Oita Airport to Beppu, Oita and Yufuin

Choose a transportation option based on your accommodation location

There is no railway station at the airport, so you cannot take JR directly. First, you must go to the station by bus or taxi. The times below are the times on board the vehicle or boat. Please set aside time for immigration, baggage pickup, ticketing, waiting, transfer, and walking to your accommodation.

The 600 yen Hover Taxi is not a per-person fare, but a per-vehicle fare, and is only used at certain times. Don't just look at the 35-40 minutes for a hovercraft and calculate the time it takes to get from the airport to Oita Station. It takes about 3 minutes to walk to the airport terminal, 15 to 20 minutes to spare before boarding, and about 10 more minutes to wait for a connection to the city and take a taxi. If there is no connecting flight, you will need to check the regular taxi fare separately.

Prepare your ticket at the arrival lobby and go to the boarding area.

1. After completing immigration, baggage, and customs, exit to the arrival lobby on the first floor. Find the airport bus counter and ticket machine. There are vending machines next to the counter and at the platform, and credit cards are used at the machines at the counter.
2. State your destination and select payment method. Please purchase regular tickets before boarding. You can also pay on board with a nationwide transport IC card (Suica, ICOCA, SUGOCA, nimoca, etc.). 2,000, 5,000, and 10,000 yen bills cannot be exchanged on board, so prepare tickets or change in advance when using cash.
3. Go to bus stop 1 and 2 for Beppu and Oita, and go to bus stop 3 for Yufuin. For numbers 1 and 2, check with the electronic board or staff for B (Beppu Station), K (Oita via Beppu Kitahama), and X (Oita via Expressway). Don't take the bus ahead of you just because the destination is similar.
4. Place your suitcase in the luggage compartment and bring your valuables with you. If you have particularly large or a lot of luggage, check with the driver before boarding. Regular airport buses run on a first-come, first-served basis without reservations, and groups of 10 or more people require prior contact.
5. Get off at the stop closest to your accommodation. Station and seaside drop-off points are categorized below. Enter your booked hotel name and address on the map to check your final route.

Beppu Station accommodation and Kitahama accommodation have different drop-off points.

Accommodation around Beppu Station: Take Line B to the front of the station

If you are around Beppu Station · 別府駅, take the B line bound for Beppu Station from bus stop 1 or 2 at the airport. It takes about 53 minutes and costs 1,600 yen to the airport bus drop-off point in front of the station (next to the east intersection of the station).

After getting off, go towards the hotel address for hotels on the east side of the station, and for hotels on the west side, go through the station to the west exit. Even around the station, the final route is different depending on which exit you take.

Kitahama/Beach Accommodation: K·B Kitahama ④

Beppu Kitahama · 別府北浜 is a separate stop, not Beppu Station. The K route takes about 47 minutes, and the B route takes about 50 minutes, and both cost 1,600 yen. When coming from the airport, use drop off ④, do not confuse it with ride ② back to the airport. Line K goes to Oita via Kitahama and does not stop at Beppu Station.

To get to the station from Kitahama, go west toward the station. It is about 600m from get off ④ to the east side of Beppu Station, and it takes about 10 minutes to walk without luggage. For beach accommodation, don't go to the station first; check the directions to the hotel entrance.

If it rains a lot or you have large luggage, you can also take a taxi from the bus stop.

Kannawa Onsen is one more trip from Beppu Station

Kannawa Onsen · 鉄輪温泉 is not right next to Beppu Station. Get off at Airport Line B and go to bus stop 3 on the west side of the station → Kamenoi Bus 2 → Kannawa (鉄輪).

The current weekday timetable for No. 2 is approximately 26 to 28 minutes, and city bus fares and waiting for the next service are not included in the airport bus. Check the separate timetable for Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

After getting off at Kannawa, enter the ryokan name on the map. The final route is different for the accommodation near the waiting room and the accommodation on the hill. If you find it difficult to move your suitcase, compare the ways to get from Beppu Station's official taxi stand to your accommodation address.

For city buses, do not expect large luggage compartments like airport buses. Check the loading space before boarding.

Go directly to the north of Oita Station by airport bus.

