Oita Airport to Beppu, Oita and Yufuin

For Beppu Station, take the B route; for seaside Kitahama, compare the K and B routes. The X and K services reach Oita Station, while the Y route serves Yufuin. Stops and last departures differ, so use the timetable for your hotel’s destination.

The hover taxi's JPY 600 is per vehicle, not per person, and available only at scheduled times. The 35–40-minute sailing is not the full journey to Oita Station. Add about three minutes walking to the airport hover terminal, 15–20 minutes before boarding, connection waiting and about ten minutes in the taxi. Without a scheduled connection, ask for an ordinary taxi quote.

From arrivals to the airport bus

  1. Finish immigration, baggage collection and customs, then enter the 1F arrivals lobby. Find the bus counter and ticket machines. Machines are beside the counter and at the stops; the counter-side machines accept credit cards.
  2. Choose your destination and prepare payment. Buy a normal ticket before boarding, or pay onboard with a nationwide-compatible transport IC card such as Suica, ICOCA, SUGOCA or nimoca. The bus cannot exchange JPY 2,000, 5,000 or 10,000 notes; prepare a ticket or small cash beforehand.
  3. Use stops 1–2 for Beppu/Oita, or stop 3 for Yufuin. At 1–2, check the display or staff for B to Beppu Station, K via Kitahama to Oita, or X via the expressway to Oita.
  4. Put suitcases in the luggage hold and keep valuables and fragile items with you. Ask about oversized or multiple bags before boarding. Normal services are first come, first served, without reservations; groups of ten or more should contact the operator in advance.
  5. Get off at the stop for your hotel area, collect your bags and follow directions to its actual entrance.

Beppu Station and Kitahama hotels use different stops

Station hotels: take the B route

For Beppu Station · 別府駅, take the B bus from airport stops 1–2. It reaches the east-side airport-bus drop-off beside the police box in about 53 minutes, at JPY 1,600. Walk towards an east-side hotel, or cross the station for a west-side hotel.

Seaside hotels: Kitahama stop 4

Beppu Kitahama · 別府北浜 is a separate stop. The K route takes about 47 minutes, the B about 50, both at JPY 1,600. Airport arrivals get off at stop 4; airport-bound departures use stop 2. The K continues to Oita and does not stop at Beppu Station.

From stop 4, the station is roughly 600 m west. Allow about ten minutes walking without bags; this is an editorial walking allowance, not a bus timetable. For a seaside hotel, use its entrance as your destination instead of going to the station first. Heavy rain or large bags may make a taxi from the stop more practical.

Kannawa Onsen needs another journey from Beppu Station

Kannawa Onsen · 鉄輪温泉 is not next to the station. Take airport route B to Beppu Station, cross to the west side, then use west-side bay 3 → Kamenoi Bus route 2 → Kannawa (‘鉄輪’).

The current weekday route 2 timetable gives about 26–28 minutes on board. Its fare and waiting time are separate from the airport bus; use the Saturday/Sunday/holiday timetable on those days. Find your ryokan's entrance after getting off: inns near the waiting room and those uphill have different final walks. With difficult luggage, compare a taxi from Beppu Station. City buses do not provide the same underfloor hold as the airport bus.

Airport buses reach the north side of Oita Station

For Oita Station · 大分駅, take X via the expressway, about 58 minutes, or K via Beppu, about 67 minutes. Both cost JPY 1,600 and reach the north-side ‘大分駅前’ drop-off. Airport-bound bay 1 is a different boarding point.

The north exit is Funai Chuo Exit · 府内中央口. Walk to your hotel's address, or cross the station passage for a south-side hotel. The hover taxi arrives on the south side, unlike the airport bus.

Yufuin: take route Y from airport stop 3

The direct Y bus takes about 55 minutes and costs JPY 2,000 for an adult. Get off at Yufuin Station Bus Centre · 由布院駅前バスセンター. It is not inside JR Yufuin Station · 由布院駅; the station is about a one-minute walk away.

Use your hotel's address for the final walk. Yunotsubo Street · 湯の坪街道 and ryokans behind the station are in different directions. An inn farther away may need a taxi or its own shuttle. Confirm the actual pickup point, timetable, reservation and late-arrival policy; do not assume a free shuttle exists.

