The roughly 600-meter historic streets are free to walk. The preservation center (八日市・護国町並保存センター) also has free admission. Shopping, houses, museums, and paid guides cost separately, with prices varying by service or venue.
Opening hours
The historic streets are public roads with no specified business hours. The preservation center opens 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. and closes Tuesdays, public holidays, and during the year-end/New Year period. Shops, houses, and museums have individual opening and closing days; check each place you want to visit.

How long should I allow for Uchiko's historic streets?
The tourism association suggests one to two hours for the streets and Uchiko-za surroundings, or about three with a cafe or lunch. The southern entrance is about a 15-minute walk from Uchiko Station; allow station walks and train waiting separately. Uchiko-za's main-building interior is closed for construction.
