Takamatsu Airport to Takamatsu, Kawaramachi, Ritsurin Garden and the port

For a Takamatsu Station hotel or a JR connection, get off at Takamatsu Station. For Kawaramachi, use the Kawaramachi stop; for Ritsurin Garden, use Ritsurin Koenmae. If catching an island ferry, check whether your airport bus continues to the port, then find the correct ticket office and boarding area for your booked sailing.

Takamatsu Station hotels and JR connections

Takamatsu Station · 高松駅
Takamatsu-Chikko Station · 高松築港駅

  1. Prepare the JPY 1,300 fare and go from arrivals to airport stop 2.
  2. Take a city-bound limousine calling at 高松駅, about fifty minutes, via Kawaramachi, Hyogo-machi, Takamatsu-Chikko and JR Hotel Clement.
  3. Alight at Takamatsu Station stop 6. The airport-bound return uses stop 3, not arrival stop 6.
  4. For JR, walk south-west to the JR Takamatsu station building, buy a ticket and use the gates. Check the platform display. For a hotel, remain outside the gates and follow its address from the square.

Kotoden uses separate Takamatsu-Chikko Station

Walk east towards Chuo-dori/Tamamo Park to Kotoden’s entrance. Its gates, tickets and fares are separate from JR. Alternatively, alight earlier from the airport bus at Takamatsu-Chikko stop 8 and use nearby crossings/station signs.

  1. Prepare JPY 1,000 and go to airport stop 2.
  2. Take the city limousine via Ritsurin Koenmae/Nakajincho, and alight at Kawaramachi stop 5 after about 35 minutes.
  3. From the western bus terminal, follow your hotel address. Western shopping-area hotels and hotels east of the railway require different routes. Use station passage/lift signs if crossing sides.

Nakajincho · 中新町 and Kencho Chuo Koen Mae · 県庁中央公園前 cost JPY 1,000; Hyogo-machi · 兵庫町 costs JPY 1,300. A stop near Central Park or Hyogo-machi may suit your address better than going to Kawaramachi and back.

East Gate · 東門 / North Gate · 北門

  1. Prepare JPY 1,000 and board the city limousine at airport stop 2.
  2. Alight at 栗林公園前 after about 28 minutes. Station-bound buses stop on the garden side.
  3. Follow the fence and 東門 signs to the East Gate ticket office, about one minute on foot in official guidance. The map marks the entrance rather than the garden centre.

Similarly named stations lead to different entrances

Kotoden Ritsurin-Koen · 栗林公園駅 is south-east of the East Gate, about seven minutes walking. JR Ritsurin-Koen-Kitaguchi · 栗林公園北口駅 is about three minutes from the North Gate. JR Ritsurin · 栗林駅 is a separate station, about fifteen minutes walking. No train runs directly from the airport to these stations; first reach the city by bus. For an immediate garden visit, the airport-bus stop is simpler.

October’s normal hours are 06:00–17:30. A late bus does not extend garden entry; plan the following day if needed. Gate lockers have size/capacity limits. Official storage for bags that do not fit is JPY 400 per item; allow time to collect them.

Takamatsu Port: choose the island, port and vessel first

Takamatsu Port · 高松港
Ferry Terminal · フェリーターミナル

  1. Prepare JPY 1,300 and go from arrivals to airport stop 2.
  2. Choose a bus with an arrival time in the timetable’s フェリーターミナル column. The airport-to-port ride is about 53 minutes via JR Takamatsu; a blank port cell means no port call.
  3. At the port, find your operator’s ticket office. Ferries use the northern ticket offices and piers 1/2; high-speed boats use a separate eastern ticket office and piers 3/4. All island tickets are not sold at one counter.
  4. If your bus ends at JR, follow north-east port/Sunport signs from the bus terminal. The operator quotes about five minutes from JR to the port; add arrival, crossings, ticketing and the walk to the individual pier.

Last airport buses and flight delays

The 1–24 October 2026 final city-bound bus is 21:45 → In front of the park 22:13 → Kawaramachi 22:20 → Takamatsu Chikko 22:30 → Takamatsu Station 22:35. The port space for this section is blank. Last bus to the ferry terminal 19:10 → Port 20:03, and neither departure has a weekday restriction symbol.

Some other international-linked buses have symbols such as Friday only or Sunday, Tuesday, Friday. Airport buses linked to Seoul international arrivals are also displayed separately, and in the October table, they are scheduled as arrival 10:30 → bus 11:30, arrival 16:15 → bus 17:15.

This does not mean that entry will always take the same amount of time. After October 25th, check back in the table for the new coverage period.

Kotoden informs you that airport departures will be adjusted according to flight arrivals and baggage pickup, and states that times may vary due to international flight delays. If the seats are full, the next bus may be required. Connection to JR, Kotoden, and ships is not guaranteed.. If you are late, ask about the actual final destination and remaining buses before boarding.

Last buses and last sailings are separate

Even if the last bus to the port arrives at 20:03 as scheduled, it will only be 17 minutes until the last ferry to Tonosho at 20:20. Considering baggage claim, ticketing, and waiting for boarding, connection cannot be guaranteed. The 20:30 Naoshima High-Speed Line also does not connect automatically, and the last departure to Teshima (18:03) has already departed.

