides list about one minute from the station to WA RASSE and about two minutes to A-FACTORY. Add the walk from bus stop 11 to the station, time at crossings, and extra time for snow or ice.