The airport Y bus is first come, first served, without seat reservations. Groups of ten or more should contact the operator. A separately booked car or other highway-bus product has its own change/cancellation rules. Prepaid ticket refunds depend on the seller and ticket type; neither automatic refunds nor a seat on the next bus is guaranteed.

Last airport departures differ by destination

These are airport-departure times. A later Kitahama bus does not mean a later Beppu Station bus, and a remaining Oita bus does not reach Yufuin. The operator's general table gives no separate weekday restriction; check travel-date changes and flight connections.

Yufuin Y17:25 → 18:2017:35 → 18:30

Oita Kotsu adjusts Beppu/Oita Airliner departures according to aircraft arrival, but this is not a guarantee through major delays or cancellations. The Yufuin bus may not wait because of its vehicle rotation, and hovercraft sail on time despite flight delays. Ask the counter which service you can still board after completing arrivals.

Can you change at Beppu for Yufuin?

The route is Beppu Station west-side bay 1 → Kamenoi Bus 36 → Yufuin Station Bus Centre. The timetable revised on 14 March 2026 ends at 18:20 from Beppu every day, reaching Yufuin at 19:12 weekdays or 19:11 weekends/public holidays. Allow time to cross from the east-side airport-bus drop-off.

One possible planned connection is airport B 16:50 → Beppu 17:43 on 1–24 October, leaving 37 minutes before 18:20 if on time. From 25 October–30 November, compare B 16:25 → 17:18. The second fare is extra; delays can break the connection.

Route 36 is not a reliable rescue after missing the last direct Yufuin bus. On 1–24 October, K 17:25 reaches Kitahama at 18:12, leaving too little time to reach the west-side 18:20 bus. From 25 October, K 17:35 reaches Kitahama at 18:22, already too late. Ask about a booked taxi or discuss travel and check-in alternatives with your ryokan. JR from Oita also needs an actual train and transfer-time check; same-day Yufuin travel may be impossible.

The hovercraft needs an onward connection to Oita Station

HOV.OTA Kunisaki · ホーバーターミナルおおいた(国東) is a separate airport hover terminal about three minutes' walk from arrivals. Boats reach HOV.OTA Nishi-Oita · ホーバーターミナルおおいた(西大分), not Oita Station.

  1. Walk to the airport hover terminal. Book through the app/LINE, or buy at the counter if seats remain.
  2. Adults pay JPY 2,000 online or JPY 2,500 at the counter. Online payment uses a credit card; ask the operator about counter payment methods.
  3. Arrive 15–20 minutes before sailing with your QR ticket. Booking closes 20 minutes before departure and gates close five minutes before.
  4. After 35–40 minutes on board, get off at Nishi-Oita and change to a scheduled hover taxi or an ordinary taxi.
  5. The hover taxi takes about ten minutes to Oita Station's south-side Uenonomori Exit · 上野の森口. Cross the public station passage for north-side hotels.

The hover taxi is JPY 600 per vehicle, with sharing within its capacity. Current Nishi-Oita departures are 10:55, 12:45, 15:05, 17:35 and 18:25; this is not an on-demand JPY 600 taxi. The free shuttle ended on 30 November 2025.

The hovercraft table is valid 19 September–15 October 2026. Last airport sailings are 17:45 → 18:20 Fridays, or 19:30 → 20:10 Monday–Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The 19:30 sailing has no connection in the current hover-taxi table; arrange an ordinary taxi separately. Use the new table from 16 October.

Boats do not wait for delayed flights. To change, cancel and rebook no later than one hour before sailing; customer-requested refunds have a fee. Operator-cancelled sailings have no refund fee. If strong wind cancels the boat, the hover taxi normally also stops; compare remaining airport buses or a taxi.

After the last bus, confirm a taxi to your actual destination

From 1F arrivals, use the official taxi rank and show your hotel's Japanese name and address. The airport recommends booking for evening travel. For a booked car, follow the operator's meeting point and confirm flight-delay waiting, changes and cancellation.

Beppu is an estimate; Oita and Yufuin are the airport's stated fixed-fare routes. Confirm whether your hotel's address qualifies. Telephone/app dispatch has a separately stated JPY 300 charge. Ask for the total including vehicle size, night charges, tolls and waiting, and confirm payment rather than assuming every car accepts cards.

