Opening hours

Ordinary hours are 09:00–16:30. Bunshokan is closed on the first and third Mondays of each month, or the following day if Monday is a public holiday, and from 29 December to 3 January. A notice extended opening to 18:30 on 4–14 August 2026 only; those hours do not apply outside that period.

Staircase stained glass and auditorium ceiling

The stair landing’s stained glass features laurel decoration. The auditorium ceiling has restored plaster patterns depicting Yamagata products such as safflowers and cherries. Look up to find these details.

How to get to Bunshokan

Walk about 30 minutes from Yamagata Station to Bunshokan’s front entrance. Alternatively, take an ordinary bus via City Hall and alight at Shiyakusho-mae, about one minute’s walk away.
