Saga Airport to Saga Station and Saga Castle

For a hotel near Saga Station, take the JPY 600 bus to Saga Station Bus Center. The nonstop service connecting with international arrivals takes about 30 minutes; the semi-express connecting with domestic arrivals takes about 35. For Saga Castle or the prefectural office, get off along the semi-express route. The nonstop requires a local-bus transfer at the station. For another city, walk from the bus center to the JR station.

Kyushu Saga International Airport · 九州佐賀国際空港 (HSG) has no railway station. Leave the terminal by bus, taxi or rental car.

From arrivals to the bus

  1. After immigration, baggage claim and customs, enter the first-floor international arrival lobby. Domestic arrivals use a separate lobby on the same floor.
  2. Prepare change or a loaded transit IC card. You pay when getting off; no advance airport ticket is needed. Ordinary credit-card payment onboard was not confirmed.
  3. The nonstop bus boards at stop 2 outside international arrivals; the semi-express boards at stop 1 outside domestic arrivals. Check both ‘直行’ (nonstop) or ‘準急’ (semi-express) and the destination.
  4. Board toward ‘佐賀駅バスセンター’, destination number 1. Number 7 is the opposite direction, back to the airport. Destination numbers and stop numbers are different.
  5. Use the rear door. Take a numbered ticket if paying cash, or tap your supported IC card on the boarding reader.
  6. Press the stop button after your stop is announced. For Hakubutsukan-mae or Kencho-mae, confirm you are on the semi-express. After the bus stops, exit at the front, paying with the numbered ticket and cash or tapping the exit reader.

The bus cannot change JPY 2,000, 5,000 or 10,000 bills. Call Saga City Bus at +81-952-23-3155 about large bags and accessibility; luggage-compartment use and step-free boarding were not confirmed for every vehicle.

From the bus center to JR and your hotel

Saga Station · 佐賀駅 and Saga Station Bus Center · 佐賀駅バスセンター are adjacent but separate. Airport buses arrive under the elevated railway on the station’s east side, not at the south station plaza.

  1. Follow ‘佐賀駅 / JR’ signs west from the bus center.
  2. Use the crossing and pass the east building of Ekimachi 1-Chome Saga · えきマチ1丁目佐賀 to enter the station’s central passage. This reverses the operator’s approximately 100-meter station-to-bus-center directions.
  3. For a train, check your ticket, any required limited-express ticket and the departure platform before entering the gates. The JR map shows platform elevators; it does not establish a step-free route from every bus bay.
  4. For a south-side hotel, use Saga Castle Exit · 佐賀城口; for the north side, use Sunrise Exit · サンライズ口. Choose the exit using your hotel’s address.

Bus-center stop 1 boards services back to the airport. It is not a guaranteed drop-off point for arriving airport buses.

Saga Castle: get off en route or transfer at the station

For Saga Castle History Museum · 佐賀城本丸歴史館, the semi-express lets you get off at Hakubutsukan-mae and walk. The nonstop bus goes to the station bus center, requiring a local-bus transfer. Neither airport service reaches the museum door.

Semi-express → Hakubutsukan-mae → Museum

At airport stop 1, board toward Saga Station Bus Center. Get off at Hakubutsukan-mae · 博物館前, about 16 minutes and JPY 550 from the airport. Walk east toward the castle’s main enclosure and museum entrance, using the linked walking route and crossings.

Hakubutsukan-mae → Museum walking route ↗

Nonstop → Bus center → Saga Castle Ruins

At airport stop 2, take the nonstop to the bus center. Use bus-center stop 3 for destination number 6, ‘佐賀城跡’. Get off at Saga Castle Ruins and walk to the museum.

The museum’s official guide lists this transfer. Add the local-bus fare, waiting and walking to the airport bus’s JPY 600 fare. Not every bus at stop 3 reaches the castle ruins: route 25 toward Wasaki uses the alternative Hakubutsukan-mae approach.

