Oita Airport to Beppu, Oita and Yufuin
Choose your bus by your hotel’s location: route B stops near Beppu Station, while routes K and B serve seaside Kitahama. Routes X and K continue to Oita Station; route Y goes directly to Yufuin. These routes have different drop-off points and last departures, so check the timetable for your destination—not just the next bus leaving the airport.

Which transportation option fits your hotel?
Oita Airport has no railway station. To connect with JR trains, first take a bus or taxi to a station. The table lists time spent on the vehicle; immigration, baggage claim, ticket purchases, waiting, transfers and the walk to your hotel take additional time.
| Transportation | Destination and drop-off location | Adult one-way fare (JPY) | Approximate ride time | Number of transfers | Reservation availability | Conditions for using large luggage | When recommended |

The connecting hover taxi costs 600 yen per vehicle and runs only at scheduled times. A 35–40-minute crossing is not the entire journey to Oita Station: allow about 3 minutes to walk from the airport to the terminal, arrive 15–20 minutes before sailing, and add connection waiting time and an approximately 10-minute taxi ride. Without a scheduled hover taxi, a regular taxi has a separate fare.
From the arrival lobby to your bus
- After immigration, baggage claim and customs, enter the first-floor arrival lobby. Find the airport bus counter and ticket machines. Machines are beside the counter and near the boarding area; the counter-side machines accept credit cards.
- Buy a ticket for your destination, or prepare a supported nationwide transit IC card such as Suica, ICOCA, SUGOCA or nimoca for onboard payment. The bus cannot change 2,000-, 5,000- or 10,000-yen bills. If paying cash, arrange a ticket or smaller bills before boarding.
- For Beppu and Oita, check bays 1 and 2. Confirm the route on the departure board: B for Beppu Station, K for Oita via Beppu Kitahama, or X for Oita via the expressway. For Yufuin, use route Y at bay 3.
- Ask the driver about placing your suitcase in the underfloor luggage compartment, and keep valuables with you. Check particularly large bags or multiple pieces with the operator in advance. Ordinary airport buses do not require reservations; seats are first come, first served. Groups of 10 or more should contact the operator.
- Get off at the stop matching your hotel’s address. Beppu Station and seaside Kitahama are different stops, and Oita Station’s arrival point differs from the airport-bound boarding point.

Beppu: choose the station or seaside Kitahama
Hotels near Beppu Station: take route B
Route B serves the airport-bus drop-off near Beppu Station · 別府駅, beside the intersection east of the station. Board at airport bay 1 or 2 after confirming the B destination. The ride takes about 53 minutes and costs 1,600 yen.
For an east-side hotel, walk toward its actual entrance from the stop. For a west-side hotel, cross through the station to the west exit. A hotel described as “near Beppu Station” may be on either side.
Kitahama hotels: routes K and B stop at arrival point ④
Beppu Kitahama · 別府北浜 is a separate seaside stop. Route K takes about 47 minutes and route B about 50 minutes; both cost 1,600 yen. Airport arrivals use point ④. Point ② is for buses going back to the airport. Route K continues toward Oita and does not stop at Beppu Station.
From Kitahama arrival point ④, the station’s east side is approximately 600 meters west—about a 10-minute walk without luggage. That is a walking estimate, not a transfer allowance. For a seaside hotel, check its entrance before walking toward the station; it may be in the opposite direction. In heavy rain or with bulky luggage, consider a taxi for the final leg.
Kannawa Onsen requires another ride from Beppu Station
Kannawa Onsen · 鉄輪温泉 is not beside Beppu Station. Take airport route B, get off near the station, cross to its west side, and find bay 3. From there, take Kamenoi Bus route 2 to Kannawa · 鉄輪.
The weekday route 2 timetable gives a ride of approximately 26–28 minutes. The local bus fare and waiting time are separate from the airport-bus journey. Check the Saturday, Sunday or public-holiday timetable when applicable.
Enter your ryokan’s actual address when planning the walk from Kannawa. Inns near the waiting room and those farther uphill need different final routes. A taxi from Beppu Station may be easier with large suitcases. Local buses do not offer the same luggage facilities as airport coaches; check available space before boarding.

To reach Oita Station · 大分駅, take route X via the expressway, about 58 minutes, or route K via Beppu, about 67 minutes. Both cost 1,600 yen. Get off at Oita-ekimae · 大分駅前 on the station’s north side. This arrival point is not the same as airport-bound boarding point ①.
The north exit is Funai Chuo Exit · 府内中央口. Use your hotel’s name and entrance as the walking destination. For a hotel south of the tracks, walk through the station passage to the south side. The scheduled taxi connection from the hovercraft terminal arrives south of the station, unlike the airport bus.
Official Oita Station bus-stop map ↗ · Airport-bus stop to Funai Chuo Exit: walking directions ↗Yufuin: a direct bus from airport bay 3
Route Y leaves bay 3 for Yufuin Station Bus Center · 由布院駅前バスセンター. The ride takes about 55 minutes and costs 2,000 yen for an adult. The bus center is outside JR Yufuin Station · 由布院駅, about a one-minute walk from the station—not inside its building.
For a nearby hotel, plan the walk from the bus center. Yunotsubo Street · 湯の坪通り and inns behind the station lie in different directions. For a ryokan farther away, ask about a taxi or the inn’s pickup service. Confirm the meeting point, hours, reservation requirement and late-arrival policy rather than assuming a free shuttle.
Ordinary airport route Y does not require reservations: seats are first come, first served. Groups of 10 or more should contact the operator. A privately booked vehicle or another highway-bus product has its own change and cancellation rules. For a prepaid airport-bus ticket, ask the seller about that ticket’s refund terms; missing a departure does not guarantee a refund or a seat on the next bus.

