Toyama Station · 富山駅 has two distinct sides. The south exit faces Toyama Castle and the city centre; the north exit is closer to Kansui Park. Check your hotel's address before deciding where to walk after getting off.
Journey times below are time on board. Allow extra time for immigration, baggage collection, waiting, rental-car collection and the walk to your hotel. Route 36 timings refer to the airport-departure timetable valid until 24 October 2026. Traffic and snow can lengthen bus journeys.

From arrivals to the Toyama Station bus
- Finish arrival procedures and go to 1F. On an international arrival, collect your bags and clear immigration and customs first. Follow signs towards the domestic terminal and bus stop 1 outside 1F. This is a floor and stop number, not “Domestic Terminal 1”.
- Prepare your fare. The direct airport bus accepts supported contactless Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners, Discover and UnionPay cards or devices. Tap when getting off; do not tap when boarding. This card payment is not available on the regular route 36 bus.
- Check for Toyama Station, 富山駅前. Toyama Chiho Railway operates both the direct bus and regular route 36. Even the direct bus calls at Sogawa · 総曲輪, Joshi Koen-mae · 城址公園前 and Toyama City Hall · 富山市役所前 before the station. “Direct” does not mean non-stop.
- On a regular bus, board through the middle or rear door and take a numbered ticket if paying cash. At your stop, check the fare display and put the ticket and exact fare into the front fare box. Change notes into coins while the bus is stopped; the fare box does not give change.
- Get off at Toyama Station and collect your bags. Follow JR signs through the south plaza for JR services, or 電鉄富山 on the east side for Dentetsu Toyama. Use the public north–south passage if your hotel is north of the station.
The local ecomyca card is different from nationwide transport IC cards. Suica, ICOCA and PASMO are not accepted on regular buses. Carry JPY 1,000 notes or coins: airport buses and the airport ticket machines do not accept notes of JPY 2,000 or more. Multi-ride tickets were discontinued on 1 October.
The operator does not publish an advance seat-reservation service for this route. Direct buses have seated capacity only; you may be unable to board if full. Published information does not confirm suitcase dimensions, quantities or guaranteed luggage-hold space for every vehicle. For large luggage or a group, call 076-432-3456 on weekdays, 08:30–17:30, before travelling.

Find the correct side of Toyama Station
Paid airport buses end on the south side at Toyama Station. Stop 6 is the departure stop for buses going to the airport; it is not a confirmed arrival bay. Follow the driver and signs for the actual drop-off point.
- JR and Shinkansen: enter from the south plaza and follow JR/新幹線 signs to the correct gate. The tram platforms under the station are separate.
- Hotels south of the station: start walking directions from the bus terminal to the hotel's address. Use crossings, and consider dropping your bags at the hotel before sightseeing.
- North-side hotels and Kansui Park: use the public north–south passage, without entering the JR paid area. The Taipei-only free bus already drops you on this side.
- Tateyama trains: follow 電鉄富山 towards the Esta building east of the south plaza. Dentetsu Toyama has its own entrance and ticket facilities. Check the platform and gate on the day rather than assuming an unverified floor number.