Check the destination island, port and travel date, and if your flight is late, consider staying in the city and travelling the next day.

If the bus is over, check the official taxi stand and reserved vehicles. Ask your accommodation when late check-in is possible and have your address ready. Check the remaining walking sections, luggage movement, crosswalks, and elevator usage times at stations and ports, but do not arbitrarily expect pickup from your accommodation or late-night vehicle availability.

Official transportation purchase and reservation information

For airport bus and ship tickets, you can check how to purchase them in the operator's official information below. Below is official information, not an affiliate link. Airport bus tickets are issued on-site and paid for on-board; for ships, purchase at each ticket office; for pre-booked vehicles, check the reservation conditions directly with the company.

The boarding location is different for regular taxis and pre-booked vehicles.

Use the ordinary taxi rank in front of the information centre. For booked/app-dispatched cars, cross to the separate reserved-taxi area in the front car park and match the company/vehicle number.

Official meter estimates, as of update on March 16, 2026, are from about 6,300 yen for stations, about 6,000 yen for Kawaramachi, and about 5,400 yen for park east gates, and vary depending on the route, waiting time and destination.

Flat-rate taxis are priced at 5,200, 5,800, and 6,000 yen depending on the area, and night fares for journeys entirely within 22:00–05:00 are priced at 6,240, 6,960, and 7,200 yen. Do not apply the same flat rate to all hotels around the station. Before making a reservation, please check the address zone, vehicle type, number of luggage, flight number, delay notification, additional stops, restrictions on changes outside the zone, tolls, waiting fees, cancellation conditions, and the final total amount.

Rental cars go to the collection office after reception on the 1st floor.

The official airport information states that after applying at the rental car counter in the arrival lobby on the 1st floor, free transportation to and from each airport office is provided. Business hours vary from company to company, so don't assume you can get your car until the last bus.

Before making a reservation, check the acceptable driver's license/documents, reception time in case of flight delay, and allowable conditions for insurance, return, parking, and taking the car to the island.

Rail passes or island sightseeing tours were not introduced instead of airport bus and ship tickets. If you have a pass, make sure to make separate reservations for the sections actually covered, and do not assume that buses and ships are included.

Takamatsu Airport transport FAQ

How do I get from Takamatsu Airport to JR Takamatsu Station?

Prepare payment in 1F arrivals and take the Kotoden limousine from airport stop 2. Alight at Takamatsu Station stop 6: JPY 1,300, about fifty minutes in the October timetable. Entry formalities, waiting and the hotel walk are additional.

Where should I alight for Kawaramachi hotels?

Use Kawaramachi stop 5, west of the station: JPY 1,000, about 35 minutes. Follow your hotel address from the bus terminal. A Central Park or Hyogo-machi stop may suit other hotels better.

Do I need to reserve the airport bus?

Regular passengers use unreserved seats without reservations. If full, take the next bus. Wheelchair-lift vehicles have separate reservation conditions; ask the operator.

How do I pay?

Put a machine ticket in the fare box or pay cash on alighting. The change machine accepts coins and JPY 1,000 notes. IruCa, nationwide IC and supported bank-card users tap the same card on both boarding and alighting. Check each ticket machine’s payment symbols.

Are JR Takamatsu and Takamatsu-Chikko the same station?

No. JR uses the Takamatsu station building/gates. Kotoden uses separate Takamatsu-Chikko Station east towards Chuo-dori/Tamamo Park. The airport-bus stop is not a rail platform.

How do I reach Ritsurin Garden?

Alight at Ritsurin Koenmae: JPY 1,000, about 28 minutes, then about one minute walking to the East Gate. Kotoden Ritsurin-Koen is about seven minutes from that gate; JR Ritsurin-Koen-Kitaguchi about three minutes from the North Gate. There is no direct airport train.

Can I go straight to Takamatsu Port?

Only departures with a time in the ferry-terminal column call there. In the 1–24 October 2026 table, the last port bus is airport 19:10→port 20:03. The final 21:45 city bus ends at the station. From JR, walk to the individual operator’s ticket office and pier.

Can I reach Naoshima on arrival day?

Only with enough time for entry, baggage, bus waiting, the port walk, ticketing and boarding. The regular Miyanoura timetable lists the final ferry at 18:05 and high-speed boat at 20:30. Tickets for 20:30 are sold by crew at pier 3. Delays, capacity and disruption prevent guaranteed connections; keep a city-hotel alternative.

Do ferries and high-speed boats use the same pier?

No. Naoshima Miyanoura/Shodoshima Tonosho ferries use assigned piers 1/2; their high-speed boats use pier 3. Teshima Ieura uses pier 4 and a separate ticket office approach. The Sakate jumbo ferry uses a different terminal.

Can I bring a large suitcase?

Load/unload airport-bus hold luggage yourself and keep valuables/fragile items with you. Unlimited size/quantity allowances across buses and boats are not confirmed. Ask the operator about large/multiple bags, especially on high-speed vessels.

What if delays cause me to miss the last bus or boat?

Kotoden adjusts airport departures for flight arrivals/baggage but does not guarantee onward trains or boats. Confirm remaining buses on site. If sailings have finished, consider Takamatsu overnight and travel the following day. If buses finish too, ask the official taxi/booked operator and confirm late hotel check-in.
