Takamatsu Airport to the city, Ritsurin Garden and port

Choose Takamatsu Station for JR connections or nearby hotels, Kawaramachi for hotels there, or Ritsurin Koen Mae for the garden. For an island trip, check whether your airport bus continues to the port, then find your boat's ticket office and pier. Ordinary foot-passenger tickets generally do not reserve a sailing.

Arrivals → ticket or payment card → airport bay 2

  1. After immigration and baggage claim, enter the first-floor arrivals lobby. Look for bus ticket machines and bus signs (バス). There is no airport railway station.
  2. Buy a ticket for your stop, or prepare cash or a supported card with sufficient balance. Check the payment methods printed on the ticket machine.
  3. Outside, go to bay 2 for Takamatsu city (高松市内方面). Kotoden Bus · ことでんバス operates the airport limousine. Check the Takamatsu Station (高松駅) and Ferry Terminal (フェリーターミナル) columns: not every bus continues to the port.
  4. The driver opens the lower luggage compartment, but you load and unload your own suitcase. Keep valuables and fragile items with you, and collect your bags at your stop.

Paper tickets and cash on exit; cards on boarding and exit

Put a paper ticket or cash in the fare box when getting off. The onboard change machine accepts coins and ¥1,000 bills, not large bills. For IruCa, supported nationwide transit IC cards such as Suica and ICOCA, or supported contactless credit/debit cards, tap the same card when boarding and exiting. Do not pay again by card if you already bought a paper ticket.

Ordinary seats are unreserved. If the bus is full, you may need the next departure. Check separate booking requirements for wheelchair-lift vehicles. Kotoden Bus inquiries: 087-821-3033, weekdays 9:00–17:00.

Takamatsu Station hotels and JR connections

Takamatsu Station · 高松駅
Takamatsu-Chikko Station · 高松築港駅

  1. Prepare a ¥1,300 ticket or payment card and go to airport bay 2.
  2. Take a bus serving Takamatsu Station. The ride takes about 50 minutes, passing Kawaramachi, Hyogomachi, Takamatsu-Chikko and JR Hotel Clement.
  3. Get off at station bay 6. The return airport bus uses bay 3, not arrival bay 6.
  4. For JR, walk southwest from the bus terminal to the JR Takamatsu Station building, buy your ticket and enter the JR gates. Check the departure board for your platform and train. For a hotel, stay outside the gates and use its address for walking directions.

Kotoden trains use a different station

For Kotoden, walk east from the JR station plaza toward Chuo-dori · 中央通り and Tamamo Park · 玉藻公園 to Takamatsu-Chikko Station. It has separate fares and gates. If you are taking Kotoden, you can also get off earlier at Takamatsu-Chikko bus bay 8 and follow the crossings and station signs. The JR gates do not lead to Kotoden trains.

For Kawaramachi hotels, get off at bay 5 west of the station

Kawaramachi Station · 瓦町駅

  1. Prepare a ¥1,000 ticket or payment card and board the city-bound bus at airport bay 2.
  2. After Ritsurin Koen Mae and Nakajincho, get off at Kawaramachi bay 5. The ride takes about 35 minutes.
  3. From the west-side bus terminal, follow your hotel's address. Shopping-district hotels west of the station and properties east of the railway require different walks. Use station signs and elevators if you need to cross the station.

Nakajincho · 中新町 and Kencho Chuo Koen Mae · 県庁中央公園前 cost ¥1,000; Hyogomachi · 兵庫町 costs ¥1,300. A hotel near Central Park or Hyogomachi may be closer to another stop. Check the address before choosing Kawaramachi.

  1. Prepare a ¥1,000 ticket or payment card and board at airport bay 2.
  2. Get off at Ritsurin Koen Mae after about 28 minutes. City-bound buses stop on the garden side.
  3. Follow the garden fence and East Gate signs (東門) to the ticket office. The official tourism guide gives a walk of about one minute. The map marks the gate approach, not the center of the garden.

Similarly named railway stations lead to different gates

Kotoden Ritsurin-Koen Station · 栗林公園駅 is southeast of the East Gate, about a seven-minute walk away. JR Ritsurin-Koen-Kitaguchi Station · 栗林公園北口駅 is about three minutes from the North Gate. JR Ritsurin Station · 栗林駅 is another station, about a 15-minute walk from the garden. None has a direct rail connection from the airport; you would first need a bus into the city. For a direct garden visit, the airport bus stop is simpler.

October opening hours are 6:00–17:30. A late bus arrival does not extend admission hours. East and north gate lockers have size and availability limits; official storage for bags that do not fit costs ¥400 per item. Allow time to collect your luggage.

