Matsuyama Airport to the city and Dogo Onsen

Choose the airport bus for your hotel's location: JR Matsuyama Station, Matsuyama City Station, Okaido or Dogo Onsen. The limousine makes fewer stops; the regular bus costs less. For a Dogo hotel, a bus continuing to Dogo Onsen avoids a transfer. Check the destination, since some buses end at Matsuyama City Station.

From the arrivals hall to the bus

  1. After immigration and baggage collection, leave the first-floor arrivals hall for the bus stops. Neither trains nor trams serve the airport.
  2. Use stop 3 for regular buses, or stops 4 and 5 for limousine buses. Stops 6 and 7 are for buses arriving at the airport, not departures toward the city.
  3. Look for 道後温泉駅前 for Dogo Onsen or 松山市駅 for Matsuyama City Station. Match the stop to your hotel's address and check the final walk, rather than expecting the destination sign to name your hotel.
  4. On a limousine, board at the front and pay when exiting. On a regular bus, cash passengers take a numbered ticket on boarding and put it in the fare box with the fare on exiting. With a supported transit IC card, tap when both boarding and exiting a bus; on a tram, tap when exiting.
  5. Load and collect your own bags from the limousine's luggage compartment. Keep power banks and valuables with you and check that you have every bag before leaving.

The operator accepts supported nationwide transit IC cards and the Mikan app, with adult fares ¥20 lower than cash fares. Bank-card contactless payment is a different system; do not assume a credit card works as a transit IC card.

Have change ready and follow the onboard instructions for changing ¥1,000 bills. Ask the operator about large or multiple bags on regular buses and trams, and keep the aisle clear.

Limousines do not take reservations; if one is full, you may need the next departure. For Iyotetsu airport transportation inquiries, call 089-972-2511 during 10:00–12:00 or 13:00–16:00 JST.

The time below is the time it takes after getting into the vehicle. Immigration inspection, baggage retrieval, waiting for the bus, transfer, and walking to the accommodation must be added separately. Depending on congestion and service, transferring to a tram is not always faster than a direct bus.

The tram ride costs 250 yen cash and 230 yen cashless. When you transfer from a regular bus to a tram, you pay each fare, and the above total is based on cash. Airport limousines cannot be used only between city stops, so check the tram or city bus when going from JR Station to Dogo Onsen.

JR Matsuyama Station: for JR trains and nearby hotels

JR Matsuyama Station · 松山駅

  1. Board a limousine serving JR Matsuyama Station at airport stop 4 or 5, or a regular bus at stop 3. Cash fares are ¥1,000 and ¥530 respectively.
  2. Get off at JR Matsuyama Station and follow signs for the new station building. Confirm the arrival bay on site; its number is not necessarily the same as your airport boarding stop.
  3. JR ticket gates are on the first floor and platforms on the third. For a train connection, check the destination and platform, then use the elevator as needed. For a hotel, remain outside the gates and check whether its address is east or west of the station.

Construction around the station means maps predating its 2024 relocation may show an outdated walk. Matsuyama City opened a temporary passage on August 31, 2026, linking the new station's north entrance with the underpass toward the tram stop. Follow current signs for this connection if you are taking a Dogo-bound tram.

The city's notice describes a passage at least 2 meters wide, with lighting and tactile paving. Check the latest construction notice for the route currently in use.

Matsuyama City Station is not the JR station

Matsuyama City Station · 松山市駅

  1. Choose a bus serving Matsuyama City Station. Cash fares are ¥1,000 for the limousine or ¥640 for a regular bus.
  2. Limousines arrive at C2. B3 is for the return trip to the airport. Follow on-site guidance for regular-bus arrival stops.
  3. Walk to a nearby hotel using its address. For an Iyotetsu suburban train or route 3 tram to Dogo Onsen, follow the signs for that service.

The route 3 tram takes about 20 minutes to Dogo Onsen and costs ¥250 in cash. To use an airport limousine to Dogo, board a Dogo-bound service at the airport; you cannot board it solely for the city-to-Dogo section.

Okaido hotels: choose Okaido or Ichibancho

Okaido · 大街道
Ichibancho · 一番町

Limousines stop at Okaido; regular buses stop at Ichibancho. These are different stops. The limousine costs ¥1,200 in cash and takes about 29 minutes; a regular bus costs ¥720 and takes about 35–40 minutes. Check the final walk for your hotel's location within the shopping district.

