Toyama Airport to Toyama Station and Tateyama connections

If you are staying near Toyama Station, take the bus bound for Toyama Station from platform 1 outside the first floor of the domestic terminal. The direct ride takes about 23 minutes and costs 470 yen one way for adults. To go to Tateyama, you need to get off at the south side of Toyama Station, walk to Dentetsu Toyama Station, and then transfer to a separate train. There is no railway station at Toyama Airport.

From the arrival hall to the Toyama Station bus

  1. Finish arrival procedures on the first floor. International passengers first complete immigration, baggage claim and customs. Follow signs toward the domestic area: the paid station bus uses bay 1 outside the domestic terminal’s first floor.
  2. Prepare payment for the service you will board. Direct services accept supported contactless Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners, Discover and UnionPay cards or compatible phone payments. Tap only when getting off. This bank-card payment does not apply to ordinary route 36 buses.
  3. At bay 1, check the destination 富山駅前 for Toyama Station. The timetable distinguishes direct services, 直行, from ordinary route 36, 36系統. The operator is Toyama Chiho Railway · 富山地方鉄道. “Direct” does not mean entirely nonstop: city stops include Sogawa, Castle Park and City Hall.
  4. For a cash-paid ordinary bus, board through the middle or rear door and take a numbered ticket. On exit, check the fare display and put the ticket and fare in the front fare box. It does not give change; use the change machine while the bus is stopped.
  5. Get off at Toyama Station and collect your bags. For JR, follow JR signs into the station from the south plaza. For Tateyama, follow 電鉄富山 toward the separate Dentetsu Toyama Station east of the plaza. For a north-side hotel, use the station’s public passage.

The local bus card ecomyca is not the same as a nationwide transit IC card. Ordinary buses do not accept Suica, ICOCA or PASMO. Bring 1,000-yen bills or coins: the airport-line bus and airport ticket machine do not accept bills of 2,000 yen or more. The old multiple-ride coupon tickets were abolished October 1.

The public airport-line guidance does not provide an advance seat-reservation process. Direct services have a seated capacity limit and may refuse boarding when full. Published suitcase size, quantity and trunk limits were not confirmed. For large bags or a group, call 076-432-3456 on weekdays, 08:30–17:30.

At Toyama Station: south side, north side and separate rail gates

Paid airport buses finish south of Toyama Station · 富山駅. Airport-bound bay 6 is for the return trip, not a confirmed arrival bay. The public information does not identify a specific incoming drop-off bay; follow the driver and on-site signs.

  • JR trains and Shinkansen: enter from the south plaza and follow JR / 新幹線 signs to your gates. The tram platforms inside the station are not JR platforms.
  • South-side hotels: begin walking directions from the bus terminal to your hotel’s entrance, using marked crosswalks.
  • North-side hotels and Kansui Park: use the north–south public passage, 南北自由通路, without entering JR’s ticket gates. The eligible Taipei free bus already arrives on this side.
  • Tateyama trains: follow 電鉄富山 toward the Esta building east of the south plaza. Dentetsu Toyama has separate ticketing and gates; use the day’s signs rather than an unconfirmed platform number.

Getting to Toyama Castle Park

Toyama Castle Park · 富山城址公園

Walk from the station’s south side

From the south plaza, head toward the city and the park’s northern approach beside the Matsukawa River. The tourism guide gives about ten minutes from South Exit. Add the walk from the bus arrival area and allow extra time for crossings, bags or snow.

Take the loop tram

At Toyama Station tram stop · 富山駅 under the elevated tracks, use loop-line platform 3 for a service labeled 環状線. Get off at International Conference Center · 国際会議場前. The tourism guide gives about seven minutes on the tram and two minutes walking north to the park’s southern approach.

The adult tram fare is 240 yen. Board through the middle or rear door without a numbered ticket, then pay on exit through the front. Cash requires the exact amount. Nationwide transit IC cards are accepted on the tram; follow its reader instructions. This differs from ordinary buses’ IC-card restrictions.

To visit directly from the airport, ask the driver about getting off at Joshi Koen-mae · 城址公園前, incoming stop 8, and walking into the park. The airport-bound stop with the same name is stop 5. If already at the station, compare walking with waiting for a bus, and check the selected local route’s fare and departure. Airport-origin stop sequence ↗ · Official park access ↗

Kansui Park: start from North Exit

If your bus arrives south of the station, cross the north–south public passage first. From the north plaza, walk north toward the fountain and paths at the park’s southern end. Reaching the canal and Tenmon Bridge within the park adds walking time.

