Finish all sightseeing by 5 p.m. and walk to the bus stop. If walking between facilities leaves too little time for all five, reduce the visit. Have dinner after returning to the station, then rest at the hotel. Day-one listed inclusions total ¥4,780: combined ticket ¥2,400, route 5 round trip ¥780, and airport → Kitahama ¥1,600.

Leave luggage at the hotel after Kitahama, then go to the Kannawa-bound stop on Beppu Station's west side. Allow walks between facilities and back to the return stop. Reduce sightseeing so you can make the bus departure after closing.
Day 2 · Chinoike and Tatsumaki → Beppu hotel
Use yesterday's combined ticket for Chinoike and Tatsumaki, which you have not yet visited, then return to the same Beppu hotel.

Get a ¥1,100 Kamenoi Bus Mini one-day pass for today and take route 26 from Beppu Station-mae east-side stop 5 to Chinoike Jigoku-mae. Return on the outer-direction route 16 loop toward Beppu Station-mae. Route 26 heads toward Kannawa on the return, so do not assume it is the same direction. Check official weekday/weekend timetables along with entrance walks and eruption waiting.

Use yesterday's combined ticket once at each of the two facilities you have not yet visited. It is not a ticket to revisit the same facility; bathing costs extra. Return to the station for lunch, then rest at your hotel or use a booked bath in the afternoon. You do not go to the airport today. Today's ¥1,100 Mini one-day pass covers the round trip and is included in the total. It is separate from the combined admission ticket; day one's route 5 round trip uses the standard fare.

Depart on route 26 from east-side stop 5 and check route 16's loop direction for the return. Today's ¥1,100 Mini one-day pass is included in the cost. Allow separate time for entrance walks and eruption waiting. Visit only facilities not yet used on yesterday's combined ticket, then return to your Beppu hotel. You do not go to the airport today.
Day 3 · Ropeway → Kitahama → airport
See mountain views by ropeway, return to Beppu, then take the airport bus from Kitahama.

Buy an adult ¥1,800 round-trip ticket at the lower station and ride up. After the visit, descend and take a Beppu Station west-side-bound route 36 from the ropeway stop. The ¥1,000 bus round trip is separate. Check the final descent and a return bus that actually stops here.

Collect luggage and go to Kitahama's airport-bound boarding stop. Choose a walk or transport appropriate to your hotel address and allow separate time and costs. Distinguish the airport-bound boarding point from where you arrived from the airport.

Choose an airport-bound bus in the official timetable for your date that leaves ample time before your airline's check-in deadline. Adult fare is ¥1,600 one way. Allow road delays and airport procedures beyond the scheduled bus arrival. Reduce or omit final-day sightseeing if it would prevent you from catching this bus.
Choose route 36 departures and returns from the station's west side that actually stop at the ropeway. The facility is about a one-minute walk from the stop; allow extra time for tickets, boarding and descent waits. Omit the ropeway if returning to Beppu, collecting hotel luggage and traveling to Kitahama would leave insufficient time for airport procedures.

After arriving in Yufuin, check whether your hotel can hold luggage. Choose lunch between the station and Yunotsubo Street and browse shops in the afternoon. Do not add a return to Beppu with luggage just because you missed yesterday's ropeway. Return around hotel check-in and dinner times. Route 36 costs ¥1,100 one way; this is a change of overnight base, so do not add a ¥2,200 round trip.

Regular route 36 and temporary direct services use different boarding stops at Beppu Station. Choose a service after checking actual Yufuin stops and operating dates. Plan around oversized luggage loading, seats, and the arrival hotel's storage, check-in and shuttle conditions.
Day 3 · Lake Kinrin → Yufuin airport bus
Finish your Lake Kinrin walk, then take an airport-bound bus from the Yufuin Station-mae bus center.

If luggage storage after checkout and your return flight timing allow, walk about 25 minutes from the station toward Yunotsubo Street to Lake Kinrin. Return along the same route, allowing shopping, photos and breaks beyond the 50 minutes of walking. This itinerary does not guarantee morning mist.

Return from Lake Kinrin to the hotel, collect luggage and go to the Yufuin Station-mae bus center. The bus is not coordinated to connect with your flight, so shorten the walk or take an earlier service if airport procedure time is tight. If you need an earlier airport arrival, change where you stay the preceding night.

Which bus should I take from Beppu to Yufuin?
The base itinerary uses route 36 from Beppu Station west-side stop 1. A separate temporary direct service operates October 1, 2026–March 31, 2027, departing Beppu Station-mae east-side stop 5 at 9:30 a.m. for Yufuin; adult fare is ¥1,100. If it is full, check the next regular route 36. The direct-service information is for Beppu → Yufuin, so choose a separate return service for Yufuin → Beppu.

Does the last route 36 back to Beppu stop at the ropeway?
Choose a service shown as stopping at the ropeway in the route 36 timetable. The 6 p.m. departure from Yufuin and opposite-direction 6:20 p.m. departure from Beppu Station skip the ropeway. Check the return stopping service and final ropeway descent separately. On departure day, allow time to reach your accommodation and Kitahama's airport-bound stop.