To get to Oita Station · 大分駅, take the X Line (expressway, about 58 minutes) or K Line (via Beppu, about 67 minutes). It costs 1,600 yen and gets off at the “大分駅前” stop on the north side of the station. ① When taking a bus to the airport, please distinguish between the boarding and drop-off points.

The north side of the station is Funai Chuo Exit · 府内中央口. For lodgings in front of the station, enter the hotel name as the destination, and for lodgings south of the station, go through the passageway of the station and exit south. Hovercraft Connection The Hover Taxi arrives south and is therefore different from the bus drop-off location.

To Yufuin, take a direct bus from platform 3.

If you take the Y line bound for Yufuin from bus stop 3 at the airport, it takes about 55 minutes and costs 2,000 yen for adults. Arrival location is Yufuin Station Bus Centre · 由布院駅前バスセンター. JR Yufuin Station · 由布院駅 It does not get off inside the building, but it is about a 1-minute walk from the bus centre to the station.

If your accommodation is near a station, check the direct walking path from the bus centre to the hotel. The direction of Yunotsubo Street · 湯の坪街道 and the ryokan behind the station are different.

Ryokan located away from the station may require a taxi or shuttle service operated by the inn. Don't assume there is a free shuttle, but check with your accommodation about pick-up location, operating times, advance reservations, and late arrival conditions.

Reservations are not required for airport transfers to Yufuin. General passengers board on a first-come, first-served basis. For groups of 10 or more, contact the operator in advance. If you miss the reserved vehicle or separate express bus product, the change/cancellation policy of the relevant reservation office will apply.

Refunds for pre-purchased tickets must be confirmed by the point of sale and ticket type, and there is no automatic refund or guaranteed seat on the next service.

This is a conceptual diagram of the movement route. Dotted lines and arrows are directions of travel between points and are not actual roads, railways, airways or walking routes. Airport, station, and terminal pins are based on facility locations, and airport bus drop-off pins are based on the operator's map. Check the last departure for each destination separately.

Below is the timetable for airport departure directions. Even if the direct route to Beppu Station ends, the route to Kitahama may still remain, and even if the route to Oita remains, this does not mean that you can reach Yufuin. This is based on the general timetable with no separate day restrictions in the operator's table. Check the official table again for temporary changes, flight connections, and travel dates.

Oita Transportation informs you that the Beppu-Oita Airliner will adjust its departure time according to the arrival of your flight. However, this does not mean that connection is guaranteed even in the event of service interruptions or major delays. The Yufuin bus may leave without waiting for a delayed flight, and the hovercraft departs on time even if there is a flight delay.

After leaving the arrival hall, check which bus or hovercraft service you can actually catch at the airport counter.

Can I transfer at Beppu instead of going directly to Yufuin?

You can go to Beppu Station West Platform No. 1 → Kamenoi Bus No. 36 → Yufuin Station Bus Centre. Currently, the last bus in the revised table on March 14, 2026 departs Beppu Station at 18:20 on weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, and arrives at 19:12 on weekdays and 19:11 on weekends and public holidays.

It also takes time to move from the airport bus drop-off point on the east side of the station to the west bus stop.

As a possible connection example, from October 1st to 24th, Airport Line B 16:50 → Beppu Station 17:43, there are 37 minutes left until the 18:20 departure on time. From October 25th to November 30th, you can compare B series 16:25 → 17:18. Transfer fares are separate, and connections may not be made in case of delays.

If you miss the last departure directly to Yufuin, you should not take the last departure No. 36 as an alternative. From October 1st to 24th, airport K 17:25 also arrives at Kitahama at 18:12, so there is not enough travel time until the 18:20 west of the station. After October 25th, airport K 17:35 arrives at Kitahama 18:22, so it is already late. In this case, please inquire about booking a taxi or discuss same-day transportation and check-in alternatives with your accommodation. If you want to transfer to JR at Oita Station, you need to check the departure time and transfer time of the next train. Depending on operating conditions, it may be difficult to travel to Yufuin on the same day.