  1. Choose an Okaido-bound limousine or a regular bus through Ichibancho. A bus ending at Matsuyama City Station does not reach Okaido.
  2. Use your hotel's address for walking directions from the arrival stop. The limousine's city-bound drop-off and the airport-bound boarding stop on the Mitsukoshi side are separate.
  3. For Matsuyama Castle, walk to the lower ropeway station. Searching only for the castle may direct you to the hilltop instead of the boarding point.

Dogo Onsen: walk from the stop to the baths or hotel

Dogo Onsen Station · 道後温泉駅
Dogo Onsen Honkan · 道後温泉本館

  1. At airport stop 4 or 5, board a Dogo-bound limousine: ¥1,200 in cash, about 40 minutes. A Dogo-bound regular bus leaves from stop 3: ¥830 in cash, about 49–55 minutes.
  2. Get off in front of Dogo Onsen Station and orient yourself using the station and Hojoen. The bus stop is separate from the tram station. If you arrive by tram instead, get off at Dogo Onsen Station.
  3. Walk along Dogo Haikara-dori shopping street to Honkan. Use your hotel's address for hotel directions: it may be in a different direction or up a hill.

Dogo Onsen Station → Honkan walking directions ↗ · Dogo limousine stops ↗

Kami-no-yu bathing without a rest area at Honkan costs ¥700 for adults and is open 06:00–23:00, with last admission at 22:30. Other bathing and lounge options have earlier admission deadlines. Reaching Dogo does not guarantee same-day bathing; check the deadline and availability for the option you want.

Matsuyama Castle: start at the lower ropeway station

Matsuyama Castle · 松山城
Shinonomeguchi Station · 東雲口駅

From Okaido, walk about five minutes along Ropeway Street to Shinonomeguchi Station. Buy your ticket on the first floor and board on the third. The ropeway takes about three minutes to Chojaganaru, followed by a roughly 10-minute walk to the castle tower. Allow for all these stages, not just the ride.

From JR Matsuyama Station, Matsuyama City Station or Dogo Onsen, take a tram to Okaido and walk from there. Ask your hotel about storing large bags before visiting. Check the ropeway, chairlift and castle tower's hours separately; they vary by season and operating conditions.

Last services depend on your destination and the day

These departures run from the airport toward the city, not in the reverse direction.

  • Limousine: Airport 21:30 → JR Station 21:45 → Matsuyama City Station 21:54 → Okaido 21:59 → In front of Dogo Onsen Station 22:10. This is the last scheduled bus in the table for October 1-24, 2026, and there is no day limit indicated in that row.
  • Regular bus weekdays: Airport 20:10 → JR Station 20:29 → Matsuyama City Station 20:39 → Ichibancho 20:43 → Dogo Onsen Station 20:54.
  • Regular buses on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays: The last bus bound for JR Station and Matsuyama City Station departs at 20:20 and arrives at 20:39 and 20:47, respectively. That bus ends at Matsuyama City Station. The last route to Ichibancho and Dogo Onsen departs at 19:40 and arrives at Ichibancho and Dogo at 20:14 and 20:26. The Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday schedule also applies from December 29th to January 3rd.
  • Streetcar to Dogo: Line 3 from Matsuyama City Station: last departure 22:01 → Dogo 22:21. Line 5 from JR Matsuyama Station: last departure 22:00 → Dogo 22:25. The operator's published tram timetable was revised on November 1, 2023. Allow time to walk from the bus stop to the tram stop and wait; these connections are not guaranteed.

A limousine may wait for a delayed flight, but a substantial delay may mean using a later departure. Neither a wait for every international arrival nor boarding the last bus is guaranteed.

If you arrive late, ask which buses remain for your destination and tell your hotel your expected arrival time. Confirm late check-in. For October 25 onward, check the new limousine timetable.

If buses have finished or you miss the Dogo connection

Exit the arrival hall on the first floor of the airport and check the official taxi stand on the right side of the front entrance. Show your hotel's Japanese address and ask about the estimated total fare, late-night surcharge, other charges and space for your luggage.

Check the taxi's payment stickers before boarding if you plan to pay by card or phone. A taxi may not be immediately available. For a prebooked ride, confirm the operator, pickup point and vehicle number.

The taxi association reservation contact information in the official airport information is 0120-71-2441 (weekdays 8:30~17:00, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays). This number is not a late-night booking service. If your hotel offers a transfer, confirm its hours and reservation requirements directly. 0120-71-2441

Official transportation purchase and reservation information

Airport limousines and regular buses are boarded without reserving a seat. Check the operator's payment instructions, timetable and fares below; taxi and rental-car reservations are separate.

