The approximately 600 m old streets are free to walk. The preservation centre (八日市・護国町並保存センター) is also free. Shopping, houses, museums and paid guides cost extra, with differing fees.

The old streets are public roads with no separate opening hours listed. The preservation centre opens 09:00–16:30, closing Tuesdays, public holidays and New Year. Shops, houses and museums have individual opening/closure days; consult those you plan to visit.

Street walks and historic buildings

Walk slowly past historic exteriors and shops. To enter houses/museums, check each facility’s opening days and admission. Allow longer than a simple walk if adding food or a café.

How to get to Uchiko’s old streets

Take a train via Uchiko from JR Matsuyama and alight at Uchiko. The southern entrance is about 1 km/15 minutes on foot. Trains to Ozu via Iyo-Nagahama do not pass Uchiko; check stops. Required tickets vary by train class.

How much time should I allow for Uchiko’s old streets?

The tourism association suggests 1–2 hours for streets/Uchiko-za surroundings or about 3 with a café/lunch. The southern entrance is about 15 minutes from the station. Allow station walks both ways and train waits separately. Uchiko-za’s main interior is closed for works.
