Matsuyama Airport to the city and Dogo Onsen

Choose a stop near your hotel: JR Matsuyama Station, Matsuyama City Station, Okaido or Dogo Onsen. The airport limousine serves the main stops more quickly; a regular local bus can cost less. A through service to Dogo Onsen avoids a transfer, but some services terminate at Matsuyama City Station, so check the destination before boarding.

1F arrivals → choose a bus and its destination

  1. After arrival formalities and baggage collection, go to the bus area outside 1F arrivals. There is no direct airport train or tram.
  2. Use stop 3 for local buses, stops 4/5 for limousines. Stops 6/7 are airport-arrival drop-offs, not city-bound boarding.
  3. Check the destination display: 道後温泉駅前 for Dogo, or 松山市駅 for a service ending at Matsuyama City Station. Use your hotel address to judge the final walk.
  4. Limousines board at the front and pay on alighting. Local-bus cash users take a numbered ticket on boarding, then pay it with the fare on exit. Transport IC users tap on both boarding and alighting from buses; on trams, tap when alighting.
  5. Load/unload hold luggage yourself. Keep power banks and valuables in the passenger cabin and count your bags on arrival.

Official guidance lists nationwide reciprocal IC cards and the Mikan app, with an adult JPY 20 discount from cash fare. This is not the same as bank-card tap payment. Carry change, and follow the vehicle’s JPY 1,000-note change instructions. Ask Iyotetsu about large bags on local buses/trams and keep aisles clear.

Limousines do not accept seat reservations; full vehicles may require the next service. Airport transport enquiries: 089-972-2511, 10:00–12:00 and 13:00–16:00 JST.

Compare transportation options according to your accommodation location

The time below is the time it takes after getting into the vehicle. Immigration inspection, baggage retrieval, waiting for the bus, transfer, and walking to the accommodation must be added separately. Depending on congestion and service, transferring to a tram is not always faster than a direct bus.

JR Matsuyama: railway changes and station hotels

JR Matsuyama Station · 松山駅

  1. Take a limousine via JR from airport stops 4/5 (cash JPY 1,000), or local bus from stop 3 (cash JPY 530).
  2. Alight at JR and follow the current new-station signs. Check the actual arrival bay; do not assume it matches airport-bound boarding.
  3. The new station has gates on 1F and platforms on 3F. Check the platform and use the lift after entering the gates. Hotel guests can remain outside and choose the east/west direction by address.

Works continue around the station, so pre-2024 maps may mislead. Matsuyama City opened a temporary passage on 31 August 2026 between the new station’s north entrance and the underpass to the tram stop. Use current signs for a Dogo-bound tram change. The city lists a minimum two-metre width, lighting and tactile paving; current works notices take priority.

Matsuyama City Station: separate from JR

Matsuyama City Station · 松山市駅

  1. Choose a bus via the city station: limousine cash JPY 1,000; local bus JPY 640.
  2. Limousines alight at C2; airport-bound B3 is separate. Follow actual instructions for local-bus arrivals.
  3. Walk to your hotel by address, or follow signs for Iyotetsu suburban trains or tram Line 3 towards Dogo.

The tram takes about twenty minutes, cash JPY 250. Airport limousines cannot be used for a city-only journey: choose a Dogo through limousine at the airport rather than boarding one at the city station.

Okaido hotels: limousine Okaido or local-bus Ichibancho

Okaido · 大街道
Ichibancho · 一番町

Limousines call at Okaido (cash JPY 1,200/about 29 minutes); local buses at Ichibancho (JPY 720/about 35–40 minutes). These are different stops. Choose the final walk according to your hotel’s end of the shopping area.

  1. Choose a service continuing beyond Matsuyama City Station towards Okaido/Ichibancho.
  2. Use the actual arrival stop and hotel address. The limousine’s airport-bound boarding on the Mitsukoshi side differs from city arrival.
  3. For Matsuyama Castle, walk to the lower ropeway station described below. A castle-centre pin can route you towards the hilltop rather than the boarding entrance.

Dogo Onsen: After getting off the bus, walk to the main building and accommodation.

Dogo Onsen Station · 道後温泉駅
Dogo Onsen Honkan · 道後温泉本館

  1. Take the limousine from Airport No. 4 or 5 to Dogo Onsen Station. Cash 1,200 yen, ride approximately 40 minutes. For regular buses, take number 3 to Dogo, cost 830 yen in cash, and take about 49 to 55 minutes.
  2. Get off at the stop in front of Dogo Onsen Station and check the location of the station and Hojoen. The bus drop-off point and tram station are separate. If you transfer to the tram, get off at Dogo Onsen Station.
  3. The main building is located along the Dogo Haikara-dori shopping street. Individual hotels may have different directions from the main building and some are located on hills, so please use the accommodation address for directions.

Basic bathing at ‘Kami no Yu’ in the main building without a rest area is open from 6:00 to 23:00, last admission at 22:30, and costs 700 yen for adults. Registration for other lounges and courses ends earlier.

Just because you can arrive at Dogo does not mean you can take a bath on the same day, so please check the reception time and congestion situation for your desired course.

Matsuyama Castle: lower ropeway station first

Matsuyama Castle · 松山城
Shinonomeguchi Station · 東雲口駅

Walk about five minutes from Okaido along Ropeway Street to Shinonomeguchi. Buy a ticket on 1F and board on 3F. The ropeway takes about three minutes; from upper Chojaganaru, allow another ten minutes walking to the tower. Reaching the lower boarding station is not the start of the tower visit.

From JR, Matsuyama City Station or Dogo, take a tram to Okaido then walk. Consider leaving large bags at your hotel. Ropeway, chairlift and tower hours differ by season and service status.

Limousines can wait for your arrival when your flight is delayed, but if you are significantly late, they can direct you to the next bus. Not all international arriving passengers or the last bus is guaranteed to wait.

If you are late, first ask which remaining buses serve your destination and inform the accommodation of your expected arrival time and whether late check-in is possible. After October 25th you will need to check again with the new limousine timetable.

If buses have finished or the Dogo connection is missed

Go to the official taxi rank to the right of the front entrance outside 1F arrivals. Show the Japanese address rather than the name of the accommodation and ask about the estimated total amount, night surcharge, additional costs, and luggage availability.

When paying by card or smartphone, check the corresponding vehicle display and do not assume that on-site dispatch is always possible. For a booking, match the company, meeting point and vehicle number.

The taxi association reservation contact information in the airport’s official information is: 0120-71-2441(Weekdays 8:30~17:00, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays). This does not mean that this contact will take late night reservations. Use accommodation transfer service only when the actual operation and reservation conditions of the accommodation in question have been confirmed.