Change at Dentetsu Toyama for Tateyama
Dentetsu Toyama Station · 電鉄富山駅 / Tateyama Station · 立山駅
- Take the airport bus to Toyama Station's south side, then walk east to Dentetsu Toyama.
- Buy a separate ticket to 立山 and check the day's departures. A JR ticket or airport-bus ticket does not cover this local railway.
- Choose a direct Tateyama train, or change at Terada Station · 寺田駅 if the journey planner specifies it. Not every train goes to Tateyama.
- At Tateyama, follow the Alpine Route ticket-collection and cable-car signs. Allow time between leaving the train platform and boarding the cable car.
The 15 April–3 November connection table includes a daily direct train, Dentetsu Toyama 13:00 → Tateyama 14:13. The weekday 13:50 → 14:55 and holiday 14:00 → 15:13 trains are examples of the last rail connections before the 15:40 Murodo cable car, not the railway's last trains of the day. Tateyama Station is not Murodo
Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route · 立山黒部アルペンルート / Murodo · 室堂
At Tateyama Station, take the cable car to Bijodaira · 美女平, then the highland bus to Murodo. The Alpine Route has several transport stages; Murodo is an intermediate destination. This is not a direct airport ticket to Murodo or Kurobe Dam.
The 2026 timetables are divided into 15 April–3 November and 4–30 November. Do not apply them to December. The Tateyama–Ogizawa–Shinano-Omachi section is scheduled to close after 30 November and reopen in mid-April 2027. From 11 November, Bijodaira–Murodo buses run non-stop, without intermediate stops. The last cable car towards Murodo moves to 15:00 on 4–10 November and 13:50 on 11–30 November. Snow may cause closures or further changes. Seasonal timetables ↗
For online tickets, check the departure station, time, included sections and collection process. Local-rail inclusion depends on the product; the airport bus is not automatically included. A flight delay does not automatically entitle you to a change or refund. Official booking and collection ↗
Taxis, pre-booked pickups and rental cars
- After arrivals, use taxi stand 2 outside domestic-terminal 1F, or the meeting point on your pickup confirmation.
- Show the Japanese address of your hotel or Toyama Station and state passenger and suitcase numbers. Confirm cash or card payment and the estimated total before setting off.
- Collect your bags at the hotel entrance and pay as directed by the driver or operator.
The airport's destination table gives about 20 minutes to Toyama Station; its introduction also mentions 15 minutes. This guide uses the table's 20-minute figure. No current official fixed price range was confirmed. Ask for a quote including late-night supplements, tolls and booked-vehicle waiting charges.
The airport lists Toyama Kotsu, 076-421-1122; Daiwa Kotsu, 076-421-8181; and the private taxi cooperative, 076-423-8877. For a booking, give your flight, arrival time, hotel address and luggage count, and confirm delay waiting, contact and cancellation terms. Official taxi contacts ↗
Rental-car desks are beside domestic arrivals on 1F
The airport lists Toyota, Nissan, Nippon Rent-A-Car and Orix. Go to the desk for your booked airport branch with the required driving documents, booking confirmation and payment method. Confirm insurance, winter equipment and the vehicle-collection location. Number 4 on the airport diagram identifies the rental reception desk, not a universal car-collection bay.
Set your destination to the hotel's car-park entrance. Rental collection, parking, fuel and tolls add time and cost compared with a bus or taxi. Check date- and vehicle-specific prices on the operator's booking screen. Rental-car desks and operators ↗
Last buses, delayed flights and winter travel
- 1 April–24 October 2026: last scheduled direct bus, airport 20:35 → Toyama Station 20:58.
- 25 October 2026–27 March 2027: airport 20:50 → Toyama Station 21:13.
- These last scheduled direct departures are the same on weekdays and holidays. Regular route 36 uses different weekday and holiday times. The holiday table applies on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, 13–16 August and 29 December–3 January.
The direct bus normally checks for passengers about 10 minutes after its linked flight arrives, and departure may change after a delay. This does not guarantee unlimited waiting or waiting until international immigration finishes. Check the linked flight and the driver's instructions. Toyama Airport transport FAQ
How do I get from Toyama Airport to Toyama Station?
Take the Toyama Chiho Railway bus to Toyama Station from stop 1 outside domestic-terminal 1F. The direct bus takes about 23 minutes; regular route 36 takes about 25–34 minutes in the published timetable. Both cost JPY 470 one way for an adult. Arrival formalities, waiting and walking are extra.
Do I need to reserve the airport bus?
The operator does not publish an advance seat-reservation service for this route. Direct buses have seated capacity only, and you may be unable to board if full. For groups or large luggage, ask 076-432-3456 in advance.
How do I pay for the bus?
On the direct bus, tap a supported contactless payment card when getting off, without tapping at boarding. This card payment does not apply to regular route 36. Cash passengers take a numbered ticket and pay at exit. Suica, ICOCA and PASMO are not accepted on regular buses; carry JPY 1,000 notes or coins.
Which side of Toyama Station does the airport bus reach?
Paid airport buses end on the south side. Stop 6 is the airport-bound departure stop, not a confirmed arrival bay. The separate free bus for eligible Taipei arrivals reaches the north exit. Follow the driver for the actual drop-off.
Are JR Toyama and Dentetsu Toyama the same station?
They are separate boarding points. JR Toyama has JR and Shinkansen gates. For Tateyama, walk east from the south plaza to Dentetsu Toyama and use its own ticket facilities. The nearby Dentetsu-Toyama-Esta-mae tram stop is also different from the railway platform.
Can I walk from Toyama Station to Kansui Park?
Official tourism guidance gives about 10 minutes from the north exit. From the south-side bus drop-off, first cross the public north–south passage. That crossing and any further exploration inside the park add time.
How do I reach Toyama Castle Park?
From the airport bus, get off at Joshi Koen-mae, city-bound stop 8, and walk to the park. From Toyama Station south exit, the walk is about 10 minutes. Alternatively, take the loop tram from platform 3 to International Conference Center: about 7 minutes on board, then 2 minutes on foot. Ask the bus driver to confirm your stop.
Can I take a large suitcase on the airport bus?
Published information does not confirm universal suitcase limits or guaranteed luggage-hold access. Direct and regular buses may have different space. Ask the operator or driver; for a booked vehicle, provide suitcase and passenger numbers before accepting a quote.
What happens if I miss the last airport bus?
The last scheduled direct departure is 20:35 until 24 October 2026, then 20:50 from 25 October to 27 March 2027. The bus checks for passengers about 10 minutes after its linked flight arrives and may adjust its departure after a delay; unlimited waiting is not guaranteed. After service ends, use taxi stand 2 or an official operator and tell your hotel you will arrive late.
Can I visit the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route on arrival day?
It depends on your date, landing time, booked departure and return connection. Take the bus, walk to Dentetsu Toyama, take a separate train to Tateyama, then change to the cable car and highland bus. For 15 April–3 November, the last Murodo connection leaves Tateyama at 15:40, but the usual last return leaves Murodo at 16:20. Those departures cannot form a return trip. From 4 November, use the winter timetable.
Where can I check winter transport conditions?
Check Toyama Airport flight status, Toyama Chiho Railway bus, rail and tram notices, and Alpine Route operating notices separately. Snow or wind forecasts alone do not confirm a closure. Allow extra time for station walks and bags.