Takamatsu Port: find the ticket office for your boat

Takamatsu Port · 高松港
Ferry Terminal · フェリーターミナル

  1. Prepare a ¥1,300 ticket or supported payment card and go to airport bay 2.
  2. Choose a bus with an arrival time in the フェリーターミナル column. The ride takes about 53 minutes via Takamatsu Station. A blank column means the bus does not continue to the port.
  3. Get off and collect your bags. For ferries, follow the northern ferry ticket-office signs and piers 1 or 2; for high-speed boats, use the separate eastern ticket office and piers 3 or 4. There is no single counter serving every boat and island.
  4. If your bus ends at Takamatsu Station, walk northeast toward Sunport (サンポート). The operator gives about five minutes from JR Takamatsu to the port; add time for leaving the bus, crossings, tickets and reaching your actual pier.

Ferries: ticket office → assigned pier 1 or 2

Choose Naoshima Miyanoura or Shodoshima Tonosho at the ferry ticket office. Check your ticket and departure board for the assigned pier, 1 or 2; it is not fixed to the same number for every sailing.

Ticket purchase, reservations and bags vary by operator

  • Naoshima: ordinary passengers board first come, first served, without general reservations or advance sales. Ticket sales start 40 minutes before a ferry or 30 minutes before a high-speed boat. For the last 20:30 high-speed departure, buy from the crew at pier 3 rather than waiting at the closed ferry counter. High-speed boats accept cash only; ferry machines accept credit cards. Unused tickets refunded within their validity period carry a ¥200 adult fee.
  • Teshima: spring-to-fall schedules apply March 20–November 30; winter schedules apply December 1–March 19. Service patterns vary by day, including museum-closure Tuesdays, but the 18:03 direct departure is listed daily in the reviewed spring-to-fall schedule. The fare is ¥1,450 in cash. Ticket sales start 20 minutes ahead; reservations are not available. Ask the counter or crew about a same-day refund. Capacity is 70, and a full boat may leave you unable to board.
  • Shodoshima Tonosho: ferry and high-speed foot passengers board first come, first served without reservations. Vehicle web bookings have separate conditions. The weekday 15:10 ferry carries dangerous goods and does not accept general passengers; check weekend, holiday and operating notices. The unused-ticket refund fee is ¥200 per ticket.
  • Ferries can carry cars; high-speed boats cannot. Bicycles are not allowed on the Tonosho high-speed service. Ask each operator about suitcase size, count, storage and any charge; bus luggage-compartment rules do not establish boat allowances.

As an editorial planning suggestion, aim to reach the port 30–60 minutes before your desired sailing to allow for bus delays, ticket lines and the walk to the pier. This is not a shared operator boarding deadline or a guaranteed connection. Even arriving before ticket sales open may involve a line. Keep a Takamatsu hotel alternative in mind for a tight last-sailing plan.

Last airport buses and delayed arrivals

For October 1–24, 2026, the last scheduled city-bound airport bus is 21:45 → Ritsurin Koenmae 22:13 → Kawaramachi 22:20 → Takamatsu Chikko 22:30 → Takamatsu Station 22:35. Its ferry-terminal column is blank, so it ends at the station. The last port-bound bus is 19:10 → Port 20:03, and neither departure has a day-of-week restriction.

Other international-flight-linked departures have day restrictions, such as Friday only or Sunday/Tuesday/Friday. The October table separately lists Seoul-flight connections as flight arrival 10:30 → bus 11:30 and arrival 16:15 → bus 17:15. These are the actual listed connections, not US-origin services.

These scheduled gaps do not establish how long arrival formalities will take for every passenger. For October 25 onward, use the new timetable period.

Kotoden informs you that airport departures are adjusted according to flight arrivals and baggage pickup, and states that times may vary due to international flight delays. If the bus is full, you may need the next bus. Connections to JR, Kotoden trains or ferries are not guaranteed. If you are late, ask about the actual final destination and remaining bus departures before boarding.

The last bus may be too late for your ferry

A scheduled 20:03 port arrival leaves only 17 minutes before the 20:20 Tonosho ferry. Collecting bags from the bus, buying a ticket and reaching the pier take time, so this connection is not guaranteed. Nor is the 20:30 Naoshima high-speed boat guaranteed; the last Teshima departure at 18:03 is already too early.

Check the destination island/arrival port and travel date, and if your flight is late, consider staying in the city and traveling the next day.

If buses have finished, check the official taxi stand and reserved vehicles. Ask your accommodation when late check-in is possible and have your address ready. Check the remaining walk, crossings and elevator hours at the station or port. Do not assume your hotel provides a late-night pickup.

Official tickets and reservations

These links go to the operators, not affiliate products. Buy an airport-bus ticket on site or use an accepted onboard payment method. For a boat, use its operator's ticket office or the crew where specified. Book reserved vehicles directly under the operator's conditions.

The boarding location is different for regular taxis and pre-booked vehicles

Regular taxis use the official pick-up point in front of the Information Center. For pre-booked/app-called vehicles, cross the crosswalk and check the vehicle number with the company at the separate reservation taxi area in the front parking lot.

