Admission

Collection admission costs JPY 400 for adults or JPY 260 for university students. Senior high school students and younger enter free. For groups of 20 or more, admission costs JPY 320 for adults or JPY 200 for university students. Special exhibition prices vary; collection admission is half price if seeing it with a special exhibition on the same day.

The museum opens from 10:00 to 18:30 in October–February, with gallery entry until 18:00. In March–September, it opens from 10:00 until 30 minutes after sunset, with gallery entry by sunset.

How to get to Shimane Art Museum

Walk about 15 minutes from JR Matsue Station. Allow a suggested 60–90 minutes for exhibitions, then return along the same path. If using a bus because of rain or difficulty walking, check the chosen route’s fare and timetable separately.

For a lakeside sunset, plan around sunset time and weather, and check the museum’s seasonal opening. Cloudy conditions may prevent a sunset view.

Closed Tuesdays and 28 December–1 January. A Tuesday public holiday means it opens then and closes the next day. Special exhibition schedules can change closing dates.

Questions about Shimane Art Museum

Can you store large bags at Shimane Art Museum?

Lockers beside general reception take a JPY 100 coin, returned after use. Oversized bags can be left at reception. Bring the coin and ask reception if no locker is free or your bag is too large.