Airport-listed contacts: Kitsuki Kunisaki Godo Taxi, 0978-67-1234 and Oita Daiichi Taxi, 0978-67-0143. Give your flight, arrival time, address, passengers and suitcase count. Also confirm your hotel's late-check-in deadline.

Rental cars: counter first, then the rental office

Give your booking name at the domestic-terminal 1F rental counter. The company's shuttle takes you to its office for the contract, vehicle check and collection. Firms without a counter use the contact/pickup instructions on your confirmation.

  1. Prepare your reservation, driving documents valid in Japan and the operator's required payment method.
  2. Counter → shuttle → rental office; check insurance, return rules and vehicle condition.
  3. Navigate to your hotel's car-park entrance. Beppu/Oita and Yufuin are different directions; budget separately for parking and tolls.

The airport lists closing times of 19:00 or 20:00 depending on the company. If delayed, contact your booked branch about collection cutoffs, changes and cancellation. Check actual road restrictions and suitable equipment for typhoons, heavy rain or winter snow.

Check each service before travelling

Forecast rain or wind does not alone establish a cancellation. Use official pickup points, tell your hotel your expected arrival, and consider transport to its door when the walk or luggage is difficult.

These are official company links, not affiliate offers. Airport buses use first-come boarding; hovercraft bookings and car rentals are separate. A Yufuin sightseeing tour departing from Fukuoka is a different product from an Oita Airport transfer.

Oita Airport transport FAQ

How do I get from Oita Airport to Beppu?

Prepare a ticket in 1F arrivals and use airport stops 1–2. Route B reaches Beppu Station in about 53 minutes; Kitahama takes about 47 minutes on K or 50 on B. Adults pay JPY 1,600 one way. K does not stop at Beppu Station.

Should I get off at Beppu Station or Kitahama?

For station hotels, compare B to Beppu Station. For Kitahama/seaside hotels, compare arrival stop 4 at Kitahama. The station is roughly 600 m away, with an editorial allowance of about ten minutes walking without bags. Use your hotel address for the final route.

How do I get to Oita Station?

Take Airliner X, about 58 minutes, or K via Beppu, about 67 minutes, at JPY 1,600. Get off on the station north side. Hovercraft reach Nishi-Oita instead and need another journey to the station south side.

Is there a direct bus to Yufuin?

Route Y from airport stop 3 takes about 55 minutes to Yufuin Station Bus Centre, at JPY 2,000 for an adult. The bus centre is separate from JR Yufuin Station, about one minute away on foot.

Do I need to reserve the Yufuin airport bus?

Route Y is first come, first served without seat reservations. Groups of ten or more should contact the operator in advance. It may not wait for a delayed flight. A separately booked car or other highway-bus product has different change/cancellation rules.

How do I reach Kannawa Onsen?

Take route B to Beppu Station, cross to the west side and take Kamenoi Bus route 2 from bay 3 to Kannawa. The weekday ride is about 26–28 minutes; its fare and waiting time are separate. Compare a taxi if your ryokan is far from the stop.

Can I bring a large suitcase?

Airport buses have underfloor luggage holds; ask about oversized or multiple bags and keep valuables with you. Hovercraft allow two items per person, each within 30 kg and 200 cm combined dimensions. City buses have different luggage space.

What if my flight delay makes me miss the last bus?

Beppu/Oita Airliner departures may be adjusted for aircraft arrivals, but connections are not guaranteed. Yufuin buses may not wait and hovercraft sail on time. If services have ended, ask at the official taxi rank or contact an airport-listed operator, and arrange late arrival with your hotel.

Can I change at Beppu after missing the direct Yufuin bus?

Route 36 runs from Beppu Station west-side bay 1 to Yufuin, but its current last departure is 18:20 every day. Do not assume it remains an option after the last airport Y bus. Check both journeys and the walk from the east-side arrival stop to the west-side bay.

Where can I check today's transport status?

Use Oita Airport and your airline for flights, Oita Kotsu and Kamenoi Bus for buses, and Hoverdrive for sailings. For driving, check Oita road information; for trains, check JR Kyushu. Rain or wind forecasts alone do not prove a service cancellation.
