Admission

Collection admission is JPY 400 for adults and JPY 260 for university students, with senior high school students and younger free. Groups of 20 or more pay JPY 320 for adults and JPY 200 for university students. Special exhibition fees vary; collection admission is half price if you also visit a special exhibition on the same day.

Opening hours

October–February hours are 10:00–18:30, with gallery entry until 18:00. March–September hours run from 10:00 until 30 minutes after sunset, with gallery entry until sunset.

From the collection to the lakeside

After viewing the exhibition, head outside for a lakeside walk. On rainy days, you can shorten the outdoor walk and spend more time with the artworks indoors.

How to get to Shimane Art Museum

Walk about 15 minutes from JR Matsue Station to the museum. We suggest 60–90 minutes for the exhibition, then a walk back along the same route. If choosing a bus because of rain or difficulty walking, check the route's service and fare separately.

If you plan to wait for sunset

For a lakeside sunset, plan your visit around sunset time and the weather, alongside seasonal museum hours. You may not see the sunset on cloudy days.

Closing days and exhibition dates

The museum closes on Tuesdays and 28 December–1 January. If Tuesday is a public holiday, it opens that day and closes the next. Special exhibition schedules may affect closing days.

Questions about Shimane Art Museum

Can I store large luggage at the Shimane Art Museum?

Lockers beside general reception require a refundable JPY 100 coin. Larger luggage that does not fit can be left at reception. Bring a JPY 100 coin and ask reception if no lockers are free or you need to leave large luggage.
