ISG → central Ishigaki or an onward ferry

Ishigaki Airport to the city and ferry terminal

For an onward ferry, Karry Kanko route 55 runs nonstop to the port. For a city hotel or Euglena Mall, compare Azuma Bus route 4. Route 10 serves ANA InterContinental and ART HOTEL, but finishes earlier. After buses end, check a taxi to your hotel rather than assuming an evening hotel bus is available.

Painushima Ishigaki Airport · 南ぬ島石垣空港 (ISG), also called New Ishigaki Airport, is separate from Naha (OKA) and Shimojishima (SHI). Ishigaki has no railway or monorail.

Official sources checked: · Times are JST · Fares are in Japanese yen for one adult, one way unless noted.

Airport bays A/B/C share a reference pin; use the official map for precise bays. Check the ferry operators’ current schedules separately.

Azuma Bus’s direct route 14 ended on October 1, 2026. Do not rely on an older airport list or timetable that still shows it. Route 4 uses the March 2026 detailed timetable and route 10 the July 2026 table. Route 14 service-ending notice ↗

Route 4 serves Hirae · 平得, Ohama · 大浜 and Shiraho · 白保 on its city-bound trip. Airport routes heading north have different destinations.

Payment, seats and large bags

Both operators list cash and supported contactless bank cards; Suica and PASMO are not accepted. Pay Karry Kanko when boarding; QR payment is not accepted. Azuma’s cash fare box does not give change, so prepare the exact fare or use the onboard change machine.

These routes do not reserve seats. Karry Kanko’s online ticket does not secure a seat; if the bus is full, wait for the next one. A large group with multiple suitcases may not fit on the same bus. Ask about large equipment or several bags before buying. Azuma boarding rules ↗ · Karry ticket and bag conditions ↗

From arrivals to the city-bound bus bays

  1. Check your arrival terminal. For an international flight, complete immigration, baggage claim and customs before leaving the first-floor arrivals hall.
  2. Outside international arrivals, turn right toward the domestic terminal. The city bus bays are on the domestic side, not immediately outside international arrivals.
  3. Facing outward from the domestic central entrance, buses are to the left and taxis to the right. You do not cross into the regular parking lot for the bus.
  4. Use Azuma bays A/B or Karry bay C. Check the destination as well as the route number: 離島ターミナル means the ferry terminal and バスターミナル the city bus terminal. Other routes run in the opposite direction.

For a domestic arrival, collect your bags on the first floor, exit through the central entrance and turn left to the buses. You do not need the upstairs departures hall. Check on-site signs and use marked crossings.

Euglena Mall · ユーグレナモール

The official access guide gives about four minutes/280 m from the bus terminal to Ishigaki City Public Market · 石垣市公設市場 inside the mall, at Okawa 208. Route 4’s Hakubutsukan-mae · 博物館前 stop is another option, about four minutes/300 m from the market.

Karry route 55 does not stop at the mall. From the ferry terminal, the market walk is about nine minutes/650 m. These estimates end at the market, not every shop. Official market access ↗

At the port: ticket counter, then the assigned pier

Euglena Ishigaki Port Remote Island Terminal · ユーグレナ石垣港離島ターミナル is at 1 Misakicho. It is not the large cruise-ship terminal.

  1. Take Karry route 55 from bay C, or a port-serving Azuma route 4 or 10, and leave the bus at the ferry-terminal stop.
  2. Enter the passenger building and find your ferry operator’s counter or e-ticket instructions. Getting off the bus is not the end of ticketing and boarding.
  3. Confirm your booking, route and arrival port. Check whether your ticket needs counter exchange or permits direct QR boarding.
  4. Go to the pier assigned that day and follow staff instructions. No single pier number applies to every sailing.