For the prefectural office, use Kencho-mae

For Saga Prefectural Government · 佐賀県庁, take the semi-express to Saga Kencho-mae · 佐賀県庁前. The airport ride is about 20 minutes and costs JPY 570. Official directions give about a one-minute walk south from the stop to the office. Several direction-specific stops share the Kencho-mae name, so locate your actual stop and crossing.

The nonstop airport bus does not stop here. Transfer at bus-center stop 3 to destination number 2 toward Kencho-mae/Saga Shrine, or another confirmed route serving Kencho-mae. A nearby hotel has its own address and entrance; plan that final walk separately.

Last buses and flight delays

The last semi-express leaves the airport at 21:45 daily → bus center 22:20. Both October 1–24, 2026 and October 25, 2026–March 27, 2027 timetables show these times. The 20:55 departure is the opposite direction, from the city to the airport.

  • October 1–24: the Seoul-linked nonstop leaves at 10:25 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday; the Taipei-linked service at 11:20 on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The later domestic-arrival semi-express is a different service.
  • Winter: the Seoul connection leaves at 10:35 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, becoming daily January 7–February 27, 2027. Taipei connections leave at 11:50 Tuesday, 12:00 Thursday and 11:10 Sunday. These are actual existing flight connections, not US-origin routes.
  • The 18:00 semi-express is a weekday trial service, not a flight-linked bus. It does not run Saturday, Sunday or public holidays; the winter timetable also excludes December 29–January 3.

The operator says flight-linked buses adjust departure for a delayed connecting flight. Domestic connections may leave about 15–20 minutes after arrival; international connections can leave later to allow for immigration. This is not unlimited waiting while you shop or exchange money. Go to the stop after leaving the lobby.

A delayed-flight policy does not guarantee a seat, service during a suspension or an onward connection. After service ends, use the official first-floor taxi stand or update your booked operator with your flight details. Confirm your hotel’s check-in deadline and address; a direct taxi can avoid a long station-to-hotel walk. Do not assume an airport hotel or overnight terminal access is available.

Taxis to Saga City are not the shared regional service

Use ‘タクシーのりば’ outside the first-floor terminal. The airport estimates about 30 minutes and JPY 4,000 per vehicle to Saga Station. This is not a fixed-rate quote; late-night charges, waiting and toll inclusion are not specified. Give the dispatcher your hotel address, arrival time and bag count, then confirm the total conditions, payment method and vehicle capacity.

For an advance booking, provide your HSG flight number, destination and contact number. Obtain the quote and cancellation and flight-delay waiting terms in writing, and confirm the meeting point against your booking and airport information. No Saga City-specific fixed-rate product was verified for this guide.

The bookable shared limousine taxi serves other designated regions, not Saga City, Saga Station or Hakata. Do not book it for a city hotel. Takeo and Ureshino conditions appear below.

Pick up a rental car east of the terminal

Leave arrivals and find your company’s counter at the rental-car terminal, ‘レンタカーターミナル’, east of the passenger terminal. The airport lists Toyota, Nippon, Orix, Nissan, Avis/Budget and Times. Confirm your company’s pickup location, hours and late-arrival policy.

  1. Match your booking to your HSG flight, pickup time, bag count and vehicle size.
  2. Before booking, confirm that your driving documents meet Japan’s requirements. At pickup, present the required passport and license documents and review payment and insurance.
  3. Set your hotel’s parking address or the museum parking lot as the destination, rather than simply ‘Saga City’. Follow the car’s navigation and current road signs.
  4. Confirm parking fees, height limits, fuel policy and return location. A rental-car quote is separate from the bus fare.

The airport’s approximately 30-minute taxi ride to the station is only a driving-time reference. Rental paperwork, vehicle inspection and parking take extra time. A conditional campaign rate is not the standard price for every visitor.

