Admission
Walking and sightseeing at the gorge are free. Rental boats and parking cost extra. Boat prices are per boat for 30 minutes and vary by date; check your date's price in the official reservation calendar. Overtime costs ¥1,000 per additional 10 minutes beyond 30 minutes.
Opening hours
Rental boats normally operate from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with last reception at 4:30 p.m. Reception may close early if waits are long. There is no single listed opening schedule for the gorge walking path; check path access and boat operations separately.

Manai Falls between the rock walls
From the walking path, look down at the gorge and Manai Falls dropping between the rock walls. A paid boat ride lets you view the waterfall from the water. The path and boats offer views from different positions.

How to get to Takachiho Gorge · 高千穂峡
The official tourism guide estimates about 2 hours 15 minutes by car from Miyazaki city or the airport to the gorge. By public transportation, take a bus from Nobeoka Station to Takachiho Bus Center, about 90 minutes. The gorge is another approximately 8 minutes away by car, so arrange round-trip transportation between the bus center and gorge separately.
Visit tips
Finish parking and reception before your reserved time
Boat reception is in Parking Lot 1, Oshioi. There is no dedicated boat parking or parking reservation service, and a boat booking does not secure a space. Arrive with time for parking queues, reception, and walking from your lot to reception and the boarding area.
Check boat operations and path access separately
Boats may stop running or finish reception early because of safety checks, weather, water levels, or reservation conditions. Check maintenance closures in the official reservation calendar. Weather, water levels, and construction can also change which path sections are open; follow information for your travel date.

When can I reserve a boat at Takachiho Gorge?
Online reservations open at 9:00 a.m. 14 days before use and close at 9:00 a.m. two days before, with credit card prepayment required. Phone or email reservations and cancellation waiting lists are not accepted. Some days require advance reservations, and maintenance closures also occur. Check the official calendar for availability and your date's price per boat for 30 minutes.
If boats are suspended, can I still walk the gorge?
Check path access separately even when boats stop running. Follow your date's notices for weather, water levels, and construction, and explore only open sections.
