Regular admission costs ¥600 for adults, ¥500 for high school and university students, and ¥200 for elementary and junior high school students. On Saturdays, elementary, junior high and high school students who live in Kaminoyama or attend school there can visit free.
Opening hours
Opening hours are 09:00–17:15, with admission until 16:45. The castle closes every Thursday, or the preceding weekday when Thursday is a public holiday, and from December 29 to 31. Seasonal notices may announce temporary Thursday openings, so check your date.

How to get to Kaminoyama Castle · 上山城
Take the JR Ou Main Line from Yamagata Station to Kaminoyama-Onsen. Follow the route on the facility’s access map for the roughly seven-minute walk to the castle. After visiting, retrace your route to the station and take a train toward Yamagata. Adult paper tickets for ordinary trains cost ¥260 each way, or ¥520 return; limited-express and Shinkansen supplements are extra. Check outward and return train times and fares for your actual date.
