Beppu Ropeway climbs Mount Tsurumi for mountain views. Look out over the scenery and enjoy walks near the summit.

The ride from lower Beppu Kogen Station to upper Tsurumi Sanjo Station takes about ten minutes each way. Return downhill by ropeway after walking.

Return fares are 1,800 yen for junior-high students and older, 900 yen for ages four through primary school and 1,700 yen for ages 70+. Singles are 1,200 yen for junior-high students and older, including ages 70+, or 600 yen for ages four through primary school. City buses and bathing are extra.

The first departure is 09:00. From March 15–November 14, the last uphill service is 17:00 and downhill service 17:30. From November 15–March 14, the last uphill service is 16:30 and downhill service 17:00. There are no regular closure days, but weather, maintenance and inspections may suspend service.

After the ropeway, enjoy mountain views and walks near the summit. Add time for mountain walking and rests beyond the ascent and descent.

How to get to Beppu Ropeway

From Beppu Station west stand 1, take Yufuin-bound route 36 to Beppu Ropeway stop, then walk about one minute to the facility. Ride from lower Beppu Kogen Station to upper Tsurumi Sanjo Station. Adult buses cost 500 yen single, 1,000 yen return; ropeway tickets are separate. Services marked 不 do not stop at the ropeway; check both outward and return.

Before you visit

Check the last descent and return bus separately

Last uphill and downhill times vary by season. Some return route 36 buses do not stop at the ropeway. Check stop marks and choose the return service, then descend before it. Ropeway and bus fares are separate.

How long does a ropeway visit take?

The ride takes about ten minutes each way. Allow bus travel, tickets, boarding waits and mountain walks separately. Plan walks around your return bus and the last ropeway descent.

Do all Yufuin-bound route 36 buses stop at the ropeway?

Not every service stops. Check the timetable for ropeway stops on both outward and return buses.
