Mountains and coast on separate days

Spend three nights at the same lodging near Toyama Station. Visit Murodo on day two and Takaoka/Amaharashi on day three, keeping mountains and coast separate. Murodo's operating season and connections vary; check your date's timetable and ticket sales conditions.

Day 1 · Walk Kansui Park

Follow the canal and waterfront at Kansui Park, north of Toyama Station.

  1. Toyama Station north exit → Kansui Park

Use the official estimate of about nine minutes to walk to the park for a free waterfront stroll. Leave the museum for the final day. If it will be closed then, swap the order: museum on day one and park on the final day.

Day 2 · Via Tateyama and Bijodaira to Murodo

Explore the high-altitude scenery at Murododaira. Travel from Toyama by railway, cable car, and highland bus, then choose your walking area according to weather and on-site restrictions. Coordinate the reserved cable-car departure at Tateyama with the complete return timetable, including the local railway.

  1. Lodging → Dentetsu-Toyama Station → Tateyama Station

Take a Tateyama-bound local railway train from Dentetsu-Toyama, whose platforms are separate from JR Toyama Station. Match your train arrival to the cable-car departure at Tateyama, leaving time for tickets and platform access. The WEB ticket's reserved time is the Tateyama cable-car departure. In busy periods, check the operator's requirement to arrive 30 minutes before departure and collect tickets 15 minutes before. The standard adult ¥10,220 round trip covers railway, cable car, and highland bus from Dentetsu-Toyama through Tateyama and Bijodaira to Murodo. It does not continue to Kurobe Dam or Ogizawa. Special or reserved seating, meals, and lodging are separate.

  4. Murodo terminal → Rooftop exit and Murododaira → terminal

Explore nearby areas according to weather and on-site restrictions, returning to the same terminal in time for your bus. Meals and shopping cost extra. For a shorter walk, stay near the terminal instead of taking mountain trails or circling Mikurigaike Pond.

Frequently asked questions

Can the Gokayama bus pass take me to Amaharashi?

The Gokayama two-day pass is for the World Heritage Bus. It does not cover the JR Himi Line or Toyama–Takaoka Ainokaze railway; rail fares are extra. If you use another JR pass, check that pass's coverage separately.

Do I have to buy the Hokuriku pass for Takaoka and Amaharashi?

No. You can buy regular tickets for each segment. Round-trip rail travel from Toyama to Takaoka and Amaharashi costs ¥1,260, or ¥2,040 with the additional rail journey on the Gokayama visit day. The adult Hokuriku pass costs ¥7,000 for four consecutive days, so there is no need to buy it just for these nearby rail trips.
