Admission
Gorge walks and sightseeing are free. Hire boats and parking are separate costs. Boat hire is per boat for 30 minutes and varies by date; check your date's fee on the official booking calendar. Exceeding 30 minutes adds JPY 1,000 per 10 minutes.
Opening hours
Hire boats generally operate 08:30–17:00, with last reception at 16:30. Long queues may bring an earlier cutoff. No single opening time is listed for the gorge paths; check path access and boat operation separately.

Manai Falls between the rock walls
Look down from the paths to Manai Falls dropping between the rock walls and into the gorge. A paid boat lets you see the waterfall from the water. Enjoy the different perspectives from paths and boats.

How to get to Takachiho Gorge
Official tourism guidance lists about 2 hours 15 minutes by car from Miyazaki city or the airport to the gorge. By public transport, take a bus from Nobeoka Station to Takachiho Bus Centre, about 90 minutes. The gorge is a further roughly 8 minutes by car, so arrange separate transport there and back from the bus centre.
Before you visit
Complete parking and reception before your booking
Boat reception is inside car park 1, Oshioi. There is no dedicated car park or parking reservation, and a boat booking does not secure a parking space. Arrive with time for parking queues, reception and walking from parking to reception and the boarding point.

Boats may stop or finish reception early because of safety checks, weather, water levels or bookings. See maintenance closures on the official booking calendar. Open walking sections may also change with weather, water levels or works; follow your date's guidance.

When can you book Takachiho Gorge boats?
Online bookings run from 09:00 fourteen days before use until 09:00 two days before and require advance credit-card payment. Telephone or email bookings and cancellation waiting lists are not accepted. Some dates are reservation-only or closed for maintenance. Check availability and the date-specific fee per boat for 30 minutes on the official calendar.
Does a boat suspension also close the walking paths?
Check walking-path access separately even when boats stop. Follow your date's notices for weather, water levels and works, and visit only open sections.