Last airport buses: check your destination and date
The table lists departures from the airport, not buses returning there. Kitahama services may continue after the last direct Beppu Station bus. A later bus to Oita does not necessarily provide an onward connection to Yufuin. The listed timetable has no separate weekday restriction for these departures; recheck the dated table and service notices before traveling.

|---|---|---|
| Beppu Station B | 18:50 → 19:43 | 18:50 → 19:43 |

Oita Transportation says Beppu/Oita Airliner departures may be adjusted to flight arrivals. This is not an unlimited waiting guarantee during major delays. The Yufuin bus may leave without waiting because of its operating schedule, and the hovercraft leaves on time despite flight delays.
After leaving the arrival hall, ask the airport counter which departure you can still board.
Can I transfer at Beppu instead of going directly to Yufuin?
Kamenoi Bus route 36 runs from bay 1 west of Beppu Station to Yufuin Station Bus Center. In the timetable effective March 14, 2026, its last departure is 18:20 every day. It reaches Yufuin at 19:12 on weekdays or 19:11 on weekends and public holidays.
It also takes time to move from the airport bus drop-off point on the east side of the station to the west bus stop.
For October 1–24, an example is airport route B at 16:50, arriving near Beppu Station at 17:43. If on time, that leaves 37 minutes until route 36 at 18:20. For October 25–November 30, compare B at 16:25, arriving at 17:18. Walking to the west-side bay and a separate local-bus fare are required. These are timetable comparisons, not guaranteed connections.
Route 36 is not a practical fallback after missing the last direct airport bus to Yufuin. For October 1–24, airport K at 17:25 reaches Kitahama at 18:12—too little time to walk to the west-side bay for 18:20. From October 25, K at 17:35 reaches Kitahama at 18:22, already too late. Ask about a taxi or discuss transportation and check-in alternatives with your inn. A rail transfer at Oita also requires checking the actual onward train and transfer time; reaching Yufuin that night is not guaranteed.
The hovercraft needs an onward connection to Oita Station
The hovercraft links HOV.OTA Kunisaki · ホーバーターミナルおおいた(国東), about a three-minute walk from the airport arrival lobby, with HOV.OTA Nishi-Oita · ホーバーターミナルおおいた(西大分). The city terminal is not Oita Station.
- Walk from the arrival lobby to HOV.OTA Kunisaki. Reserve through the operator’s app or LINE, or buy at the terminal counter if seats remain.
- An adult one-way ticket costs 2,000 yen online or 2,500 yen at the counter. Online payment is by credit card. Confirm counter payment methods with the operator.
- Arrive 15–20 minutes before departure with your QR ticket ready. Reservations close 20 minutes before departure; the gate closes 5 minutes before departure.
- The crossing takes about 35–40 minutes. At Nishi-Oita, use a scheduled hover taxi if its departure fits your sailing, or arrange a regular taxi at the applicable fare.
- The scheduled taxi takes about 10 minutes to Oita Station’s south-side Uenonomori Exit · 上野の森口. For a hotel north of the tracks, walk through the station passage.
The connecting hover taxi costs 600 yen per vehicle, with sharing possible within the vehicle’s capacity. Listed Nishi-Oita departures are 10:55, 12:45, 15:05, 17:35 and 18:25. This is not a 600-yen taxi available on demand. The former free shuttle bus ended on November 30, 2025.
The sailing timetable applies September 19–October 15, 2026. The last airport-side sailing on Fridays is 17:45 → 18:20; on Monday–Thursday, Saturday and Sunday it is 19:30 → 20:10. The current connecting-taxi table has no service for the 19:30 sailing, so check regular taxi availability and fare. From October 16, use the new sailing timetable rather than these last departures.
The hovercraft does not wait for delayed flights. To change a reservation, cancel it and rebook no later than one hour before departure, subject to the operator’s rules and fees. Customer-requested refunds incur a fee; an operator-canceled sailing does not incur the refund fee. Connecting hover taxis generally do not run when the sailing is canceled. Check remaining airport buses or a taxi instead.
The luggage allowance is up to two pieces per passenger, each weighing no more than 30 kg and measuring no more than 200 cm across its three dimensions. Check a connecting taxi’s capacity separately.
If buses have ended, confirm a taxi to your actual hotel
Go to the official taxi rank from the arrival lobby on the 1st floor. There is no need to buy a bus ticket, just show the driver the Japanese name and address of your accommodation. The airport recommends advance reservations for evening use. The reserved vehicle must go to the meeting location indicated by the company, and check the waiting, change, and cancellation conditions in advance in case of delay.
| Destination | Fee information | On-board journey time |
|---|---|---|
| Beppu Station | Approximately 14,000 yen on regular roads | Approximately 40 minutes |
| Oita Station | Regular road flat rate 16,400 yen / Expressway flat rate 20,600 yen + toll fee 1,160 yen | Approximately 65 minutes regular / Approximately 60 minutes express |
| Yufuin Station | Expressway flat rate 18,500 yen + toll 1,020 yen | Approximately 52 minutes |
Beppu is the estimated price, and Oita and Yufuin are the fixed prices for the route provided by the airport. Please check when making a reservation to see if the same amount applies to your accommodation. There is a separate fee of 300 yen for phone and app dispatch.
Confirm the total amount including vehicle type, late-night application, toll, waiting fee, and payment method with the company, and do not assume that the card is accepted in all vehicles.