The tourism guide gives about ten minutes from North Exit, not from the paid airport-bus drop-off on the south side. With luggage or snow, consider a hotel luggage drop-off first. Official access from North Exit ↗

For Tateyama, transfer at Dentetsu Toyama Station

Dentetsu Toyama Station · 電鉄富山駅 / Tateyama Station · 立山駅

  1. After the airport bus reaches Toyama Station’s south side, walk east to Dentetsu Toyama.
  2. Buy a separate ticket for Tateyama, labeled 立山, and check the departure board. A JR ticket or airport-bus fare does not cover this railway.
  3. Choose a direct Tateyama train, or transfer at Terada Station · 寺田駅 if the journey planner shows that connection. Not every train goes to Tateyama.
  4. At Tateyama, follow your Alpine Route ticket collection and cable-car boarding instructions. Allow time between leaving the rail platform and boarding the cable car.

The April 15–November 3 connection table includes a daily direct train, Dentetsu Toyama 13:00 → Tateyama 14:13. Weekday 13:50 → 14:55 and holiday 14:00 → 15:13 are examples of the last listed rail connections arriving before the 15:40 Murodo-bound cable car. They are not the railway’s last trains of the day. Check the current rail fare and later ordinary trains for your date; no unverified fare has been added to an estimated total. Rail route and fare search ↗ · Alpine Route connection timetable ↗

Tateyama Station is not Murodo

Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route · 立山黒部アルペンルート / Murodo · 室堂

From Tateyama Station, take the cable car to Bijodaira · 美女平, then the highland bus to Murodo. The Alpine Route joins several modes of transportation, with Murodo an intermediate destination. It is not a direct airport-to-Murodo or airport-to-Kurobe Dam service.

The 2026 timetable has separate April 15–November 3 and November 4–30 periods; neither applies to December. The winter timetable lists service between Tateyama, Ogizawa and Shinano-Omachi through November 30, with reopening planned for mid-April 2027. From November 11, highland buses run nonstop between Bijodaira and Murodo. The last cable car connecting to Murodo moves earlier: 15:00 for November 4–10, then 13:50 for November 11–30. Snow can change or suspend service. Seasonal timetables in both directions ↗

For a web ticket, verify the departure station, time, covered section and collection process. Inclusion of Toyama Chiho Railway depends on the product; the airport bus is not automatically included. A flight delay does not automatically change or refund a reservation. Official web-ticket booking and collection ↗

Taxis, reserved pickups and rental cars

Taxi to your hotel

  1. After arrival procedures, use taxi stand 2 outside the domestic terminal’s first floor. For a reserved vehicle, use the meeting point on your confirmation.
  2. Show your hotel’s Japanese address and tell the driver your party size and bag count. Confirm payment methods and the estimated total before leaving.
  3. At the hotel entrance, collect your bags and pay according to the operator’s instructions.

The airport’s destination table gives about 20 minutes to Toyama Station; its introductory text also mentions 15 minutes. The comparison above uses the destination-table figure. A current official fare range was not confirmed, so ask for a quote including applicable nighttime, toll and waiting charges rather than relying on an invented flat price.

The airport lists Toyama Kotsu, 076-421-1122; Daiwa Kotsu, 076-421-8181; and the private taxi cooperative, 076-423-8877. Provide your flight, arrival time, address and luggage, and check delayed-flight waiting and cancellation terms. Official taxi stand and company contacts ↗

Rental counter beside the domestic arrival lobby

The airport lists Toyota, Nissan, Nippon Rent-a-Car and Orix. Go to your booked operator’s reception with your reservation, driving documents valid in Japan and required payment method. Confirm insurance, return conditions, winter equipment and the actual vehicle pickup point.

Number 4 on the airport guide marks the rental counter, not a universal pickup parking bay. Set navigation to the hotel’s parking entrance after collecting the vehicle. For a city-only stay, compare pickup time and parking costs with buses or taxis. Rental prices depend on your dates and vehicle. Official rental counters and contacts ↗

Last airport buses and winter travel

  • April 1–October 24, 2026: last scheduled direct departure, airport 20:35 → Toyama Station 20:58.
  • October 25, 2026–March 27, 2027: last scheduled direct departure, airport 20:50 → Toyama Station 21:13.
  • Both direct-bus tables give the same last departure on weekdays and holidays. Ordinary route 36 has different weekday and holiday schedules. The holiday schedule includes Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, August 13–16 and December 29–January 3.

