Beppu Ropeway climbs Mount Tsurumi for mountain views and slow walks near the summit.
The ride from lower Beppu Kogen station to upper Tsurumi Sanjo takes about 10 minutes one way. Return by ropeway after your walk.

Return tickets cost JPY 1,800 for junior high school students and older, JPY 900 for ages four through primary school or JPY 1,700 for ages 70 and older. One-way tickets cost JPY 1,200 for junior high school students and older, including ages 70 and older, or JPY 600 for ages four through primary school. City buses and bathing cost extra.
Opening hours
The first departure is at 09:00. From 15 March–14 November, the last ascent is at 17:00 and last descent at 17:30. From 15 November–14 March, the last ascent is at 16:30 and last descent at 17:00. There are no regular closure days, but bad weather, maintenance or inspections may suspend operation.

How to get to Beppu Ropeway
Take a Yufuin-bound route 36 bus from Beppu Station west-side stand 1 to Beppu Ropeway, then walk about one minute to the facility. Ride from Beppu Kogen lower station to Tsurumi Sanjo upper station. Adult bus fare is JPY 500 one way or JPY 1,000 return; ropeway tickets are separate. Services marked 不 skip the ropeway, so check both directions.

Check last descent and return bus separately
Last ascent and descent vary seasonally. Some route 36 services skip the ropeway stop. Choose a return from its timetable stop markers and descend before it leaves. Ropeway tickets and bus fares are separate.