Official meter estimates, as of update on March 16, 2026, are from about ¥6,300 for Takamatsu Station, about 6,000 yen for Kawaramachi, and about 5,400 yen for park east gates, and vary depending on the actual route, traffic and destination.

Reserved flat fares are ¥5,200, ¥5,800 or ¥6,000 by eligible area. For trips made entirely within 22:00–05:00, the listed late-night fares are ¥6,240, ¥6,960 or ¥7,200. Do not apply one flat fare to every station-area hotel. Before making a reservation, please check the address zone, vehicle type, number of bags, flight number, delay notification, additional stops, restrictions on changes outside the zone, tolls, waiting fees, cancellation conditions, and the final total amount.

Rental cars: first-floor counter, then a shuttle to the office

Check in at your company's counter in the first-floor arrivals lobby. The airport lists free shuttles between the terminal and rental offices. Business hours vary from company to company, so don't assume you can pick up a car as late as the final bus departure.

Before booking, check accepted driving documents, pickup deadlines and delay procedures, insurance, return rules, parking and permission to take the car to an island.

A rail pass or island sightseeing tour is not a substitute for these airport bus and ferry tickets. Check the exact services your pass covers; do not assume airport buses or ferries are included.

Takamatsu Airport Transportation, Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Takamatsu Station?

Prepare a ticket or payment method in first-floor arrivals and board a Kotoden limousine at airport bay 2. Get off at Takamatsu Station bay 6. The adult fare is ¥1,300 and the October timetable gives about 50 minutes. Add arrival formalities, waiting and the hotel walk.

Where should I get off for a Kawaramachi hotel?

Take a city-bound limousine at airport bay 2 and get off at Kawaramachi bay 5: ¥1,000, about 35 minutes. The stop is at the station's west-side bus terminal. Check your hotel's address; Central Park or Hyogomachi may be closer to another stop.

Do I need to reserve the bus?

General Kotoden limousine seats are unreserved. If full, you may need the next departure. Wheelchair-lift vehicles have separate booking conditions.

How do I pay the bus fare?

Put a machine-bought paper ticket or cash in the fare box when exiting. The change machine takes coins and ¥1,000 bills. For IruCa, supported nationwide transit IC cards or supported bank-card contactless, tap the same card when boarding and exiting. Check the machine's signs for accepted payment methods when buying a paper ticket.

Are JR Takamatsu and Takamatsu-Chikko the same station?

No. JR trains use the gates inside JR Takamatsu Station. Kotoden trains use Takamatsu-Chikko, east of the JR plaza toward Chuo-dori and Tamamo Park. The airport bus arrival bay is not a rail platform.

How do I get to Ritsurin Garden?

Take a city-bound limousine to Ritsurin Koen Mae: ¥1,000, about 28 minutes, then about one minute on foot to the East Gate under the official guidance. Kotoden Ritsurin-Koen Station is about seven minutes from the East Gate; JR Ritsurin-Koen-Kitaguchi is about three minutes from the North Gate.

Does every airport bus continue to Takamatsu Port?

No. Only buses with an arrival time in the ferry-terminal column continue there. For October 1–24, 2026, the last port-bound bus is airport 19:10 → port 20:03. The last city-bound departure at 21:45 ends at the station. From there, walk to your boat's ticket office and pier.

Can I reach Naoshima on my arrival day?

Only if you have time for arrival formalities, the bus, the port walk, tickets and boarding. The reviewed regular timetable's last Miyanoura ferry is 18:05 and last high-speed boat is 20:30. For the 20:30 boat, crew sell tickets at pier 3. Delays, full capacity or suspension can break the connection; keep a city-hotel backup.

Do ferries and high-speed boats use the same pier?

No. Naoshima Miyanoura and Shodoshima Tonosho ferries use assigned piers 1 or 2; their high-speed boats use pier 3. Teshima Ferry to Ieura uses pier 4. Ticket offices also differ. Jumbo Ferry to Sakate uses a different terminal.

Can I bring a large suitcase?

Load and retrieve your own bags from the limousine's lower luggage compartment and keep valuables with you. Unlimited sizes or quantities have not been established for buses or boats. Ask each operator about large or multiple items, especially on a high-speed boat.

What if a delay causes me to miss the last bus or boat?

Kotoden adjusts airport departures for flight arrivals and baggage collection, but does not guarantee onward trains or boats. Ask which buses remain. If boats have finished, consider staying in Takamatsu and sailing the next day. If buses have finished, check the official taxi stand or reserved car and confirm hotel check-in.

Official sources and confirmation dates

The sources below were checked on 2026-10-05. Regular timetables and fares differ from the actual operation status on the day. Confirm your travel date, direction and arrival port with the operator. Suggested connection buffers and city hotel alternatives are editorial travel guidance.