Rental car reception is located near the east exit on the first floor of the airport. When you claim your baggage and come out to the arrivals hall, check the direction of the counter on the right. The counter and vehicle pickup point may be in different locations.

Ask your rental company where you collect the car, whether a shuttle is needed, the final pickup time and how delays affect your reservation. Also check the airport shuttle after return, accepted driving documents, insurance, deductibles and parking costs.

At the Toyota Matsuyama Airport branch, you can apply at the dedicated counter on the right side of the arrival lobby and then receive a free shuttle to the rental office. Official business hours are 8:00-20:00 from January 4 to December 29, 8:00-17:00 from December 30 to January 2, and 8:00-16:00 on January 3. There are no closed days. These are business hours and not final pick-up times or guarantees that reservations will be held in case of delays. If your flight is delayed, call 089-972-6100 to confirm pickup, cancellation rules and the airport shuttle after return. Please do not apply these times to other companies. Matsuyama Airport Transportation, Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get from Matsuyama Airport to the city?

Take an Iyotetsu limousine at airport stop 4 or 5, or a regular bus at stop 3 outside the first-floor arrivals hall. Choose a service for JR Matsuyama Station, Matsuyama City Station, Okaido or Dogo Onsen, depending on your hotel's address. Trains and trams do not serve the airport.

Are JR Matsuyama Station and Matsuyama City Station the same station?

No. JR Matsuyama Station serves JR trains; Matsuyama City Station serves Iyotetsu suburban trains. At the new JR station, ticket gates are on the first floor and platforms on the third. For a tram transfer, follow current signs for the temporary passage opened in 2026 between the north entrance and the tram-stop underpass.

Which stop should I use for an Okaido hotel?

Limousines stop at Okaido (大街道), while regular buses stop at Ichibancho (一番町). These stops are in different locations. Check the final walk using your hotel's address. City-bound limousine arrivals also use a different stop from airport-bound departures.

Can I go directly to Dogo Onsen?

Yes, some limousine and regular buses stop in front of Dogo Onsen Station. Check that your bus continues to Dogo rather than ending at Matsuyama City Station. Limousines take about 40 minutes and regular buses about 49–55 minutes, excluding arrival formalities, waiting and the walk.

How do limousine and regular buses differ?

Limousines make fewer stops and have a lower luggage compartment; passengers load and retrieve their own bags. On regular buses, carry bags on board and ask the operator about oversized or multiple items. Adult cash fares for limousine/regular bus are ¥1,000/¥530 to JR Matsuyama, ¥1,000/¥640 to Matsuyama City Station, ¥1,200/¥720 to Okaido/Ichibancho and ¥1,200/¥830 to Dogo Onsen.

Do I need to reserve the airport bus?

Iyotetsu limousines do not take reservations. If a departure is full, you may need the next service. Regular buses also use on-site boarding. For a separately reserved car, check that company's pickup and cancellation conditions.

How do I pay?

Board a limousine at the front and pay when exiting. With cash on a regular bus, take a numbered ticket on boarding and put it in the fare box with the fare on exiting. Supported transit IC cards and the Mikan app give a ¥20 adult discount compared with cash. Tap a transit IC card when both boarding and exiting a bus; on a tram, tap on exiting. Bank-card contactless is not the same system.

Can I bring a large suitcase?

Load and collect your own suitcase from the limousine's luggage compartment, keeping power banks and valuables with you. On regular buses and trams, keep aisles clear and ask Iyotetsu about the permitted size and number of large bags.

How do I walk from the Dogo stop to Honkan?

Get off in front of Dogo Onsen Station, orient yourself using the station and Hojoen, then follow Dogo Haikara-dori shopping street to Honkan. The bus stop, tram station and baths are separate places. Use your hotel's address for hotel directions, especially for a property on a hill.

How do I reach the Matsuyama Castle ropeway?

Walk about five minutes from Okaido along Ropeway Street to Shinonomeguchi Station. Buy your ticket on the first floor and board on the third. The ropeway takes about three minutes to Chojaganaru; the castle tower is about a further 10-minute walk.

What if I miss the last departure?

The October 1–24, 2026 limousine timetable lists the last airport departure for all four destinations at 21:30. A bus may wait for a delayed flight, but a substantial delay may mean using a later departure; boarding the last bus is not guaranteed. Ask which services remain. If none suit your trip, check the official taxi stand or your reserved car and confirm late check-in with your hotel.