Late route 4 services skip the port, leaving a separate walk from the bus terminal. Bus terminal → ferry-terminal entrance ↗ · Official counter and pier map ↗

Hotels outside the city center

ANA InterContinental Ishigaki Resort · ANAインターコンチネンタル石垣リゾート

Airport bays A/B → Azuma route 10 → ANA InterContinental stop → your booked building. The stop is about 21 minutes from the airport; reaching a room within the resort takes extra time. The surrounding area is Maezato · 真栄里.

Route 10’s airport departures are 08:45, 11:45, 13:45, 14:15 and 15:45, not an evening hotel service. Intermediate-stop fares differ from the port fare. ART HOTEL access ↗ · ANA guest shuttle dates and booking conditions ↗

Fusaki Beach Resort Hotel & Villas · フサキビーチリゾート ホテル&ヴィラズ on the west coast is not on route 10. Compare its shuttle conditions or a taxi. Airport reference taxi times are about 20 minutes to ANA, 25 to ART HOTEL and 30 to Fusaki; they are not guaranteed. Hotel shuttle meeting area ↗

Connecting to Taketomi or Iriomote

Airport → bus or taxi → ferry terminal → ticketing and boarding → island port. Flight and ferry bookings are separate; the airport bus does not guarantee a ferry connection.

Taketomi Island · 竹富島

Choose a sailing to Taketomi Port · 竹富港. The village or hotel transfer after arrival is separate. For a tour or activity, check whether the meeting point is the port or an agency counter.

Iriomote Island · 西表島

Uehara Port · 上原港 and Ohara Port · 大原港 are different destinations. Use the port specified by your hotel or tour. A canceled Uehara sailing does not automatically include a replacement via Ohara and an overland transfer.

Allow enough time before the ferry

  1. Immigration, customs, bags and the walk to the domestic bus area.
  2. The bus or taxi wait, including a later bus if the first is full.
  3. A roughly 30–40-minute bus ride or the taxi ride, then the terminal entrance walk.
  4. Your ticket’s exchange or check-in, restroom and bag arrangements, and the assigned pier.

Anei Tours asks passengers to reach the counter about 30 minutes before departure and complete ticket purchase at least 15 minutes before, even with a reservation. Yaeyama Kanko Ferry advises ticket purchase 30 minutes ahead and arrival at the pier 15 minutes before boarding. E-tickets and tours may have different procedures; your purchased ticket’s instructions take priority.

If you miss a sailing, ask the ferry company about later seats, changes and refunds, then notify your hotel or tour about the pickup change. After the last boat, arrange an Ishigaki stay and next-day travel separately. Your island hotel is not automatically canceled or replaced by a city hotel.

The checked timetables do not list separate weekday/weekend schedules for these three routes. Recheck temporary changes and suspensions. A flight landing before a bus departure does not guarantee time to collect bags and reach the bay.

Official taxis after buses end

Use the taxi area to the right when facing out of the domestic first-floor central entrance. The airport gives about 25 minutes and 3,500 yen to the ferry terminal as a reference, not a flat fare.

The taxi association’s outer-island maximum ordinary-car table lists 500 yen for the first 1.136 km, then 100 yen per 463 m, and 100 yen per 2 minutes 50 seconds below 10 km/h. A 20% surcharge applies 22:00–05:00. Actual approved fares, traffic, tolls and booking conditions vary; do not use Okinawa main-island rates here. Taxi fare classifications ↗

For a late-arrival booking, ask about the total estimate, payment, vehicle, extra fees and flight-delay waiting. Airport-listed dispatch contacts are Ishigaki Taxi Call Center 0980-82-4649 and Yaeyama Joint Radio 0980-83-3355. A pre-booked pickup may meet elsewhere, not in the regular taxi line. Official stand and dispatch contacts ↗

Save the hotel address and booking number, confirm late check-in and compare a ride to the door if the remaining walk with bags is long.

Rental pickup may be outside the terminal

The airport distinguishes rental pickup in the general parking lot from hotel shuttles beside it. From international arrivals, head right toward the domestic central entrance, then use marked crossings to your rental company’s designated meeting area.