Taxi fares and reservation companies by airport official destination ↗Rental cars: check in at the counter, then ride to the office
At the rental counter in the first-floor domestic arrival lobby, give the name on your reservation. The company’s shuttle takes you to its office for paperwork, inspection and vehicle pickup; you do not receive a car in the arrival lobby. For an operator without a counter, follow the contact and pickup instructions on your confirmation.
- Prepare the reservation confirmation, valid driving qualification document in Japan, and payment method required by the company.
- Counter check-in → shuttle to the office → confirm insurance, return conditions and the vehicle’s condition → pickup.
- Set the navigation to the entrance of the accommodation parking lot. Distinguish between Oita/Beppu and Yufuin directions and calculate parking and toll fees separately from the rental fee.
The airport directory lists closing times of 19:00 or 20:00 for different operators. A closing time is not a guaranteed last pickup time. Contact your rental company if arrival is delayed, and confirm the handover deadline and change/cancellation terms. During heavy rain, typhoons or winter snow, check actual road restrictions and required vehicle equipment before driving.

On days when the walk after getting off is long or it is difficult to carry luggage, it is better to check for transportation to the entrance of the accommodation rather than the bus stop.

Oita Airport transportation FAQ
How do I get from Oita Airport to Beppu?
At the first-floor arrival lobby, prepare a ticket or supported transit IC card, then confirm the route at bays 1 and 2. Route B reaches the stop near Beppu Station in about 53 minutes. Kitahama takes about 47 minutes on K or 50 minutes on B. The adult one-way fare is 1,600 yen. Route K does not stop at Beppu Station.
Should I get off at Beppu Station or Kitahama?
Choose route B for a hotel near Beppu Station, or Kitahama arrival point ④ for a seaside hotel. Kitahama is about 600 meters from the station’s east side—roughly a 10-minute walk without luggage. Use your hotel’s actual address to choose the stop.
How do I get from Oita Airport to Oita Station?
Take Airliner X via the expressway, about 58 minutes, or K via Beppu, about 67 minutes. Both cost 1,600 yen and arrive north of the station at Oita-ekimae. The hovercraft instead arrives at HOV.OTA Nishi-Oita, with a separate connection needed to the station.
Is there a direct airport bus to Yufuin?
Yes. Route Y leaves bay 3 for Yufuin Station Bus Center. The adult one-way fare is 2,000 yen and the ride takes about 55 minutes. JR Yufuin Station is about a one-minute walk from the bus center.
Do I need a reservation for the Yufuin airport bus?
Ordinary route Y seats are first come, first served; no reservation is required. Groups of 10 or more should contact the operator. This bus may not wait for a delayed flight. A separately booked vehicle or other highway-bus product has its own change and cancellation rules.
How do I reach Kannawa Onsen?
Take airport route B to Beppu Station, cross to the west side and use bay 3 for Kamenoi Bus route 2 to Kannawa. The weekday local-bus ride is about 26–28 minutes. Its fare and waiting time are separate from the airport bus; check the weekend or holiday schedule when applicable.
Can I travel with a large suitcase?
Airport coaches have underfloor luggage storage, but check unusually large or multiple bags with the operator and keep valuables with you. Hovercraft passengers may bring up to two bags, each within 30 kg and 200 cm across its three dimensions. Check taxi capacity and local-bus space separately.
What if a delayed flight makes me miss the last departure?
Beppu/Oita Airliner departures may be adjusted to flight arrivals, but this is not a guarantee in every disruption. The Yufuin bus may leave without waiting, and the hovercraft leaves on time. Ask the airport counter about remaining departures or an official taxi, and tell your hotel if you will arrive late.
Can I reach Yufuin by transferring in Beppu?
Route 36 leaves bay 1 west of Beppu Station for Yufuin. Its last departure in the current timetable is 18:20 every day. Allow time to cross from the airport-bus arrival point east of the station. Do not assume this connection remains possible after missing the last direct airport bus to Yufuin.
Where can I check service disruptions?
Use Oita Airport’s flight information, Oita Transportation and Kamenoi Bus notices, and Hoverdrive’s sailing information. For a rental car, check Oita Prefecture road information; for a rail transfer, check JR Kyushu. Rain or wind forecasts alone do not establish that a service is canceled.