Other destinations: Fukuoka, Takeo and Ureshino

Hakata: Take the airport bus to the bus center, walk to JR Saga Station and board for Hakata Station · 博多駅. JR fares and any limited-express ticket cost extra. Confirm the onward departure and last train with JR Kyushu. A currently operating direct airport-to-Hakata bus was not verified.

Takeo and Ureshino: The shared limousine taxi serves designated points at Takeo-Onsen Station · 武雄温泉駅 (south exit), the Takeo onsen area and Ureshino Onsen · 嬉野温泉. Regular services to either region cost JPY 4,000 per person and take about 60 minutes; the early ANA452 connection costs JPY 4,800. This is different from the JPY 4,000 per vehicle taxi estimate to Saga Station.

The shared service is for air passengers only, allows one large suitcase and generally takes cash. Book online by 16:00 two days before travel, or by phone by 16:00 the day before. ANA451/452 phone bookings also close two days before at 16:00.

Register your actual flight. The vehicle leaves when booked passengers have assembled. Contact the assigned company about delays, canceled flights, changes or canceling your booking. Disaster disruption or replacement flights may not be accommodated; no verified universal cancellation fee is quoted here.

Saga Airport transfers: FAQ

How do I get from Saga Airport to Saga Station?

Take a Saga Station Bus Center-bound bus outside first-floor arrivals. The nonstop service uses stop 2 outside international arrivals and takes about 30 minutes; the semi-express uses stop 1 outside domestic arrivals and takes about 35. The adult fare is JPY 600. From the bus center, walk west over the crossing and past the station’s east building to the JR gates. Immigration, baggage claim, waiting and walking are extra.

Do I need a reservation for the airport bus?

No seat reservation is needed. If a bus is full, an extra service is not guaranteed; you may need the next bus or a taxi. The advance-booking shared limousine taxi is a separate service.

Is Saga Station Bus Center inside the JR station?

It is beside the station, under the elevated railway to the east. The official station-to-bus-center directions give about 100 meters past Ekimachi 1-Chome Saga’s east building and the crossing. Bus-center stop 1 is for the return trip to the airport, not a guaranteed arrival bay.

How do I reach Saga Castle History Museum?

Take the semi-express from airport stop 1 to Hakubutsukan-mae, about 16 minutes and JPY 550, then walk to the museum. The nonstop from stop 2 does not call there. Take it to the bus center and transfer at stop 3 to destination number 6 toward Saga Castle Ruins, or use a taxi.

How do I pay the bus fare?

Pay when getting off with cash or a supported nationwide transit IC card, such as nimoca, Suica or PASMO. Cash passengers take a numbered ticket when boarding and put it with the fare in the exit fare box. IC passengers tap on boarding and exiting. Ordinary credit-card payment onboard was not confirmed; carry cash or a loaded IC card.

Can I bring a large suitcase?

A specific large-bag allowance or luggage compartment was not confirmed. Call Saga City Bus at +81-952-23-3155 with your bag size and count, and ask the driver where to place it. If you cannot handle the bag on steps or keep it clear of the aisle, compare an appropriately sized taxi.

What if my flight is delayed or I miss the last bus?

The last semi-express leaves the airport at 21:45 daily in both the October 1–24, 2026 and October 25, 2026–March 27, 2027 timetables. Flight-linked buses adjust departure for a delayed connecting flight, but do not promise unlimited waiting or a seat for everyone. Go to the stop after leaving arrivals. After service ends, use the official first-floor taxi stand or contact your booked operator.

How do I reach Fukuoka from Saga Airport?

Take the airport bus to Saga Station Bus Center, walk to JR Saga Station and board a Hakata-bound train. The JPY 600 airport-bus fare is separate from JR and any limited-express ticket. Add transfer and train waiting time. A currently operating direct airport-to-Hakata bus was not verified for this guide.

Where can I check same-day transport updates?

Use Saga City Bus notices and airport notices, plus the PDF timetable for your date. For onward trains, check JR Kyushu separately. An old timetable or missing bus-location marker does not establish a cancellation or suspension.