Hovercraft: include the onward connection to Oita Station

Hovercraft currently operating regularly go from the airport to HOV.OTA Nishi-Oita. HOV.OTA Kunisaki · HOV.OTA Kunisaki · ホーバーターミナルおおいた（国東） is a separate facility about a 3-minute walk from the arrival lobby, HOV.OTA Nishi-Oita · HOV.OTA Nishi-Oita ·ホーバーターミナルおおいた（西大分） is not Oita Station.

1. Leave the arrival lobby and walk to HOV.OTA Kunisaki. You can make online reservations through the app/LINE, and if there are remaining seats, you can also purchase them at the terminal counter.
2. It is 2,000 yen for adults online and 2,500 yen at the counter. Online payment is by credit card. Check with the operator about payment methods such as cash or card at the counter.
3. Arrive 15 to 20 minutes before departure and prepare a QR ticket. Reservations close 20 minutes before departure, and ticket gates close 5 minutes before departure.
4. After boarding for 35 to 40 minutes, get off at Nishi Oita and transfer to a Hover Taxi or regular taxi at the designated time.
5. The Hover Taxi will arrive at Uenonomoriguchi, Uenonomori Exit, and 上nomoriguchi on the south side of Oita Station in about 10 minutes. If you are staying in a northern accommodation, go through the station passageway.

Connecting Hover Taxis cost 600 yen per vehicle and can be shared within the garden. The current official schedule for Nishi Oita departure is 10:55, 12:45, 15:05, 17:35, and 18:25, so it is not the 600 yen taxi that you usually call at any time. The free shuttle bus service expired on November 30, 2025.

The current hover timetable application period is September 19 - October 15, 2026. The last departure from the airport is Friday 17:45 → 18:20, and Monday-Thursday, Saturday-Sunday 19:30 → 20:10. The 19:30 departure does not have a connecting flight on the current Hover Taxi ticket, so you must check for regular taxis separately. After October 16, check the new timetable and do not apply this last departure.

Despite flight delays, the ship departs on time. Reservation changes can be made by cancelling the existing reservation up to 1 hour before departure and rebooking. A fee will be applied to the customer's convenience refund.

Please note that there is no refund fee when the hovercraft operator cancels the sailing. If hovercraft sailings are cancelled due to strong winds, etc., Hover Taxis will not operate in principle, so you will have to take the remaining airport bus or take a taxi.

After the last bus: confirm a taxi quote for your destination

Go to the official taxi rank from the arrival lobby on the 1st floor. There is no need to buy a bus ticket, just show the driver the Japanese name and address of your accommodation. The airport recommends advance reservations for evening use. The reserved vehicle must go to the meeting location indicated by the company, and check the waiting, change, and cancellation conditions in advance in case of delay.

Beppu is the estimated price, and Oita and Yufuin are the fixed prices for the route provided by the airport. Check when making a reservation to see if the same amount applies to your accommodation. There is a separate fee of 300 yen for phone and app dispatch.

Confirm the total amount including vehicle type, late-night application, toll, waiting fee, and payment method with the company, and do not assume that the card is accepted in all vehicles.

Hire car at the first floor and go to the sales office.

Please provide the name of the person making the reservation at the hire car counter in the arrival lobby on the first floor of the domestic flight. Afterwards, we go to the sales office via the company's shuttle and proceed with contract, vehicle inspection, and handover. Don't expect to receive your car right in the lobby. For companies not at the counter, please follow the contact/transfer instructions on the reservation confirmation.

1. Prepare the reservation confirmation, valid driving qualification document in Japan, and payment method required by the company.
2. Counter reception → Pickup → Check insurance, return, and vehicle status at the sales office.
3. Set the navigation to the entrance of the accommodation car park. Distinguish between Oita/Beppu and Yufuin directions and calculate parking and toll fees separately from the rental fee.

The airport list indicates that each company closes at 19:00 or 20:00. If your arrival is late, please contact the reservation office and check the acceptance deadline, change, and cancellation conditions. During typhoons, heavy rain, and winter snow, you must check the actual road regulations and equipment conditions before moving.

Service suspension cannot be determined based solely on rain and strong wind forecasts. If you are arriving late, please use the official pick-up point and inform your accommodation of your expected arrival time. On days when the walk after getting off is long or it is difficult to carry luggage, it is better to check for transportation to the entrance of the accommodation rather than the bus stop.