The operator says direct buses check for passengers and depart roughly ten minutes after their linked flight arrives; a delayed aircraft can change departure time. This does not guarantee unlimited waiting or waiting for international immigration. Check the flight shown in the timetable and the day’s staff instructions. Airport-origin timetable through October 24 ↗ · Airport-origin timetable from October 25 ↗

After buses end, use taxi stand 2 or contact your reserved operator, and tell your hotel the revised arrival time. Check flights, buses, trains and the Alpine Route separately during snow or strong winds. A weather forecast alone does not establish a service cancellation or guarantee safe conditions. If the final hotel walk is difficult with bags on snow, consider a taxi for that leg.

Toyama Airport transportation FAQ

How do I get from Toyama Airport to Toyama Station?

Use bay 1 outside the domestic terminal’s first floor for a Toyama Chiho Railway bus displaying 富山駅前. The direct service takes about 23 minutes; ordinary route 36 takes about 25–34 minutes. Both cost 470 yen for an adult from October 1, 2026. Arrival procedures, waiting and the hotel walk are additional.

Do I need a bus reservation?

The public guidance does not provide an advance seat-reservation process. Direct services have a seated capacity limit and may refuse boarding when full. Check the timetable and board on site. For large bags or a group, call 076-432-3456 in advance.

Can I pay with a credit card or Suica?

The direct airport bus accepts supported contactless bank cards: tap only when getting off. This payment is not available on ordinary route 36. Ordinary buses do not accept Suica, ICOCA or PASMO. Cash passengers take a numbered ticket and pay on exit; bring 1,000-yen bills or coins.

Which side of Toyama Station does the bus arrive at?

Paid airport buses arrive south of the station. Bay 6 is for returning to the airport, not a confirmed arrival bay; follow the driver’s drop-off instructions. The separate free bus for eligible Taipei-flight passengers arrives at North Exit.

Are JR Toyama and Dentetsu Toyama the same station?

They have separate rail services and gates. JR Toyama serves JR trains and the Shinkansen. For Tateyama, walk east of the south plaza to Dentetsu Toyama, following 電鉄富山 signs, and buy the appropriate separate ticket. Tram platforms are not Tateyama train platforms.

Can I walk to Kansui Park?

The official guide gives about ten minutes from North Exit to the park’s southern approach. From a paid airport bus arriving south, first use the north–south public passage. Add that station walk and any further walk toward the canal or Tenmon Bridge.

How do I get to Toyama Castle Park?

Ask about leaving the airport bus at Joshi Koen-mae, incoming stop 8, then walking into the park. From Toyama Station South Exit, the official guide gives about a ten-minute walk. Alternatively, take the loop tram from platform 3 to International Conference Center: about seven minutes riding and two minutes walking.

Can I bring a large suitcase?

Published size, quantity and trunk-capacity limits were not confirmed for the airport bus. Ask the operator about your actual bags; do not assume direct and ordinary buses have identical luggage space. A reserved vehicle also needs sufficient space for your party and bags.

What if my flight arrives after the last bus?

The last scheduled direct bus is 20:35 through October 24, 2026, or 20:50 from October 25 through March 27, 2027. Buses may adjust to linked flight arrivals, but unlimited waiting or waiting for international immigration is not guaranteed. After service ends, use taxi stand 2 or a reserved operator and notify your hotel.

Can I visit the Alpine Route on arrival day?

It depends on your date, arrival time, reservation and return plan. Take the airport bus, walk to Dentetsu Toyama, take a separate train to Tateyama, then use the cable car and highland bus. For April 15–November 3, the final Murodo connection leaves Tateyama at 15:40 and reaches Murodo at 16:50—after the ordinary final 16:20 return departure. Those services cannot form a same-day round trip. From November 4, use the winter timetable.

Where do I check winter service conditions?

Check Toyama Airport flight information, Toyama Chiho Railway bus/train/tram notices and Alpine Route service information separately. Snow or wind forecasts alone do not establish a cancellation. Allow extra time for bags and the final walk, and consider a taxi for a difficult snowy hotel approach.