OTS: an operator-specific example

OTS’s free shuttle takes you to Ishigakijima Rent-a-Car Station · 石垣島レンタカーステーション, with its counter at the right end of the building. The stated shuttle interval is 15–20 minutes and office hours 08:00–19:00. These are not every company’s hours.

For a delay, call 0980-84-4323 with your flight number and revised arrival time. Ask about the shuttle, late collection, holding the booking or next-day pickup. Confirm Japan-valid driving documents, insurance, excess/non-operation charges and return rules with your actual seller.

OTS shuttle and handover instructions ↗

Typhoons and delays: check each operator separately

An arriving flight does not prove buses or ferries are running. Check the airline flight number, airport notices, bus updates and the ferry’s specific route. A forecast alone is not evidence that a particular sailing is canceled.

Official bus, ferry and rental tickets

Airport buses, ferries, rental cars and island tours are different products. A ferry or tour booking does not by itself include airport-to-port transport.

Karry route 55: airport → ferry terminal

The operator-linked sales page sells a regular bus ticket, not a seat reservation or private pickup. Select the airport-origin direction and activate the ticket in front of the driver at boarding, not beforehand. The checked terms show 100% cancellation fees on the day and 0% the previous day; current purchase terms take priority.

Ishigaki Airport transfer FAQs

Where do I board a city bus after an international arrival?

After immigration, bags and customs, leave first-floor international arrivals and head right toward the domestic terminal. Facing outward from the domestic central entrance, buses are to the left. Follow signs for Azuma bays A/B or Karry bay C and confirm the city or ferry-terminal destination.

How does the direct port bus differ from routes 4 and 10?

Karry route 55 runs nonstop to the ferry terminal in about 30 minutes. Azuma route 4 serves city stops; route 10 serves ANA InterContinental and ART HOTEL as separate hotel stops. Route 4 departures from 19:30 onward skip the port. Azuma’s direct route 14 ended on October 1, 2026.

Where should I get off for Euglena Mall?

The public market’s official access guide gives about four minutes/280 m from the city bus terminal, or four minutes/300 m from route 4’s Hakubutsukan-mae museum stop. From Karry’s ferry-terminal drop-off, it is about nine minutes/650 m to the market. Individual shop entrances have different final walks.

Can I connect straight from my flight to a Taketomi ferry?

Landing time does not guarantee a ferry connection. Allow for immigration, bags, the bus wait and ride, the terminal walk, ticketing and the assigned pier. Flights and ferries are booked separately. Check your ferry operator’s travel-date timetable and your ticket’s boarding procedure.

Which port should I use for Iriomote Island?

Ferries leave Ishigaki’s remote-island terminal for either Uehara or Ohara on Iriomote. Use the port specified by your hotel or tour. If Uehara sailings are canceled, check with the ferry company and seller whether another port or overland transfer is available; neither is automatic.

How do I reach the city after a late arrival?

The checked last airport departure is 19:05 for Karry route 55 and 21:45 for Azuma route 4 to the city bus terminal. The latter skips the port. Arrive at the bay before departure and remember seats are not reserved. After buses end, use the official taxi area to the right of the domestic central entrance or a confirmed hotel pickup.

What if a flight delay makes me miss a ferry or rental pickup?

A flight change does not automatically change ferry, rental or hotel bookings. Ask the ferry operator about later seats, changes and refunds, and notify your hotel or tour about arrival and pickup changes. Tell the rental office your flight number and revised time and confirm collection hours. After the last boat, arrange an Ishigaki stay and next-day travel separately.

Official sources and review date

Airport, operator and facility sources were checked on 2026-10-04. Some Azuma and Yaeyama informational pages had HTTPS certificate errors at that check, so the responding original HTTP information links were retained. Payment links use the official HTTPS booking page. Where an older PDF differs from the current fare page, the current 550-yen airport fare takes priority.
